IMO DEF JAM WAS ONE OF THE MOST ACTIVE HIP HOP LABELS OVER THE PAST YEAR YOU CAN’T DENY THAT AND AS FOR SALES THE SALES ARE A REFLECTION OF HOW THE INDUSTRY IS NOW NOBODY IS SELLING APART FROM A FEW ARTIST. PEOPLE SINGLE OUT DEF JAM CUS OF JAY-Z BUT NAME A LABEL THAT IS DOING BETTER.

@ 3 & Jay-Z will only let a Def Jam artist get an album out if he doesn’t consider them a threat to him after the Pump It Up Remix when Jay-Z got outshined but Budden. Jay-Z didn’t want Joey putting out an album just look what happened to DMX, Method Man, Redman & even Ll they all were shelved.

@ 7 If you talking about first album then Joe Budden went Gold on his first album that was in 2003 I would consider that pretty good for a new artists. But Jay-Z only a few weeks ago said he does know how to market Joe ? & a couple of weeks later dudes is realsed. You could tell Def Jam wasn’t fully behind him when they tryed to make him bring out some bullshit single called Gangasta Party. But Ludacris had a big following in the south but Def Jam aint fully behinf him neither is Jay-Z, how many remixes from the Def Jam artists has he done proably only Kayne West & Riahhana is Riahaana worth a remix over Budden, DMX,Ludacris, Redman & Method man ?

Good looks on the Beanie Sigel Interview can’t wait for the album even Beanie had a lack of promotion from Def Jam for his last album. If Jay-Z aint supporting his artists why the fuck is he CEO Jay-

I think if other hip hop artist on Def Jam had the fan base that Hov has and a track record of selling over a mill then Def Jam would drop they shit to. Look at Ye for example. Rihanna, Neyo and other R&B artist sold records they first album. R&B fans still buy CD’s so thats why you see a guy like Robin Thicke sell over 2 million records. It just looks easier to drop them compared to hiphop artist, where you gotta have a establish fan base who wanna see your album do well.
