Damn The RIAA Is Ruthless
The recording industry Thursday won the largest judgment so far against consumers who illegally download music over the Internet when a federal jury ordered a 30-year-old Minnesota woman to pay $222,000 for copyright infringement.
After the verdict, Thomas’ attorney, Brian Toder, told The Associated Press: “She was in tears. She’s devastated. This is a girl that lives from paycheck to paycheck, and now all of a sudden she could get a quarter of her paycheck garnished for the rest of her life.”
Damn how is a mother of two making 35k a year going to pay off $220,000? I guess they want to show the world they are not playing games, blogs are next.

FUK the goverment that’s jus another way for them to get more money from a hard working person…it’s SAD
October 6th, 2007 at 11:15 am
Maybe this is not even true. They prob just released some bulls hit to scare people into stop downloading. i bet a few thousand stopped right after they herd this report.
October 6th, 2007 at 4:22 pm
#14…”a hard working person”???? what about the musician…it’s there JOB to make music! Everybody on this site DOWNLOAD but atleast half of the people here do buy music and SUPPORT THE ARTIST. I think it’s a good example cause people take music like its suppose to be FREE, like studio time, recording equiptment, etc. don’t cost! Like the people who pays the light bills, heating/AC bills, property taxes just do it all for FREE…GOOD EXAMPLE by the RIAA
October 6th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
^^^Yeah good way to make an example out of someone. But damn $200,000.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:58 pm
Damn thats extreme, I wonder how much music they caught her wit? Thats our societies problem always tryin to sue and get overcompensated. Saddely too many look at the opportunity to sue like its a d*mn lottery ticket.
This shyt right here has gotta be unconstitutional tho… * Eighth Amendment ~ Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. (If $200,000 isn’t an excessive fine for a few cd’s i dont know what the hell is!)
The music industry itself is kinda at fault… Im not saying downloads dont hurt sales
but muisc needs to get back to its creative roots. To many A&R’s have like a dumb cookie cutter formula they keep tryin to fit new artist into. I dont wanna hear 10 artist doing the same thing. Thats why Jay-Z – D.O.A was so controversial. But he was on point. If everybody using Auto-Tune, it all starts to sound the same. How many times do they expect us to go out and buy stuff that sounds the same.
(Not just picking on auto-tune)
Labels need to be realistic. If u take a gamble on a gimmicky artist realize that it is just that; a gamble… There is a possibility that they may flop…
Quality artist make quality music… Downloaded or Purchased if the songs are hot people will pay to see you perform, which historically is where artist make most of there money anyway.
