everybody is talking about publicity stunts. its called marketing. all the publicity that the name alone brings is amazing. the more people talk, the more interested the people will be in your product. dropping in black history month will make more of a statement…. we all know jesse and al are gonna be out protesting which in turn put an even bigger spotlight on the album

14.
La Cosa Nostra wrote on November 26th, 2007 at 8:40 pm

u know this coming out in black history month can be epic. Lets just hope he can make the records to live up to the hype and remain in the concept of the title.

Live at the BBQ wrote on November 26th, 2007 at 9:51 pm

To me it seems like Nas chose the title Nigger to make a point about the state of hiphop in the wake of the Imus situation. Not to promote his album.

If anyone could pull it off, Nas would be the man to do it. That being said the “What it is” joint was weak, the albums gonna need a lot more heat than that to be considered some “grown man” hiphop on par with Jigga’s American Gangster.

not a bad move…it will help with the promotion process. He hasn’t really put out any singles to get any buzz going with the album.

and plus it looks like Beanie Sigel just slipped in and took the December 11th date. I don’t think it would be good to put out an album with “co-friends”

26.
tuga31 wrote on November 26th, 2007 at 11:08 pm

I been down with nas since live at the barbecue the nigga is the best hands down

it seems that we are lost as a people. we are willing to sell our own soul and our own people just to make a buck that pretty much we dont invest, but buy all kinds of trinkets and act like we haved status.meanwhile white folks are just laughing straight to the back, proving that we are bunch niggers/niggas still.i love my people and i support my people, but to denegrate our ownselves thats beyond anythingwe’ve done in the past.Nas why talk about afrocentricity and be proud of your people, while you sign your name in the dotted line and give your soul to the devil? why do we sell our own people and culture? how come crackas dont?

28.
hustla wrote on November 27th, 2007 at 3:14 am

bmorecoolgirl wrote on November 27th, 2007 at 4:59 am

most controversial topic…i really don’t know what to expect from the album. But Nas always has carried himself well. He strongly represents how most young Blacks feel in America. What exactly is the difference between Richard Pryor naming a comedy album Super Nigger in 1982 and Nas dropping something similar in 2007. It’s all entertainment but most of all enlightment that the word “Nigger” will always be apart of our history weather it portrays a negative subtance or not. It was created with malice now every single race and culture has ran bonkers with the term. Sad but there’s no erasing it.

30.
bmorecoolgirl wrote on November 27th, 2007 at 5:09 am

Richard Pryor-Super Nigger 1982 to Nas- Nigger 2007. Progress?????

31.
T2 wrote on November 27th, 2007 at 5:21 am

Nas hardly had any buzz considering the album title there aint been many songs he has featured on apart from “success” and he aint dropped alot of joints to get us anticipating the album I think that is the main reason he had to push it back cus nobody is botherd about his music it is just the album title.

32.
Jince wrote on November 27th, 2007 at 5:54 am

Nas doesnt need buzz anymore. His name alone is enough to push 400-500k copies…then factor in the marketing and youve got an easy 600k…but who the fuck cares about the sales, i just want another banger like HHID. Nas is in this for the love, not that ringtone money you fools. He’s got enough to cake on for the next 100 years.

33.
T2 wrote on November 27th, 2007 at 6:08 am

@ #28 I dont give a fuck about sales but as a Nas fan that joint that leaked was dissapointing and it is funny how he pushed his album back after seeing the response to that joint.

It is obvious that the album wasnt ready for that deadline in December but February it will be a different story Nas will always sell records but like Jay they expect nothing but the best and I think he will bring that in his February release.

Duece 5000 wrote on November 27th, 2007 at 6:12 am

I hate how nas is exploiting this vile, vicious word to sell records. Why is it named nigger, why not cracker, that would be bold, but he won’t do it cause he wants to SELL RECORDS. Sorry nas supporters he is wrong on this one.

35.
Flippin-s wrote on November 27th, 2007 at 6:12 am

36.
blaze wrote on November 27th, 2007 at 6:22 am

no 29 that joint was a fake nas joint. it was some useless vocals over a random ass beat. nas aint have shit to do wit it

37.
bmorecoolgirl wrote on November 27th, 2007 at 6:24 am

damn real talk i thought yall was erasing them joints every time i try 2 post it it wouldn’t come up. so i kept being thirsty 2 express my opinion. Thanks 4 posting it but *#28 and 29* are the only ones i need. Sorry 4 being hype!

I can imagine the white fan base that Nas has is thinking in regards to the album title LOL!!!

Consumer: Excuse me sir do you have the new Nas album in stock?

Employee: Which one? What’s the name of it?

Consumer: Nigger

Employee: What??

LOL

45.
The King wrote on November 27th, 2007 at 11:55 am

i know hov is the greatest but that scarface the movie line was really not convincing.
scarface the movie came out in like 84, scarface the rapper came out in like what 91, jayz said the 80’s made him so by the time scarface the rapper was out, jayz was already who he was.
my opinion
i dont compare movies to music, if u take scarface the movie and put it on a record and listen to it repeatedly everyday morning noon or night, concentrating and listening deeply it might start to have more of an effect, watching a movie one time then leaving the theatre doesnt have the lasting effect music has.

i really dont agree wit nas album title but i want to hear what HIS reason is, not what everyone else thinks his reason is. when he talks i listen he might change my opinion. but hiphop is art, and art is made to get a reaction, to create a stir, whether it be good or bad, its job is to start sumthing, and he’s doing just that

46.
Champ wrote on November 27th, 2007 at 12:59 pm

I think that Nas is trippin on this one. First hip hop is dead then he wants to name an album over some shit people died for. Its fucked up cuz Im not even black but to embrace that word on black history month is just straight ignorant. Rappers are more fake by the minute. If he wants to get some attention then put out some good music and bring NY back you crying baby. For the record Hip Hop aint never going to be dead as long as there is some real G’z making music. Homie is a great rapper but aint made a great album since stillmatic.

Nas album title, its doing its job. Generating interest. Starting Controversy, co-sign # 39 Juicy. Now lets see if it can translate into album sales. Def Jam has a few big artist, I mean really big artist and they havent spent much money on marketing them. Kanye with the him & 50 thing. Jay with the American Gangsta having the same title as the Movie now Nas with this album title. They getting a lot of free publicity. Shit is genius if you sit back and think about it.

I do not think NaS’ is going to name his upcoming album Nigger. He’s going to rename the title, self-title it, or leave it untitled.
