Snoop is right, when B.I.G. was alive, no one really knew who Jay-Z was and probably still wouldn’t no who Jay-Z was. B.I.G. was the greatest of all time period. No disrespect to 2Pac but Pac wasn’t lyrical so he can’t be the best greatest.

*Funny how a few comments get RealTalk back on his job…

You did fall off but that’s understandable. When you started out you were a niche, but rather than rest on your laurels, you capitalised on it by bring pure heat….

When you were a blog, you were the first with everything hip-hop related… Music, news, links the whole works.

But then you got lazy, taking up bandwidth with filler shit I as well as a others don’t wants to see… e.g. Saturday night vixen, and “exclusive” interviews, which just aren’t very… um, exclusive

Saying “you fell off” is a bit harsh but in truth you are just a victim of your own success.

Stay on the grind and keep bringing that heat

Yall fagots that live out of NY don’t know shit, Jay was in the streets hard with Resonable Doubt, he was a brooklyn star, this was while BIG was alive!! He was making steam and on his come up. When BIG died Jay was still not as big as he is now! It took his commercial break through Vol 2 which came two plus years after BIG died. Fagots!! These out of state fakes don’t even know!!
Snoop mad because he’s not on Jay’s level! If he blew up after Pac died you wouldn’t hear him saying that shit.

So who was Snoop before he met up with Dre? A legend?

I thought Snoop and Jay-z was cool. Why would he say something like that knowing how niggas tske shit and run with it?

TO CLARIFY MY STANCE ON THE MATTER,I WILL GIVE EXAMPLES OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE FALLEN OFF: JA RULE AND MURDER INC,FAT JOE AND TERROR SQUAD,JADAKISS AND D-BLOCK,DAMON DASH AND DAMON DASH,ETC.

RTNY IS STILL FIYAH,SNICTHES.TAKE THAT,TAKE THAT.

NOW,ON TO ANOTHER RIDICULOUS COMMENT I READ:

“So who was Snoop before he met up with Dre? A legend? ”

ACTUALLY,SNOOP HAD MORE BUZZ AND SUCCESS THAN JAY DID ON THE UNDERGROUND SCENE BEFORE GOING COMMERCIAL,AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO REMEMBERS 213?

Snoop hasnt made anything that great since Doggystyle but I will give him credit for the two Dr Dre chonic albums he was the best mc on both of them aswell that is why he makes my top 5.

When B.I.G. was here the only people he had mad respect for was Jay-Z he always knew Jay was gonna blow and he wanted to be apart of it that is why he was featured on Reasonable Doubt and returned the favour on Life After Death. There is no debate The Notorious B.I.G. would of been the greatest mc of all time but when he died Jay-Z has took the title and he deserves it he has done more in hip hop than anybody you care to mention.

“ACTUALLY,SNOOP HAD MORE BUZZ AND SUCCESS THAN JAY DID ON THE UNDERGROUND SCENE BEFORE GOING COMMERCIAL,AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO REMEMBERS 213?”

Jay-z had a underground buzz too that was mainly in New York. Im not saying Snoop is wack or nothing but most people didn’t know who he was until Dre hooked him up wit some beats and taught him how to say “1,2,3, and to the four…”

I guess what im tryna get across is none of these rappers started off right away. Biggie was on the block freestylin then got inrtoduced to Puff. Pac clowned around with the underground and was doing the humpty hump before Death Row came into play.

Biggie and Pac are dead. Let there souls rest. Nobody knows what would have happened because obviously they are not suppose to be alive.

How could Jay have been a regular ass rapper before BIG died when Resonable Doubt is still critically his best album??? get the Fuck outta here!!!!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

It’s the best in YOUR opinion. It wasn’t critically acclaimed?? It’s didn’t even get 5 mics in the source and that was HUGE for rappers back in 1996????

My favorite Jay-Z album is In My Lifetime Volume 1 and my farite Jay-Z song is “Imaginary Player” amongst others but with that one, I liked the angle and approach he was comming from. BUT His BEST album is Blueprint volume 1. But Snoop is right to a certain point. Biggie was a huge success and I don’t thing Jay would have had the courage to step in front of his “bestfriend” so Biggie dying was a misfortunate convience for him. It gave him the platform he needed. After Biggie, and the fact that Brooklyn was JUST coming back on the map after the us, the westcoast had such a good long run with biggie, Jay-Z had that “I’mma keep Brooklyn on the map” platform to work with.

It was an unfortunate event that gave him the PUSH he was looking for to catapult him to the top. Plus Pac was dead. EVEYONE knows, whether he was your favorite rapper or not, he was NOT gonna let Jay shine for SHIT. He would have discredited him at the PRIME of his carrer, instead of at the end of his career like Calvin Klein and other are trying to do to no availe now!!!!!

31.
scorpio wrote on November 17th, 2007 at 12:58 pm

to the rest of the people here’s what girl go-go said and it makes since

think Snoop is saying there’s a difference in the way things are done down south and in NY. Going back to when BIG was alive…he’s saying Jay was a regular rapper (like the west coast guys now who can’t get a fair break) who was able to take BIGs spot when he died…Snoop said that Jay stepped in and took that shyt/spot…because there’s a difference between NY and the west coast in terms of the way the industry (radio, media, etc) responds.

..i agree

It’s very funny for me to read all this posts.

A lot of people seem more angry and concerned than the real concerned people.

Where you spent minutes thinking and typing, Jay-Z maybe spent 5 seconds thinking “I don’t give a f…” and lived his life and did his things.

The only interesting post is the #35 cause I didn’t know about Jay and Biggie in a potential band.

Oh and for information, I’m white and I’m french (yeah yeah I hear you laughing).

48.

How can you idiots say Jay-Z was a rookie in the game. He had been battling and destroying dudes in NY way before Reasonable Doubt. He also had more street cred that Biggie. Why do you young bucks run your mouth about things you read in magazines and act like it is facts. Funny when Jay-Z wrote songs for Dr. Dre Snoop was on his nuts now I guess know he won’t do something with him he becomes a regular rapper. How about this Snoop has been a regular rapper since he went to No Limit. His career has to be considered a disappointment.

LOL

biggie’s death didnt help jay-z blow up. biggie’s death helped puffy blow up.

‘IT’s A Hard Knock Life’ helped Jay-Z blow up. that song would’ve been a HUGE RECOD whether biggie was alive/dead.

like the way they ‘battled’ each other on ‘brooklyn’s finest’ i believe if biggie had stayed alive, when jay blew up w/ the annie record, it would have been interesting to see who would have had the crown.

would biggie have still had it?
would jay have finally taken over?
would dmx have stayed more focused and maybe contest 4 the crown?
would nas have re-emerged and taken the crown that he hadnt had since ‘93 - ‘94?

the same can be said 4 snoop, if pac never died would snoop have taken the west coast over?

i think we all kno that snoop in his prime was lyrically a better rapper then pac but i think pac had more fame then snoop did, so would snoop have been able to outshine pac?

WHO REALLY KNOWS SO STOP ARGUING OVER SUTTIN THAT WE’LL WILL NEVER HAVE AN ANSWER TO….SUGE n LAPD U KNO U KILLED THOSE NIGGAS

Damn you went hard, I can’t agree with the favorites but the timeline and breakdown were on point from how I see it.

@ 50 (ola)

great points the only diffenece is Snoop was kind of a stand alone artist or more tied to the Dre dynasty and established in reference to Pac vs. Big was very established and jay was jus entering the mainstream. Once snoop came wit that Deep cover track he was a star in the media.

Also i’m not sure about the snoop being more lyrical seeing he ain’t really say half as much as pac but there is a distinc difference in what they brought to the table.

Jay-Z could say the same thing about snoop and people wouldn’t find it as hate cause why, jay-z has more money?

Don’t hate on Jay Z cuz he is better than you by any means. It aint no diss to Snoop cuz he is dope on some real but he’s only had maybe 2 good albums. One classic. Jay is just too damn good. And you said that the whole east and west thing was stupid and yet you gonna stir it back up again. What a fool. Ifit wasn’t for Dre you wouldn’t even be where you are right now.

I don’t think Snoop was getting at Jay-Z, Snoop always trys to stay outa that bullshit but it is funny every single rapper has an opinnion on Jay-Z that is why I think he is the goat cus people always speak about his movements and his career it is funny.

Dumb mufucka, Just cuz u talk about it dont mean shit. U’re just givin tellin people yo opinion about different shit.

@ 75

LMAO there’s a difference between a mentor (Dre) and a rapper (Biggie).

Dre found Snoop in the slums and was his mentor. Biggie is a rapper that as we all know died (RIP) and accordin to Snoop Jay-Z wouldn’t be on top like he has been (together with Nas) if it wasn’t for Biggies death. He wasn’t sayin dude was wack or anything, just that Biggie was holdin shit down u feel me. Thats HIS opinion though.

So it’s only when Biggie is dead now Jay Z is overrated. Snoop if you rep the west coast and you feel the west is the best than why can’t you dethrone Jay? What would that mean for Lil Wayne and TI. Cuz they aint better than Jay and I can tell you that much right now.

Snoop a vet in leauge. He had the westcoast on his back from the time Pac died until Game came in. Hyphy movement was big but seems to have died down and that was pretty recent. We got other artist out here, but none with the stature of Snoop. E-40 probably the closest thing in line and he claim strictly the bay.

Anyway if Snoop say some shit, niggas should listen cause its probably gonna be real talk or at least funny if not both lol.

Snoop don’t know anything. He was main stream. Biggie had a few years on Jay to start, and had Big lived, then cats would be running this ish together.

Snoop is one of the OGs on the west but the nigga…the niiiga been doin TRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASH music ever since he started doin music with niggas like Justin Timberlake, Pussy Cat Dolls etc.

This nigga went from Cripin to this. Its cool to grow as an artist but know yo place. The reason he’s still soooo relevant is because of that, adn that these white folks loves his whole style and the way he talk. Snoop is one of my favorite rappers of all time though dont get it twisted.
