New Book Highlights Lessons Learned From Hip Hop

the_message

Hip-hop culture has given me too much for me not to defend its honor. I’ve spent the last year and a half of my life documenting the power in hip-hop music because it was this aspect of the culture, this unique art form that spoke to me like nothing ever before. As I’ve matured, I’ve realized that we can all learn from the culture that grew from the concrete.

So I’ve collected, extracted, and explored words of wisdom and motivational mantras in my new book, THE MESSAGE: 100 LIFE LESSONS FROM HIP-HOP’S GREATEST SONGS (Thunder’s Mouth/Running Press), which dropped October 25 and is available in bookstores and online. THE MESSAGE is named after the song performed by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (”Don’t push me, cause I’m close to the edge…) which many consider to be the first commercially successful socially conscious rap song and which happens to be celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

Very good idea to look at what lessons can be learned from Hip Hop instead of always focusing on the negative effects. I’m sure we have all learned a lot from Hip Hop, good and bad. What lessons has Hip Hop taught you?

- Never trust a Big Butt & a Smile
- If they Hate, then let them Hate and Watch the Money Pile Up
- When them tops come down, chicks tops come down

Lol, I’m just playing, maybe I will make a more serious post about lessons learned later this week.  If you any questions for the author of the book, Felicia Pride, feel free to post them here.

Hiphop has taught people alot with the messages in the song from

    Eminem – Stan
Immortal Technique – Dance With The Devil
Joe Budden – 3 Sides To The Story

3 of the best story songs In my opinion and songs such Nas Ft AZ – Life’s A Bitch 2 Pac – Dear Mama N.W.A – Fuck The Police The Game Ft Marsha – Start From Scratch they are great songs and have message in them but Hiphop also has alot of neagtive songs. About Bitches,Hoes,Crack etc.

i don’t blame rap artist now n days who bring out album n sell bigger record then hiphop artist, it sad but i don’t blame them, being that there are more people who are more rap fans then hiphop fans, n they are the one who would support rap music then to support hiphop music, n it sad cuz they be the same people who would support rap music n wonder why hiphop ain’t selling or doing good, i blame the wanna be hiphop fans who talk good about hiphop just so they can look good, but don’t mean it but would support rappers, n a wanna be hiphop fan no when it come down to a hiphop artist, they have no choice but to talk good about it just so they don’t look bad, but turn around n be the first to support rapper over a hiphop artist, n i think that is what fuck up hiphop, see i respect real hiphop artist like common’ talib kwali’ n mos def’ cuz they r the one who r the definitions of hiphop, n r hiphop artist who send n spite real messages to the hiphop community……big up to real hiphop niggas who r real fans of hiphop, n respect the message that hiphop artists bring to hiphop….n fuck the fake ones

  10. T Taverniti Says:

hip hop has taught me to not respect my black women because they will fuck a nigga if his money is strong enough.
hip hop has also taught me that niggas are ignorant.
hip hop has also taught me how easily influenced people are.
