@ Storm... The answer is embedded in your statement.

Ganster rap is big business.. THE KEY BEING BIG BUSINESS!

I'm not one to always point the finger, I see your point and I do agree BUT the more we decide to let pawns like Whitlock to determnine whos responsible its not right especially when they unbiasly focus on one portion.

There are very few companies that control media and as far as what coloreds tend to gravitate to CBS (Viacom) and ABC (walt Disney) even fox. these companies are the ones givin the ok on what hits the screen or what is played on the radio. if anythin my issue is the fact that folks will produce this crap at thes companies request soley for monetary gain knowin at some point how poisonous their material is. I mean if the media can make pac look like such a savage (listen to his cd's) Imagine what they can make 50 and Jigga into? I mean I'm tired right now and it's really hard for me to convey my thoughts cause they're so jumbled up but again i feel you but if we don't stop these people from scapegoating us all day we'll end up in a far worst place one people really start believin its hip hop!

I agree 2 cents(#85) but lets look at Hollywood Vs hip hop.... Both I think are PART of the problem.. When you look at what’s shoved in our face everyday you have more of a variety with Hollywood... Sure you have your gangster flicks and violence & horror movies and TV shows but you also have romantic comedies, love stories, period pieces, comedies, dramas..etc.. They use the TV and movie theaters to show it to you...

With hip hop you have your love songs, funny songs, club songs, life stories, and your songs from the hood and many more…The outlets are videos and radio and movies also. hip hop spilled over into Hollywood if you ask me Now be honest and ask yours self which of the 2 smack you in the face with negative images most of the time? Tell me why you think that.. Its easier to turn the channel on a tv and see something that fits you and your kids than it is to turn to a radio station with a urban format that doesn’t promote violence or drug use

I’m all for respecting all of your opinions on this blog but real is real.. I’m not saying HIP HOP IS THE BLAME FOR EVERYTHING.. I say it really starts with parents talking to your kids about what’s real and important in life but truth be told, THE CULTURE DOES AFFECT THE MASSES... It’s very little songs on the radio that doesn’t promote violence, sex, or drug use. For example im 34 and I don’t really like solider boy however I was listening to the lyrics and at first I thought it was a harmless song.. but then I heard the little dude say “IM COCKING ON YA”.. So you mean to tell me saying im gonna shoot you that on the radio is cool? That IS the message that helping us as a people move forward? And that song is marketed to the kids..

Look at the backpackers.. or the Conscious rappers.. or Gangster rappers.. How is it all of them share the same movement they involved in.. It was the form of hip hop they rallied behind along with the way they were living.. but the Gangster rap will always outshine the others because its BIG BUSINESS…SO… when a writer says HIP HOP is to blame how can we just shut our EYES and not see (JUST A LITTLE BIT) that that statement is partially true.. Please explain this to me?

the point is they ARE NOT blaming entertainment! They are focusing on one for of it as you described which is HIp hop and the issue is why all the emphasis and focus soley on Hip hop when plenty other forms of entertainment can be blamed also!

Yall niggas blind because most of you are brainwashed with the HIP HOP CULTURE... Its music / entertainment.. Sure fashion plays a part and slang and a level of coolness but some of you are so brainwashed you really think your life rally around it. I grew up on hip hop and I used to love it but I don’t need 22’s on my whip.. You know how many peeps told me I should put some rims on my car.. like I care about that shit. I don’t think its cool to go to jail or if you did time.. I don’t think it’s cool to watch a freestyle battle and hear two rappers talk about how the gonna murder their opponent. I don’t think it’s cool to talk about how much drugs you sell or use or how many women you knocked off. It’s played on the radio and videos so much that most of you think it’s the way life should be. You buy the fresh whip for status reasons before you buy a house. These are the same people that yell "FREE T.I." or say SMOKE WEED EVERYDAY.. Now there are some positive rappers but how many do you see getting regular play on the radio or video and how many positive rappers go platinum? This is the message going out to kids and adults and that’s why you have so many replies attacking Mr. Whitelock’s opinion. If you telling me ENTERTAINMENT doesn’t influence people, then you out of your damn mind.. I don’t care if it’s Hip-Hop or Hollywood you can clearly see that it’s affecting people. I saw a documentary and there were people in Asia with the baggy pants and the urban gear throwing up gang signs.. I WONDER WHERE THEY GOT THAT FROM? I shake my head at what some of my brothers and sisters become.. Materialistic, gangsters, and brain-dead…. GROW UP!

Hip Hop is the reason Bush invaded & is occupying Iraq not to mention health care crisis or poverty. Is hip hop the reason this dude is trying to eat himself to death? or the reason he doesn't exercise? or the reason he wasn't good enough to make it to the NFL? Hip hop has problems but so does rock & country genres.

@ #6(Mike Hawk)... YOU GOT THAT POINT!!!

To the rest of you guys... We Know what Whitlock is about and we know what fox is about.... DUH!

@ #31(L)... A making a point isn't being right!

@ #50(The Funkadelic...)... Basically you covered it, I wasn't gonna add the speculation though even though sad to say i have the same feeling!

p.s. this is a gauge IMO, they posted something similar about witlock within the last month and people are still not in accordance so the powers that be know they have the green light to continue and do what they have been doin... once we get in accordance then they'll throw some real disaster at us!

I know what you mean 78 but its different when you feel like hip hop is the cause for something and you try to find a way to blame hip hop for something. Three out of the last five articles from whitlock has blamed hiphop in some capcity for whatever issue he is writing about.

I could care less who he fucks, get head from or marry. I could care less about his articles to because I think he has an agenda but lets not act like he is so ashamed and does anything proactive to change culture of our people. Bill cosby, Oprah (and she blames hiphop for a bunch of shit)or shit even Stephen A. Smith has youth program in philly and hes not rich like the two ppl I just named. Like I said I know what you mean and agree with some of it but dont give this guy credit he doesnt deserve.

Or he's ashahed of what his culture has become?

So what if he married a white chick? She might make nice $$$ and give good head and not run her mouth.. so who's the fool? The dude has a career.. Oh but that just means he's keeping the white man happy? Or it could mean he can put his kide through college and buy a house.

Oh, but I'm sure you'd rather stay on the block making moves. Lol.

Well, keep it real homey.
