I immediately thought of Kanye when Mos was talking about artists wanting photo ops and fighting over awards. I’m from Chicago and got love for Ye but that man is a coward. When he made the statement about George Bush the black community was on the edge of our seats waiting for him to push the issue. However, after receiving media backlash, he fell back.
Fast forward to today when asked about the elections he says “I’m not political.” But he sure was when he spoke against George Bush. He’s mute about the Jena 6 situation. On the otherhand, let him not win one of these damn “Best Jumper, Best Style Awards” and he’s ready to boycott and run to every radio station to talk about it.
Kanye doesn’t care about Black people…unless they are giving him an award. Not just him, many celebs…but especially him. I feel like Kanye should listen to this clip and take notes.

Why is it so important for celebs to support this shit? Especially when the black folks involved in this arent all that innocent. The white boy who was so-called beat up could not say who punched him because its was a brawl between two groups of kids,white and black.But look at what happen that lead up to this,the noose,protest at the school about the whites only tree,THE SCHOOL GETTING FIRE BOMBED,the DA coming to the school telling the black students that he would make their lives hells and to let this noose/tree arguement die down,the fight at the gas station with the shot gun,the fight at the party were on black kid was beat up and hit over the head with a beer bottle and assualted by a group of white boys,the DA’s charges against the black students involved in that brawl ONLY.
Now compare that^^^^^ to the black eye that that white boy Justin got were he and his friends were involved into a brawl with.
If you think in your heart that that whole situation with the black students isn’t fucked up,you may need to move to jena,LA and think like those white folks down there think.
LOL when the protester came to town the whites boarded up their houses,stood guard with shot guns,rifles…ect,many of the business’s closed down for the day.Because blacks were coming to loot,burn,shoot,rape and destroy their town.
We wont get into the death threats the family’s have received,the 18yr old kid who was drunk driving by the protester as they left with noose’s hanging from their truck and he also ammitted that he belong to the local klan chapter,the vandalism to the black churchs that has happen since this has been in the news.

I was so impressed that Mos Def came out for the Jena 6 rally, and held true to his word. I didn’t get to see him while I was there, but our bus drove past him. I have photos of him on some of my articles about Jena 6, and I didn’t know Ice Cube was there too (according to 10/8/07 JET magazine). I really feel like this video is the truth. It would’ve been really productive to have more people who already have eyes on them to support a cause like this. Mos hit it on the head with the private jets and so forth.

I think its important to remember that if you wait on someone to lead you…. you’ll either stand still or blindly walk to be led into the wrong direction. The truth is that there is no powerful, rich, influential anyone coming to save face of black peoples issues. So us (everyday people) just have to get out and get involved in our communities and stay involved. It’s sad, but unfortunately its the truth. I agree with Mos Def it’s very shameful to see that after he reached out for support he barely received any. I would love to hear some of the top players in Hip Hop respond but I’m sure mos def comments will go unrecognized by them. I saw someone post about Kanye I think its #10. I agree. That was one of the reasons I didn’t like the Kanye vs 50, good vs evil type hype. Kanye does and says things to assist him with his crutch that his public image is built on. The same as with mostly every other artist. I hear him saying all the right things but where is the action. We can shoot the breeze all day long about how we should be investing, buying homes, not stunting, etc… but yet we still stunt, spend 20g’s on a necklace, are the louis vuitton don, etc… and at the end of the day we will still be in the same place. But he’s conscience right? lol. I just don’t care for that crutch over and over again just like I don’t care for the gangsta crutch over and over again. Anyhow, the point is get out and get involved social injustice is all around us all day everyday. I think Mos Def hit it on the head when he spoke of changing things for his/our children and being willing to fight/die for a cause.
