Damn this must be like some record or some shit..or i have nothing else better to do..#1 three times in one day at different times…
Well Jay-Z has fell off substantially. Ever since he had sauce money stop writing for hime back in 2000 all his shit is watered down it’s terrible. That Blue Magic shit was straight trash…He needs to bring back Kanye which is impossible and bring back Sauce Money and get his shit tight again

I’m pretty much tired of Jay, I can get the “boot” anytime - I haven’t heard nothing that makes me want to hear this cd. Pharrell told me “Don’t waste your time….” By the way the movie is only a 5 out of 10 - 3 out of 5

Hell no i tried Jay-Z. I used to be a fan but this album is getting out of hand. He’s promote this album better than he promote some of def jam artists album.

The nigga is 40 years old why is he still rapping?

Cosign with E$ the movie was a 3 out of 5

Can we stop with all the jay-z hate? damn - this man has single-handedly made history in hip-hop time and time again. I don’t think any of you jay-z haters really fully understand all jay-z has done for all of hip-hop, the artists and the culture. Jay-z was just sitting on David Letterman’s couch - when was the last time your favorite flop rapper was there? Jay-Z was featured on 60 Minutes back when the black album dropped - again, when the last time YOUR fav flop rapper was on 60 Minutes - and for their talent/music, not like Cam’s dumb interview on “Stop Snitching”

Jay-Z is not 40 - he is 37y.o. - please stop hating because he is showing the world that a hip-hop artist can grow and mature and age within the genre - who else buy jay-z can appeal to such various generations with his music? I don’t know any other 37-year-old mainstream hip-hop/pop stars that are still relevant and selling out shows and making great albums.

and to everyone blaming jay-Z for the flops at def jam… first, LA Reid is the HIGHEST position at def jam - above jay. SO - anything jay-z does, LA has to co-sign - and LA has no reason to NOT give the artists on his own label shine when them getting shine would only make him/the label more loot - perhaps the reason why artists like LL CooL J and Method Man are not selling like they used to is because this is NOT 1997, 1998, or 1999 - and maybe people just arent’s interested anymore.

How come Jay-Z managed to sell multiplatinum and stay relevant, even BEFORE his CEO position at Def Jam. Jay-Z is not the reason acts like Meth and LL Cool J etc. are not selling.

STOP THE JAY-Z HATE - if you’re a real fan of hip-hop, you’d understand that JAY-Z has done more for hip-hop than anyone else in the last ten years. Deal with that.

jpesso wrote on November 5th, 2007 at 9:42 am

i have been playing the album (retail copy) since friday….the album is almost classic… i would give it a 4.5/5…same as reasonable doubt…classic is almost impossible in my eyes…5/5 is merely inachievable…like jay says music is perceived differently from one soul to another….

before i go any furhter, i must say jay-z is the greatest rapper to walk this earth (this is not an opinion but a fact, im not a tupac fan (at all, i think hes a racist and i do not like what he stands for) but he is probably the only one that comes close)….biggie is a legend and achieved that statust by puttin out 1 album and a double album….

coming back to my very breif album review, american gangster would have been a classic if :
jay would take off ignorant shit and brooklyn 2.0, and put blue magic and american gangster (the 2 bonus tracks) as official tracks….THIS ALBUM WOULD BE 5/5 (better then reasonable doubt…..no doubt)….

thats it guys….those are my opinions…I can elaborate forever on this but all illl say is this: if you guys base youself on the 3 tracks you heard, remember that this album has 14 tracks and 1 intro…like you momma told you can not judge a book buy its cover…

Now haters do what you do and….bash me…tell everyone on here how dumb I am and how jay is garbage and old and ignorant and irrelevant…..go on do you thang HATERS….

but keep in mind, that everyone out there that loves this music we call HIP HOP, knows that no one is on jay’s level…no one that is alive….no one is on his level when looking at points such as: flow, vocabulary, topics, description with words, methaphores, double meanings, swagger, MATURITY (ie: his prescence on letterman, he does not sound like all the other ignorant fucks: game, fifty, gorrila zoe dj dram ..man the list goes on….im starting to hate hip hop because i cant stand what all these rappers stand for…i cant not find a way to actually teach my kids or make them understand that their intentions are good..they are not…im not saying that rappers are worst then any other kind of entertainer (black/white/yellow/brown but they contribute just as much as any other entertainer in making our little girls dress like tramps and our little boys smoke weed @ 11 years old)

just before I go, I just want to ask ppl on this site, what age are they….I mean im 25 and jay-z is more relevant to me now…then 10 years ago…do you guys say he’s irrelevant because you are yonger and dont really understand the point of view of a mature man ???

i’m 22 and i agree with everything you just said JPESSO - great post - read mines above it.

I don’t get how these ignorant haters can say jay-z is irrelevant and wack… as jay says “do you fools listen to you music or do you just skim through it” ?!?!

I could see Jay-Z teaching these other wack rappers an ENGLISH class about metaphors, double entendres, symbolism, flow, vocabulary etc. He could have Kanye as his Teacher’s Assistant, lol.

NOTE TO 50 CENT: there are more things to rap about in this world than “money” and “sex”

hey sunny..just saw your post above…i didnt see it previously…jay-z fan or not what we are saying is true…wheter u think he has big lips or think he’s a fag wearing b’s ring on letterman, at the end of the day the man has touched subjects such as the katerina disaster and the incompetency of the bush aqdministration, his love for his mother (something any man can understand), has question his own philanthropy gestures, this only a few that came to mind (in less then 3 seconds)…on his latest albums, you will hear him talk about issues such as the socio-economic status of the USA in the 70 and early 80’s (im a proud canadian by the way)…he aboards subjects such as curroption in the nypd, success and fame and how it affected certain relarionships and what mainstream media is doing to your kids….how britney’s, lyndsey’s drug addiction and angelina’s eating disorter is affecting your childs upbriging and molding his/her views and values just as much as him using “muthafucka” as and adjectif to emphasize a sistuation…

the disguised a convo between the “smack” and the fiend into a love song…and this dude is trash ??? ur u guys on smack ??? by the way the song is called “I KNOW”

anyways i got to get back to work but before i go….let me leave you with this ….jay is a an artist…ARTIST (do you know what that means…that means he can push the envelope…he can step out of the box and not get hurt) and a very wealthy one at that…JAY DOES NOT HAVE TO MAKE MUSCI THAT SELLS….JAY MAKES MUSIC THAT IS GOOD AND TIMELESS !!

ps: sunny do u also agree with my comments regarding ignorant shit and brooklyn 2.0 ??? just wondering ??

Sunny wrote on November 5th, 2007 at 11:10 am

Jpesso - I can wee what you’re saying about Ignorant Shit and Brooklyn 2.0 - they arent bad songs, but they arent good either. Although - the whole concept of Ignorant Shit is a great idea for a song - how people shit on jay for his pop/mainstream songs that are singles, but then when he gets intelligent, they get lost and it goes over their heads…

i love when jay touches on that aspect of his work - how he used to dumb it down and get hits - but then when he gets hated on it, he puts out some real introspective shit - and they call it a “flop” bc the IGNORANT average hip-hop fan on the block who doesnt even have a high-school diploma (whether bc they didnt finish or bc they are too young) doesn’t get the intelligent wordplay and symoblism he spits.

Jay-Z is definately (now) grown folks music - not for the teeny boppers - and guess who buys records? YUP - teeny boppers. Jay will always have his core fanbase, which is hip-hop fans our age…21 and above - but the main market doesnt “get” jay-z now a days, and they didnt get the chance to really experience the OLD jay-z when he WAS doing stuff to appeal to that age (bc WE were that young age when he made his more pop stuff)

I guess Jay-Z is just the victim of growing with his music - he grew with his audience, which as a fan, I greatly appreciate - but that means as he gets older and makes smarter music - the mainstream just won’t really get it.

KJH wrote on November 5th, 2007 at 11:16 am

My thoughts on the album is that its ok. He had some good cuts & he had some weak ones too. But 1 track I want really bad from him is Dead Presidents 3. If yall got that track holla at me cuz the snippet was sounding straight.

djyan wrote on November 5th, 2007 at 11:28 am

HELLO EVERYBODY IMA SAY MY PEACE…JAY’S DISAPOINTED ME ON THIS ALBUM, I GOT THE FEELING THAT BCZ OF THE MONEY THOSE ARTIST LOST THE INTEREST IN THE MUIC. DONT GET ME WRONG, THE LYRICS ARE GREEZY, REAL TALK! STILL..TE LYRICS NOT AS HARD AS KINGDIM COME..AND IT’S NOT A DJ FRIENDLY ALBUM, THERE’S MAYBE ONLY 1-2 TRACKS THAT YOU CAN DANCE TOO, SO I WONT REALLY WAISTE MY DOE ON DAT….BT HEY, JAY’S A LEGEND, HES STILL GON SELL BUT WONT EXCEED THE ALBUM BUDGET BUT WHO CARES, NIGGA’S GOOD,HE DONT NEED NO MUSIC 2MAKE MONEY, I GUESS IS JUST ABOUT THE FANS TO HIIM RIGHT NOW, NOT THE DOE.

29.
T2 wrote on November 5th, 2007 at 11:55 am

LOL #24 djyan if you wanna dance soulja boy album is out now go cop that trash instead.

People are not judging the album for what it is they trying to compare it to his old shit and talk about his looks and his age. Concentrate on the album ffs if you don’t like it fair enough but imo I think it is close to a classic and it is what I have wanted to hear from Jay-Z since the Black Album the joints on the album are crazy even the Weezy track.

BX to Jersey wrote on November 5th, 2007 at 3:34 pm

I don’t know what I would do without Jay. So what if he 37 yrs old. He still better than Soulja Boy, TI, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Mims, Fabolous, and most of these hot rappers out. With the exception of TI and Fab, I don’t even care for the rest. They all suck or are overated. Like on some real ya’ll need to stop the hate and just think about it. Lil Wayne aint on the same level as Jay Z. At all. Wayne don’t have a classic album, he don’t have as many hits, he aint the president of no record label, he don’t even have the skill of Jay Z. I don’t care if Wayne is a rookie. That’s enough for you to say that he aint on Jay’s level. Jay is a hip hop icon. Wayne is just a up and coming rapper. No grammy’s, no major awards outside of BET or anything. Name 5 Wayne number one singles. Exactly. No one is fuckin with Hov right now and like I said I don’t know what I would do with out him. They way hip hop is goin, Jay needs to be here for the next 5 years. Like seriously. Jay is gonna prove that age is just a number. And 40 years aint old. Look at Bret Favre, Shaq, and all those athletes over 30. They still domiate and they still relevent. Thing with music is, you never lose your skill like sports. So if Jay can keep it comin like this he needs to be here knocking on 50. I’m just keepin it real.

Oh F@#!in' Pleeze!!! wrote on November 5th, 2007 at 7:08 pm

First of all, anyone that belives this man is 38 y/o eats dicks for dinner every night but that is a WHOLE nother story.

Jay-Z is still a GREAT rapper, one of the best to ever do it as a matter of fact wheather I still like his music or NOT and that is my honest opinion. The way I feel, it’s not that Jay-Z is “38″, it’s more about his recent life experiences have already been talked about TO DEATH and he needs to hang it up because of it.

When you have to use someone elses life, in order comfortably talke about what you USED TO BE in order to sell because the NEW YOU doesn’t sell, it’s time baby, it’s time!!!!! He is no longer the gangster he used to be, everyone knows that and I don’t think he is trying to deny that, but the NEW Jay-Z just doesn’t and I don’t think at any stage EVER WOULD be excepted by the masses?!!!

He was GREAT at telling gangster stories!!! The BEST on the Eastcoast to ever do it really IMO. But he needs to find anothe way to stay relevent. Using someone else, to be able to be the high seller that you used to be is called REACHING!!! And at his age, it’s just plain pathetic and a desperate attempt to stay in people’s mouths.

He isn’t the Jay he used to be and never will be again, and I am PERFECTLY okay with that, but it doesn’t seem like HE is okay with that. He needs to except and move on.
It’s embarracing for me to watch this dude at this point, just like he is embarraced to watch “Fade to Black”.

I am a grown woman over 25 and I have not listened to the radio since BEFORE the No Limit, Master P days. I’m familiar with today’s artists, but I don’t listen to them so I am in NO WAY compairing a great like Jay-Z to them, unlike most of his “fans” do saying shit like “He’s better than Soulja boi” and STUPID ASS REMARKS LIKE THAT. THAT’S OBVIOUS AND GOES WITHOUT SAYING. I ‘m just saying this to let people know it’s not because I like the new hip-hop BETTER than Jay, it’s just that the life he lives now is not built for hip-hop….it’s much bigger and I would enjoy seeing him do BIGGER thangs than fuck around with this JOKE of an industry from an artist perspective.

Just because you are GREAT at something, doesn’t mean that is what you are supposed to be doing. Sometimes being a great means going out on top AND STAYING ON TOP BECAUSE OF IT. But instead, he had to come back and completely compromise that situation.

No hate, just my opinion and I appologies for any typo’s lol.

42.
Oh F@#!in' Pleeze!!! wrote on November 5th, 2007 at 7:12 pm

Oh, and @ #3 from Philly, I’m sorry but that was just hate. Jay has even written for DRE amongst others. If Sauce Money was so GREAT, then why didn’t he and Jazzo come together to take the man down? He gave them ample opportunity to do so?

What’s that you say…..your in the bathroom shootin’ up? Oh, my bad……I leave you alone then.

I HATE ME A HATER!!!!!

43.
Oh F@#!in' Pleeze!!! wrote on November 5th, 2007 at 7:20 pm

@ #38 I respect your opinion and agree with a lot of it (Minus the 50 comment but again that’s your opinion lol).

But what I DO have to point out is 10 years in the game is NOT rookie status and wayne has been doing this for 10 years. I say this only to say…..HE’S STILL SHIT AFTER 10 YEARS and it took 8 WHOLE YEARS to create a decent buz and get MTV to even acknowledge him. And they call him GREAT?

All I have to say to that is A wah a wobbly wobbly drop DROP IT LIKE IT’S HOT LMBAO!!!

Yall can’t deny that wackness right there Wayne fans. And since WHEN were there bloods in the NO HA! HA! HA! HA! There are BEARLY any bloods in LA and now they are in the NO and HARLEM?

WTF did I miss?

@T2 #45… maybe i dont sit in front of the computer all day, thats y i wasnt replying… but anyway… like i said american gangsta is a good cd… i never said it was wack.. what im saying is that its not a classic.. every song is a good song.. but nothing on it reminds me of a classic song by jay-z, for instance.. what songs on his cd are people going to be talkin about in 5yrs? when u think of jay-z classic songs.. u think of shit like, “where im from” of volume 1, my evils on reasonable doubt and a more off that cd, u think of hardnock life, u think of the shit of the nutty professor soundtrack, big pimpin, and i can go on and on.. there is no song on american gangsta that head my head knocking, like yo this shit is off the hook… its a mello cd thats all… but as far as albums this year, i like curtis, ti, and jay-z albums.. thats it.. i dont have a order i put them in.. because none of those albums are classics, and none of them are there best albums.. but yall dickride jay all u want.. he is human, its ok for him not to make a classic cd.. the world is not goin to come to and end
