who cares whos first… but anyway..

Busta’s definitely right on that first point that the labels and the intdustry have Depreciated the value of the music by selling it at .99 cents a pop or 3.99 a pop.

There has to be a higher solution to the problem. I think 2 years ago, in 2005 we were in the beginning stages of what it really is right now. Cause in 2005, everybody didnt have a iPod, everybody wasnt buying songs off iTunes, and sure as hell the labels didnt decide to start selling the songs individually.

I think the Ringtone game, has Consumers FOOOLED. Because you can create your own Ringtones and send them to yourself.

So whoever came up with that ploy, is CLEVER. But anyway… Busta hit the nail on the head. They have depreciated the value of it.

ChrisFromthaDtothaPHX wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 10:25 am

Also 2ndly, I think what Soulja boy has done is EXPOSE the situation even worse. You have a artist that Made a Myspace Profile and YouTubed his own shitttt.. Shit got popular, then it gets all the way to Collipark and BAM.. a record deal.

If that’s not a indication of where the game is going? i dont know what is.

The days of waiting to hear that classic material or even being able to let a Album ‘SOAK’ or ‘SINK IN’ are over.

Pounce wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 10:32 am

Its fucked up for rappers but think about it from a consumer stand point. I know I hated buying a $15.00 album that had like 10 or 12 songs and only 3 or 4 were hot and that includes the fuckin single.

A lot of classic albums only had like 8-10 songs. Illmatic, Resonable Doubt, Some of the old snoop and bone thugs. He brings up a good point about ring tones costing more than the actual songs but if you look at it from a historical standpoint. Lets say a album has 12 to 14 songs and the shit cost you $13 or 15 bucks. Thats a little more than $1 per song so the value per song has not changed. Anyway that was a good interview I fucks with busta, well the old busta.

9.
Henri Whitaker wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 10:46 am

@ The Kid:- Ur white calling a black person a nigga. See that what fucked up everything reight there. Individuals started looking for crossover success now we have white boys from the suburbs calling black people, white people niggas. I think that if you were a real person and not a coward you wouldn’t go under an alias you would say my name is “Tom Seller” from random “12434, Rainey St. Collingdale, Pennsylvania.” But you wont you will stand behind a computer and call someone a “nigger.” You can disguise it chane the spelling or whatever but you are still calling a black person a nigga and you want to be him. Why are you listening to nigger music why are wearing nigger clothes its all because you want to be what you cant. I’m a black man first and anyone who says different is a coward.

10.
The King wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 10:46 am

#4 chris i dont agree wit u
busta was part of the problem, rappers wit they gimmicks and lack luster albums ruined the game, the consumer is whats important so u have to take care of us first.alot of rappers think they should be paid alot more than there worth. busta music never really touched no one. his album werent all great, he stopped luving the music and started loving the money,
#5 pounce said it right, the old busta was the shit. this new gangsta killa busta is wack to me
thank god itunes let us buy these songs and not albums, cuz the rappers were robbing us,
buying a big as bag of doritos and realizing its only half full. they madd cuz they got undercut, sorry u cant sucker us anymore busta, if it wasnt for people buyin his singles people wouldve abandoned him all together cuz i dont know who’s gonna buy his album

Side Note: The Kid you need to go sit down somewhere. You ain’t hear? Internet thugs are real and you will get a cap in your ass calling people nigga…CRACKER ASS MOFO…..lmmfao.

Good clip. Classic Busta. The business definitely isn’t what it used to be and no not everyone is eating. Pretty much when your new to the game the label will give you an advance. But please believe they do have to make their money back. And marketing a sub-par artists with lil buzz or aging star with fading buzz is a a risk that labels are no longer willing to take. Hence why a lot of albums are not getting properly marketed and pushing big numbers. A lot of people are coming out nowadays without a lot of the public knowing. Only one single is being dropped before the album at times even if the single isn’t doing well. The labels now rely on artists banking from live performances to recoup funds and produce “free” buzz. If you look at it live performances are really what is feeding these artists but how long can you really stay on tour? I mean its only fun for how long. Technology and lack of quality music has changed the industry however artists need to realize they need to put out quality music to attract the masses.

15.
Luke From Germany wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 11:03 am

if busta say so u betta believe it cause he been in the game for a while now, anyway i dont fuckin care bout the business anymore cause i cant change what happens,….
what i really wanna know is what song that is in the end,…artist??? song??? anyone???

Broadway wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 11:06 am

That snap shit, rock star shit… ring tone anthems, fucked the game up… I still buy albums, u get them the first week they come out for 10 cash, an album usaully has over 13 songs on them, a nigga like 50 will put more than 16 tracks on an album, the masscre had 21 tracks on one CD, do the math, thats like .75 cents a track on a thirteen track album, that’s good money if you enjoy that artist’s music.

18.
The Kid wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 11:12 am

yo #11..internet thugs???…what??…fuck you and yo mama!!!
You dirty as bitch…white people is the only reason these rappers make money…cause WE by the albums and WE run the labels….so sit your dirty ass down..on you 56K modem internet connection and shut the fuck up…let real men with money of course speak….click clack….dirty ass

19.
MsPink02 wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 11:22 am

smh…..see what happens to little boys that spend all day listening to Eminem, 50cent and Wack rappers. They turn into confused racist Blog thugs what a shame. We’re here discussing something of substance and you have still failed to add anything noteworthy to the conversation. Can you even compose a full sentence? Lemme leave you to your own devices cause your already on a path to destruction.

20.
Henri Whitaker wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 11:26 am

“WE by the albums and WE run the labels…,” The Kid Said.

What money do you have? What label do you run? If you are so intelligent why don’t you enlighten us about yourself. Because …A. You personally don’t own shit. B. Your parents pay for your purchases C. You are a PUSSY!!! I usually just brush all the hate coming from you little placenta’s off but today I feel like mashing out one of you cowards. “The Kid,” yes you are a kid. The word Kid by definition is a child of a goat. A useless unintelligent animal. You sit back and type on your parents computer feeling safe to talk about black people all the while you are an idiot. If you had an ounce of sense you would realized how uneducated you really are. To date the first signs of human life were found on the continent of Africa. In what is now know as Ethiopia. “Lucy,” the oldest skeleton known to man is that of a black african child. What does that mean. We “Black” people were here first. What does that mean we run this shit bitch. We may not run America but we run the world stupid.

21.
Pounce wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 11:34 am

This is a good topic, less racial internet tough talk please. Back to topic though. Busta is speakin the truth but people act like music aint suppose to evolve. Everything evolves. Niggas aint playin super nintendo or the first playstation no more. Its 360’s, PS3 and WII’s.

Its no more tapes, shit its barely CD’s. Its about MP3’s and WMA’s. DJ’s aint digging in crates for records no more, the DJ game is almost all Serrato. Hybrid vehicle has gasonline and electric motors. Cars now adays have hard drives for god sake. Anyway my point is everything has an evolution. Music is no exception.

22.
Juicy wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 11:46 am

wow, the racism on here is killing me, what has happened to my favorite site? damn

Sorry, blacks run the labels too sweetie. know what ur talking about. then, its crazy how a white boy can talk mad racist shit on the computer, cause if he was open like that in real life, homie wouldnt be able to type let alone breathe.

FYI we dont care about how white people are makin rappers rich and shit, what we care about is the quality of the music we love so much, and realtalk, the white folks that know nothing about the craft or the life are killing hip hop.

23.
The Boss wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 11:59 am

number 8 is an asshole

the game has evolved…the rappers should too

24.
The Kid wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 11:59 am

I love hip hop…i just don’t like people who think they know everything. The music has lost creativity, there not artists anymore there business men, basically they brand themselves. So now rap is the stepping stone and they use there fans to sell them other products whether it be shoes, clothes, perfume and so on. Don’t hate them for that, there are only a few that still bring quality music and i love rap to death. I aint no racist and maybe shouldnt of made those remarks. I still don’t like dude cause he talk like he know everything. Again fuck that dude cause he dirty, you smell me…ya you dirty!!..Other than that you can’t ban me from writing what i want to, and you can make fun of my white ass anyday baby!!..click clack..

26.
Latin King wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 12:25 pm

evolution caught up with the dinosaurs. the only thing that survived are the mosquitos. so make like one and evolve.

ringtones became the in thing as mobile phone comapnys and operators became more wealthy and major players in our lives and developed technology to play that stuff and cos we wanted it. the music market needed to change. recording indusrty has been lazy for a long time. it has been greedy for far too long. i happy to see the labels jumping under tables for cover and arent making as much money. yes the artist has suffered and the consumer has won and is still winning. perhaps the ethics might come the fore one day and people buy an entire album from an artist cos they dig them and want to know what they were thinking on each song..not just the singles.

my worry is will there be less incentive to be a musician/artist. lets hope the fly by nights dont see value in it and leave and those that love it and will still do it even if its for free.

DJGX wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 1:25 pm

imma try mah best to buy from real artist from now on and not take the cheap way outta it.
imma keep downloadin that shii tht i listen 2 once and then leave alone like:soulja boy,lil mo,fabolous(2 many r&b joints),jim jones and lets not forget MIKE JONES!!! lmao tht dude is wack as hell.

tarik wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 1:37 pm

i think this is a good educational post 4 younger dudes. So what other steps can they take to get their money since everybody downloads and sales r going down? You never want 2 seem like a dinosaur so u just have to keep with the times…That is what they as record companies have to figure out…Soundscans are decreasing seriously, b. The budgets were crazy then…u can tell by the creative videos…It’s not there anymore…u get a car, a dime bitch or 2, and a nice piece of jewlery 4 an average video. Thats why others hate on this music..it’s simplicity. BUT we see that as something of value and an accomplishment because we come from the projects, etc…Record labels with power are diminishing the art a little bit. We have to counteract it and make ourselves a phenomonon like 50 and Wu-Tang did…They created a demand for a bigger budget than average…..

Aftermath- noun

1. A consequence, especially of a disaster or misfortune: famine as an aftermath of drought.
2. A period of time following a disastrous event: in the aftermath of war.
3. A second growth or crop in the same season, as of grass after mowing.

im guessing number 2…
clowns

45.
MsPink02 wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 3:10 pm

To add to yikes commentary. Aftermath is in fact a great name for a label based on the insanity Dr Dre had to endure with DeathRow he decided to branch off on his own. Which in result gave us (no surprise here) the label suitably named… AFTERMATH.

MaL wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 3:17 pm

#6, I’m not even gonna go in2 da “nigga” segment of your comment. I’m gonna speak on the less ignorant of the 2 ignorant things u said.

If u think these rappers are makin’ anywhere in the millions off an album you are SO misinformed! The only way a rapper or damn near any artist is gonna see 7 figures is if they sell multiplatinum meaning 2 records! Who duz that besides Outkast,Em, Jay, 50, Ye, Luda, & Tip (could include Busta). Erryone else is gettin kibbles. Artist contracts aren’t set up for them 2 win. It’s like a Casino, da house alwayz wins & the house is the LABEL. Thatz why the Diplomats (relatively Cam & Jimmy) see millions b/c they went the indie route and sold (300,000 is rediculous 4 an independent).

I always tell people this, rappers make they dough off SHOWS! 5 to 1 stacks if u got jus ONE hot song out! Boosie get 15, Plies get 20 now (wuz gettin 10 b4 most of any of u niggas knew of him),Sean Paul get 20 & Gucci get 10. So jus imagine what the big dogs get! It’s peanuts compared 2 the upper echelon artist.

Killin one stupid white kid for being nieve doesnt solve no problems, just makes stereotypes and hatred grow. FUCKIN RIDICULOUS blowing shit outta proportion…let people be immature but dont get down on they level.

anyways i think busta rite but he also a whiney ass bitch cuz he got money…tha game changed but shit rappers still makin WAY more than us…i still buy cds..but only if i know the shit worth buyin cuz i been tricked in2 buying some whack shit…i aint wastin ma money no more…and if they cut out limewire n buying single songs n shit…for me idk that it would change much of anything bc i wouldnt be buying any more albums than i do now, ill just have less knowledge of hip hop which sad..but i aint got money to waste yah know? Fact of tha matter is in the end rappers aint loosing money bc of technology, they loosin money bc they aint puttin out quality shit.

49.
Ezee-t wrote on October 4th, 2007 at 4:14 pm

Sorry Busta thats just the natural progression of technology. Since Hip Hop is getting more and more mainstream technology will certainly take advantage of it. One day it’s gonna be impossible to get 500,000 sales on an album no matter how good it is. The problem is theres no regulation on internet file sharing and you can now find almost anything you want on the internet. I got ‘Curtis’ from a file sharing site and only bought the album after having listened to it for a couple of days, I’m probably one of 3 in 20 people who will do so. The good news is that there have been talks of shutting the internet down for a couple of years so as to regulate downloads and give control back to those with the rights to the music.

these rappers keep blaming technlogy for their poor sales when their the ones putting out garbage not worth buying.. most albums only have 2 or 3 tracks worth listening to. so why tha fuk we gonna spend our money and make them rich when they don’t deserve it.. a good album will always sell regardless of technology so if busta’s gonna point fingers, he should point in the mirror.

@ 12 Stat Quo - We Get Higher

Busta is right about the song and shit and his right no one can expect to do 50 numbers when the first come onto the scene nobody would do Eminem debut album numbers aswell. Even though I hated on Chamillionaire Universal much be tripping if they think Chamillionaire is gonna go big on the back of his last album without no promotion look how 50 & Kayne West did big numbers on the back of huge promotion.

Bur for me the big thing for me is nearly everybody is trying to be the same there is a lack of creativity and look how many albums got pushed back this year. Look out how many albums got pushed back 50,Kayne West, Chamillionaire even Eve got pushed back to next year.

2 many ringtone rappers Fat Joe album never sold but his Ringtone was number one that says it all Mims album was wack but he had a hit in This Is why I’m hot , Sean Kingston also hot a big hit in Beautiful Girls but did his album do big numbers ?

The thing is to with the way the game is now adays. You have a lot of rappers happy with selling 200-300k units if they have a hot single or two cause of ring tone money. I heard Lil flip was like one of the first dudes to get ringtone money. He got cut a $400k check for his first single. Thats like a video advance now adays from a record label lol.
