Damon Dash Speaks On, Mr.Untouchable, Snitching, Hip Hop & The Media

DSC_0696 Magnolia Pictures and Damon Dash Enterprises collaborated on a new movie, “Mr.Untouchables,” which depicts the life of the infamous Harlem drug dealer, “Nicky Barnes.” Damon Dash discusses, Nicky Barnes, snitching, how American Gangster isn’t an accurate depiction of Frank Lucas, and whether his movie glorifies selling drugs.

Damon Dash states:

That’s the reason I don’t make Hip Hop anymore. Because I could never watch a kid rap about something negative and me knowing that a bunch of kids are going to follow it and be a part of it. The karmic repercussions of that are very severe and it’s just wrong.

    damon dash visionary

  4. Beeyah! Says:

Exactly. What a hypocrite. He’s made millions exploiting hip hop culture and now he has the nerve to criticise it.

  5. DatNigga Says:

  6. atlantabyrdgang Says:

  7. vigoroua Says:

    what a hypocrite………

  8. Mi Mi © Says:

How is Dame gonna hate on American Gangster, he don’t have no credentials in the movie biz to be talkin out…That movie was OUTTA CONTROL, I watched it twice…Denzel is that dude…He made the movie what it was, and they had Cuba Gooding playing Nicky Barnes in it…And it’s not a documentary where all the facts have to be accurate its a MOVIE, BASED on a true story…

Id rather watch AG for a third time with Denzel, Russell & Cuba than Mr. Untouchable with a bunch of unknown actors…I already saw Frank Lucas was the KINGPIN of Harlem and even supplied flashy ass Barnes with sh*t…Seeing the boss of that time is all I neeeded to see…”My man”…

  9. Ja Says:

Maybe his current situation (or lack of one) is karma?

People get really humble and self-righteous when fame/power starts to dwindle down.

How about doing a documentary on Geoffrey Canada (Founder of the Harlem Children’s Zone), instead of continuing to perpetuate an image that contradicts your newfound sense of personal responsiblity.

  10. pova Says:

    You FAKE DAME!!!

  11. Greg Says:

How is this hypocritical? He said “as he’s grown he has come to realize”. A hypocrite is someone that says one thing, but does the opposite. Dude has evloved into an adult, and adult views are different from kids. What kids call fun adults see as irresponsible and juvenile. Just because you grow up don’t mean your a hypocite. You simply grew up and your views change. I would hate to hear an artist talk about bustin guns, gang bangin, and sellin dope at 33 when he talked about that at 21. That shows no growth or development. We can change people we can’t be hood forever especially when you millions of dollars and no longer live there. Change is good!

  12. k Says:

Dame is a hater simply because the Frank Lucas film has a much bigger buzz than his movie; he really couldn’t care less about anything other than making money.

Who is he to say Harlem feels they ar better than everyone else!?! Everyone regardless of where they reside feels that way. Nigga I’m from Trinidad and I feel I’m better!!

Dame Dummy, here’s some food for thought, IT”S A MOVIE, not a documentary, therefore fiction is allowed. We are not going to see the movie because we think it’s 100% real, we are going to see it because it’s 100% entertaining!

Dame’s swag is at a minimum level ever since Jay went Def. During the Roc era he was the loudest most arrogant fool on the earth, droping F-bombs at any and everyone, now he’s concerned about the content of Hip-Hop. Nigga you wack for real, I see the fake in you!

  13. Santo Says:

I respect the man and I don’t think his comment is hypocritical in anyway being as though he doesn’t make music anymore. He’s obviously realized a lot of shit over the last couple of years. Good for him.

  14. Getting Gwap Says:

Dame Dash doesn’t make music anymore because nobody phucks with him,the only reason people phucked with him in the first place is because he was rolling with Jay.

Lame I mean Dame ain’t shyt without Jay.

  15. KingSupreme Says:

Lol, he’s so full of sh*t.

You ain’t in rap because your little stunt w/ camron trying to go at Jay ain’t pay off.

It back-fired. Now you’re ass is stuc kdoing indy films and trying to bash Big Budget movies which will bury your little video.

Karma is right. All that sh*t you was doing, beibg a busy little bee has done slapped you across your face.

    Deal with it.

  16. white bread Says:

fuck damon dash fuck mr. untouchable nicky barnes, ”damon dash” godfather of being a bitch…..”nicky barnes” godfather of being a snitch…fuck them both

  17. Storm90057 Says:

Arrogant … don’t like his movies, his pro keds, his vodka, his business tactics, or his attitude… and im still waiting for him to make another HOV… if he so good, why hasn’t he did that yet… ultimate hustler .. yeah right..

Call me a hater on this one.. but this dude is not real to me.

  18. Phil Laurence (uk all day) Says:

@7 greg. I can see why he is and why he isn’t but he didnt have to say “thats why i dont make hip hop anymore” cos ppl make hip hop that dont talk about sellin drugs perfect example kanye west.

  19. T2 Says:

I respect Dame Dash as a business man but he does sound hypricritical.

  20. Latin King Says:

    WOW! What a fraud!

Now he doesn’t do hiphop cuz its wrong to feed the kids negativity?

But, makes a movie that GLORIFY gangsters and thugs….yeeeeeeea, alrighty then…LOL

He could of just said he doesnt want to do hiphop, period, and left it at that……but his reasoning makes me wanna smack him upside his head…LOL

  21. the king Says:

#9 gettin gwap- i agree wit you on that 4real

but i dont think he a hypocrite. alot of shit changes in 10-15 years in your lifetime. things u might of thought were a must start to look ignorant. we all grow up and look at shit we did and say na i wouldnt do that no more because of whatever reason. he used to do hiphop, and i dont have no problem thinkin shit is negative and stayin away from it, he aint dissin nobody, he chooses to not do it.

u supposed to atleast change sum things about your past, u aint that same person u used to be, with age comes wisdom. and when u become a parent, u playing a completely different ball game plain and simple. so fuck what ya’ll think, he gotta worry bout his children and the direction they go in. if he making the records then he’s a big hypocrite

  22. Bry Says:

    Dame love the kids

  23. On Blast Says:

You really have to take what Dame says about Frank Lucas lightly, Dame has a real issue with Lucas being from the south (NC) and coming up to NY and making very big moves, he “worked” in Harlem but was not a true representative of Harlem culture being that he wasn’t born and raised there and wasn’t flashy like Harlem cats are known for being. There is no way Dame can convince anybody that Lucas was a little man in NY when he had enough clout and money to have the US Military moving his shit (The Cadaver Connection)… lol. Again Dame doesn’t take too kindly to a country boy makin major moves on the blocks he calls home, it seems in his mind takin over blocks out of town is reserved for native New Yorkers only. Tell Dame there’s another guy by the name of Fat Cat Nichols who was originally from the South and made very big moves in Queens, look him up.. lol

    On Blast – 7 City

  24. On Blast Says:

Also Co Sign # 9, very very good post

    On Blast – 7 City

  25. T Taverniti Says:

i swear i can’t stand the new yorker attitude.
to have a conscious thought that new york is the center of the earth is so lame.

but dame is my man on the business shit.
he is a true role model.
getting money without selling his soul.

  26. |bo0gz| Says:

    mr untouchable vs. arm gangsta

  27. huii Says:

  28. top Says:

  29. trayz Says:
