Jay-Z Comments On Kingdom Come
Hov also reflected on the big marketing push that preceded his last album, Kingdom Come which saw him collaborating with everyone from Budweiser to NASCAR. “People talk about the marketing plan as if I spent some money. I’ve been watching this for a year — ‘the marketing plan was $30 million’ — I didn’t pay them, they paid me,” he said. “I didn’t pay Budweiser, I didn’t pay TNT, I didn’t pay HP, they all paid me. Looking back, I guess it was a little extravagant. Then I shut it down, as the president. Shot two videos and walked away from it. I did the right thing.” He also off-handedly suggested some regrets about Kingdom: “Maybe it was too sophisticated. Maybe I fucked up.”
What thoughts do all of you have on Kingdom Come? It had some hot joints, but some shouldn’t have made it to the CD.

October 13th, 2007 at 6:31 pm
idk.. but i thought i was iight
it wasnt his best album
October 13th, 2007 at 6:35 pm
he’s whining that he spent too much promoting an album that flopped. he’s not going to spend as much on AG but what is he going to say when that flops too
October 13th, 2007 at 6:35 pm
thought it was wack….well, maybe not wack, but not dat good
October 13th, 2007 at 6:39 pm
worst cd he ever put out..but still better than all the other shit out there now
October 13th, 2007 at 6:39 pm
Still haven’t heard it. Dont think I will either.
October 13th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
point is to me… the image he went for isn’t believable, his flow wasn’t crazy and the beats were alright.
He’s not a ginuine mature type dude in these eyes. and personally only people with blinders on who only listen to like 5 rappers ever thought he was the image he was sellin before. I did appreciate the initial message and push but after that you saw he sold out black business for personal profit!
So now with the (unofficial soundtrack poppin) he has a way to rhyme that drug talk without being tied to the situations he’s talkin about… he’s a creative dude though I’ll give him points for how he does what he did!
fa shizzle my nizzle!
October 13th, 2007 at 6:57 pm
Kingdom Come was clearly for two different groups:
1) people over 30
2) people hustling in corporate America
I don’t know if people understand that if Corporate America gives you $30MM to make an album (or basically to endorse their brand) you are profiting more than if you sold a couple of million albums. And you get the money up front. So considering Def Jam probably spent $0 marketing the album and sold 1.7M or whatever that’s really good.
And since when did 1.7M become below-par? It’s very difficult to sell albums, let alone going platinum.
I thought Kingdom Come was a good album….I had to listen a few times, but I understand his growth as an artist. His reality is no longer, our reality, but you can’t knock the hustle. It’s hard to be the leader. But if Pac and Big were here it would be easier for Jay, but when you don’t have anyone to compare him to–you can’t.
October 13th, 2007 at 6:58 pm
He didn’t even tour in he US and sold 1.7M.
October 13th, 2007 at 7:00 pm
I personally thought the album was dope. Not his best..not his worst. Different feel. I respect what he was trying to accomplish. Fans in general don’t like the succes story. Look at 50, cats don’t fuck with anymore like they use to. Regardless..at the end of the day it’s still Rocafella 4-ever..Hov 4 Life.
October 13th, 2007 at 7:02 pm
kingdom come was a different form of jay-z
like jordan on the wizards was a different form of jordan.
still great, but not reasonable doubt and not jordan on the bulls, but still great.
a mediocre album from jay-z is still miles ahead of the current musicians efforts.
October 13th, 2007 at 7:08 pm
I cosign #7. Jay is traveling an uncut path. He is da only aging RELEVENT rapper. He himself is still trying to figure out his own legecy.
In my opinion though Kingdom Come could of been better left unmade. It had is moments wit Prelude, Do U Wanna Ride, Minority Report and Beach Chair but da rest was mediocre at best. Hopefully he uses AG to remind da game y he is considered to be elite.
October 13th, 2007 at 7:10 pm
Me imma jay person so when u fan its like the person you supporting can do no harm…But in my perspective it was good…NOT MY FAVE…But it was worth a lil 10 dollars…Idc what anyone says my favorite will always be Reasonable Doubt
October 13th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
It was hov’s worst album but it was a good solid album wit hits like..The Prelude,Dig a hole,Beach Chair, etc..But it was nothin close to the albums he put out before dat..But I got a feelin American Gangster is gonna be better cuz listenin to Roc Boyz and Dead Pres 3 showed me hov tryna come back on his 99 dayz when he had tha game in a choke hol 4real…
October 13th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
@ #7 (Kingdom come) Why’s 30 the new 20… especially at damn near 40? When did it become bad to be older, I remember when I was told I wouldn’t make it to 25 and the party I had at 25 cause I was suppose to be dead or in jail.
And if Pac and Big were here …jigga who? B.i.g probably woulda seen the snake in him if he didn’t already and pac ain’t even see him as an equal… dude addressed the Mobb before he dealt wit jay wit his famous 2 words…F JAY-Z!
Thinking bout it did jay ever really step into that like the rest of the north east? can’t say I remember that…
October 13th, 2007 at 7:17 pm
I THINK KINGDOM COME SHOWED JAYZ GROWTH AS N ARTIST
October 13th, 2007 at 7:17 pm
I’ve been waiting for a long time for Jay to respond to that lunicy that 50 Cent had been putting out there about K.C.; that Jay spent at least 15 mil on his marketing plan. Funny things was, every person who doesn’t think for themselves ate it up like it was fact. Like 1, 50 knows what the hell Jay and Def Jam is spending on his CD and two that any business man smart or dumb would appear in commercials and pay the company for it! lol Anyone with one ounce of sense knows that the budweiser campaing and all the other campaings for K.C. was paid for by that company so as to bring attention to thier product as well. But, know that Jay has said that, all those who can’t think will know and stop repeating that garbage all over the blogs. Now 50 and the haters need to fine another way to hate on K.C. and the living legend that is Hov. Lastly, songs like The Prelude, Oh My God, Lost Ones, Dig a Hole, and Beach Chair one one cd means that it could never be considered wack. Those 4 songs on any other artist’s cd gets them hailed the next great thing!
One
October 13th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
kingdom come was a classic album, so fuck the hater who said it was wack that album sold 2 mill which is pretty good.
October 13th, 2007 at 7:24 pm

WHITE BOY HAMMER N VANNILA ICE WENT DIAMOND SO U TELIN ME THOSE IS CLASSIC ALBUMS 2……………ALBUM SALES DO NOT DETERMINE THE QUALITY OF THE CD HIS FIRST JOINT SOLD THE LEAST N ITS HIS 2ND BEST(BLUEPRINT WAS HIS ONLY CLASSIC N HIS BEST ALBUM)
October 13th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
right now i wanna address people’s wrong OPINIONS first off when will people leave the whole he didn’t live the life he raps about alone any body/every body who actually knows him personally never denied it in fact they clarified it so why are you out siders still yappin?
2nd jay an’t snake no biggie if so how come when voletta wallice (big’d mom) exposed diddy she said jay was/is the only one who was sincere .and i don’t think big’s daughter would be calling jay her favorite rapper if he was a snake you can call jay this and that and use your preconcieved notions about him and big all you want but biggies blood relatives got mad love for and bess belive from jay
and finally about kingdom come it’s an ok album surely not his best but the prelude, beach chair, minority report,do u wanna ride are great songs the rest are not good .i hope this new one can wash the kingdom come out these haterz mouths
oh and if anyway wanna go toe to toe with exposing thier make beleaved theories against my facts say when i pull interviews and tapes up on yall asses it’s whatever
October 13th, 2007 at 7:45 pm
It was a good album…people need to know that jay has evolve so he is not going to rap about the same thing in every album
October 13th, 2007 at 7:49 pm
Kingdom come gave us a glimpse of anotha side of Hov, a more sophisticated side. He’s evolved as an rapper which is gud i guess. But personaly, i dnt wanna hear all that – i prefer the gangsta shit he was on bak in the day – but thats just my opinion and i guess its tru dat u cant rap abt gangsta shit wen ur not livin it no more
October 13th, 2007 at 7:50 pm
@ #7, I’m 18 and I liked KC. I think it was for the mature minded, period.
October 13th, 2007 at 7:52 pm
oh and every body stay saying jay stans but do we so called jay stans say anything to you bitch made niggas that screaming be that weezy the best rapper alive?no,do we get on yall for screaming ggggg-unit?no, do we get mad when yall jump on the next nigga dick cause he dissed jay ?no don’t get mad at us…cus jay could put out a r & b album and have it go plastic and he will still be in the same position he been in don’t get mad at us for rolling with a winner ..all of us fans an’t gon tell u his worst song is hot .some of will but dats when different strokes for different folk plays into effect but for the most part his fans an’t no dummy we argue with facts yall haters argue with opinions
October 13th, 2007 at 7:53 pm
number 18, your dumbs ass must a got shit twisted homie, the album kingdom come had alot of good material on it. and that what made it a good quality album not just the sell, the only reason why i said sell was cuz there were lot of hater, who was dissin the album before it came out and it did so well by selling 2 mill. so if you think i mean that kingdom come was a classic cuz it sold 2 mill, then you must have a funky ass attitude…listen to what im talking about #18 before you diss me, you bitch ass nigga’ kingdom come was a classic album.
October 13th, 2007 at 7:56 pm
white boy i should slap ur girl wit my dick the sell wtf is the sell lol @ this clown thinkin he hard on the net let me catch ur lil punk ass at sam goody coppin curtis ima knock u the fuk out lol fukin loser now watch this lame respond wit some corny shyt
October 13th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
lol… i see through you like cheat tin!
Free MYSTIKAL
@ #20 (I don’t… K.C.?)
So you say he’s still a stuido gangsta (a)
He may not have did him dirty in life but to say he is better than big after his death…suspect… either way though pac (best sellin rapper/mc ever) still woulda bodied him as far as the game goes! (b)
and lastly K.C. was a subpar album… cause if a dude don’t meet his own standards when do we say they’re fallin off?
If you subscribe to what he’s sellin by all means buy in. But i’m not listening to someone glorify somethin they never really been in to, and to see them basically recruit a sh!t load of youth into somethin they would have never done is a crying shame.
“They call shots…” if they call shots they’re the boss!
October 13th, 2007 at 8:28 pm
^^^ *cheap tin
October 13th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
you people are crazy if you think “beach chair” was a hit off Kingdom come! Probably the worst song on there! Why don’t you give it a listen nowadays that album ages well.
October 13th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
when did he EVER say he was better than big..?…exactly and how he lie about what he rap about
do me a favor give me a list of what he ever claimed to have ever done and we can get this shit going
second tell me when he said he was better than big ??
October 13th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
Sorry but I don’t know his lyrics verbatim like that but I know what was said/insinuated. Same as he game in the game 6 figures strong!
Why don’t you tell me what the rest of the country is suppose to think about the man. he sayin all this stuff you say the folks who know him know is untrue, but what about the rest of the world?
rock wit the jigga man though sun, you’re rollin wit the majority for now.
October 13th, 2007 at 9:11 pm
^^^ * came in the game
October 13th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
kingdom come wasnt 4 the ignorant street kids who jus want shoot shoot bang bang, sell coke on da block type album
it was basically made 4 ppl who already have careers, especially in the corporate business world and jus generally smarter ppl.
the album was solid, and he jus said he didnt pay a dime 4 promotion, those companies paid him 4 sponsorship.
i think he paid more attention to the promotion side of the album/ water 4 life tour in africa and had little time 2 really put his all into making the actual album
October 13th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
A lot of people hated on Kingdom come because he was supposed to be retired. But if Jay-z Left the game, Wwho the helll would we have? SOULJA BOY to listen to. Jay-z was just bringing back the Qauilty that that the game was missing. He went from the hustler in Reasonable doubt to the Grown Coporate boss in Kingdom Come. The Album was 90% Shitting on Guys like DIPSET, JIM JONES, CAMRON, DAME DASH, AND people who doubted him from the beggining. I knoew every song on the album, although it wasn’t vintage JAY-Z it still was all good music. People complain that his beats werent like the old ones, and his flow wasnt the old hov. but its 2007 if he rap like the old Jay-z than Why the hell is time moving forward? When american gangster drops… Ill have me the bonus edition.
October 13th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
i don’t why you keep saying “untru ” for. I said every one who ever knew him never denied him doing what he he said he did .
and jay did come into the game that strong that nigga went up to kevin lyes desk with stacks ,he walked up to big l with stack, this nigga was rolling around in lexuses, with 7 to more bottles of krystal, every body and they mommas know jay came in this game with mad cash would you like for me to show you pictures ,vids, interviews the works i would really like to prove my point
the niggas he beefing with from dahaven,to dame,to jaz,to calvin klien,to whoever even varified his actions befor rap, that nigga was caking up befor this rap shit took off every body knows that and if you don’t believe check that nigga out would you like me to help you in your research???
October 13th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
it was a solid album, but i dont think it was better than the black album, and i already heard about 6 tracks off of american gangster, and 5 of them are better than anything that was on kingdom come. so lookin at it that way, i guess u can say kingdom come was kinda wack. not better than the album before it or after it. but beach chair is a classic, he addressed the katrina situation, aired niggas out on the dig a hole joint, talked about personal issues on lost one, so it was more of a statement album. evidently he knew while he was making it that he was making joints more about politics than sellin drugs and fuckin bitches, even tho he touched on both of those topics too. i think niggas just didnt like it cuz it wasnt like albums he had put out before. i can let the whole cd play but i gotta skip the usher joint and the song wit beyonce, i think tracks 9 and 10, cuz those songs were for the ladies, but kinda gay. neither song had that “excuse me miss” feel to them
October 13th, 2007 at 9:34 pm
lol at num 36 tru tru but what other song have you heard off his very new one i only heard 2
October 13th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
the aldum was really different form anything he put out before but different in a good way. You always have rapper saying the smae thing on each album, but jay showed his bussiness on KC. It was a good album
October 13th, 2007 at 10:00 pm
Def jam/ universal is in the HOUSE!
Well there’s nothing to prove cause pics and interviews really don’t prove much. I never moved with the dude and never will but my perception’s always been good.
6 figures in the 80’s ain’t caking (niggas was makin that to stash in weeks).
number’s lie when labels buy albums and know when songs will impact radio
and at the head of the monster is the fact he based his launch on the idea of black business and ownership… jus to sell out!
Jus like I won’t sway you, you and all your friends/tag names/ personalities won’t sway me. Bein in the white man’s pocket ain’t what i’m aspiring to!
F.Y.I Pac/Rakim are the gold standard in my mind.
October 13th, 2007 at 10:13 pm
AT THE END OF THE DAY… KINGDOME COME IS JUST TOO ADVANCED FOR N1GGAS. YOU CANT RHYME ABOUT COORPERATE SHYT AND EXPECT HOOD N1GGAS TO UNDERSTAND. I MEAN HOV SAID IT HIMSELF… “WHAT MORE CAN I SAY” SO HE HAD 2 SWITCH UP ON N1GGAS AND FIND NEW TOPICS THAT 50…FAB..WEEZY..KANYE..TIP etc etc AINT TALKIN BOUT. JAY KNOW HE HAD SOME BULLSH1T TRACKS ON THERE TOO… I MEAN DAMN WE ALL SAID THESE SAME THANGS ABOUT BLUEPRINT 2 AND HE TRIED TO HIT KATS WIT A 2.1 VERISON HAHA…
October 13th, 2007 at 10:20 pm

and I roll with people of color who are doctors, ph.d’s, business people, etc.
October 13th, 2007 at 10:33 pm
Looking back the album wasn’t that bad, but didn’t compare to his classics. Do You Wanna Ride is still my joint though. Everything else…eh
October 13th, 2007 at 10:51 pm
I guess he has a point about the Kingdom Come thing. Mainstream music is a mess these days, and if Jay-Z goes the other way like Talib, Common and everyone else is…im right along with it!
October 13th, 2007 at 11:10 pm
my nig i never said how much he had i said he had mad cash.. to be honest i don’t know what your talking about. but how come every body always questioning his moves. when niggas out here on some wild shit . and my dude i can’t even talk to you .cause your obviously a hater. as is half these niggas on here ,you didn’t even know dude came in the game with rich folk money ,so i can’t check you off something you wasn’t too sure of your self. how about yall haters stop flocking jay’s every move. you claim he a whatever you where saying .but yet you some how stumbled your way in this post….?.. regarless of why you haters seem to be in every post with his name on the headline. i ‘am done talking too u. consider this convo done. i alrady checked your status. ur opinions on him is now irrelevant. case closed /proven
October 13th, 2007 at 11:23 pm
I( think he should have replaced 4 of the tracks on the record…then it could have been really good
October 13th, 2007 at 11:24 pm
lol… yeah kimosabe, if you say so.
get some sleep you were workin hard tonight…lmao!
I wonder how many names you posted under… ;0,
October 13th, 2007 at 11:46 pm
The album was aiight, not his best, but it was aiight
October 14th, 2007 at 12:17 am
i like kingdom come it was a real sophisticated album and it was so funny that my niggaz said he was fallin off wen he was just maturin low life niggaz hate wen anotha nigga matures and aint on da same hype as u anymore id rather jay talk about corporate shit or personal shit then goin backwards talkin about that i had to hustle my back against da wall ashy knuckles in front of da bodega he dont do none of that shit no more at all soo keep it up jay i aint a stan of u i just respect yo grown man…
VITAMIN WATER PEOPLE TRY IT…
October 14th, 2007 at 12:53 am
“id rather jay talk about corporate shit or personal shit then goin backwards talkin about that i had to hustle my back against da wall ashy knuckles”
lmmfao… so how you feel about him movin backwards wit the content of this album JB?
and thats my point in a nut shell… if his talent/power was true why does he have to rap about drugs and a negative perspective all the time. Why wasn’t his second album like juicy, a song about leavin the negativity? A lot of us grew up in the hood and we all weren’t so gassed or scared to jus roll with the neighborhood dealer. And I’ve always been a person on a certain level, respected but never played the corner…
p.s. I never really listened to the album cause it was too little too late. Dude is about his money not about the art of music and what it means to american negroes in particular. AND IT’S MORE BLACK MEN IN COLLEGE THEN JAIL….JOIN THE MASSES!
October 14th, 2007 at 1:56 am
He should of stayed retired, Jay-Z is all about the money ….. They should of choose somebody else to do the album.
October 14th, 2007 at 1:59 am
on the real kingdom seem like it was an album to save 4th quarter.. i understand the game and he plays it well.. he still pres. aint he?? the hype of a new album carried more hype than THE album.. but the truth is that kingdom is still a better album than 92% of the albums that came out THIS year.. BUT it wasnt a great jaz-z album… lets be real.. it was cool n all but it was 2 steps behind the black album. which i dont even concider a classic but ive grown to appreciate it for what it was… nuthin on it really sucks.. so lets be clear, kingdom wasnt a wack album but we all expected more from a comeback album.. at least i thought he was gonna bring it back to reasonable boubt a lil… but i do understand that he has advanced past that point but thats when he was at his greatest… no disrespect but jay is like m. jordan playin for the wizards now… he was the greatest while he was doin it.. but its time to keep it steady and ride it out.. the fresh legs r gone u will never have that 1st step u had when u were 25.. u gotta teach these new dudes how to master there game.. or the game it self is gonna suffer.. of course u gonna have ur herald miners (Lupe Fiasco) and penny hardaways (joe budden) but shit happens, there bark was louder than there bite… from ameture to pro u really gotta be on it.. ur lyrics dont even matter no more, u need to make a whole song, hook, lyrics all dat.. u cant just be spittin some fire lyrics u wrote last week and expect a deal.. its a whole package.. y do i wanna listen to ur shit.. can i relate? or can it draw me to think…. what if that was me??? d’eveils on reasonable doubt was a great song lyricly. it made u think if i was in that position would i shit on my friend like that?? if u dont know what im talkin bout u need to listen to reasonable doubt… “We used to fight for building blocks
Now we fight for blocks with buildings that make a killing
The closest of friends, when we first started,
But grew apart as the money grew, and soon grew black-hearted,
Thinking back when we first learned to use rubbers,
He never learned, so in turn I’m kidnapping his baby’s mother
My hand around her collar, feeding her cheese
She said the taste of dollars was shitty so I fed her fifties
About his whereabouts, I wasn’t convinced,
So I kept feeding her money ’til her shit started to make sense
Who could ever forsee, we used to stay up all night at slumber parties
now I’m trying to rock this bitch to sleep…
All the years we were real close
Now I see his fears through her tears, know she’s wishing we were still
close…
Don’t cry, it is to be
In time, I’ll take away your miseries and make ‘em mine, D’Evils…”
CRAZY!!!!!!!!
Who spittin like dat now??? dats y r.d. is a classic lyricly.. but.. i am likin what he doin on american gang. the content is not as deep, but he makin u pic what he goin thru… “whip it around….. it still comes back hard…” but on jays behalf, there should be comments on k.c…. it is what it is…
October 14th, 2007 at 2:03 am
and if jay or some1 at def read my comments above.. tell em to holla at me… i know music.. and i need a job doin what i do best…
October 14th, 2007 at 2:06 am
^^^^^^^^^^^
lol… they didn’t choose him from what I’ve seen, looks like there’s the official soundtrack and he was allowed to make an album “inspired: by the movie.
October 14th, 2007 at 2:13 am
@53 this aint a soundtrack.. he watched the movie and started reliving real life experiences and wanted to share wit the world.. aint dat what music is?? ur thoughts and ideas set to music for ppl to relate and understand? if u were a song writer and watched a movie and it touched alot emotions u had inside of u and u wanted to get em out.. is it wrong to write songs about it?????????????
October 14th, 2007 at 3:03 am
i was very disappointed from kingdom come, there were only 2 or 3 hot joints on it, but they were bangers… im really lookin forward for american gangster cause hes back on his old shit, JIGGA IS BACK!!!
October 14th, 2007 at 4:11 am
The Kingdom Come was NOT too “sophisticated”. Some of the songs were B material. Jay-Z is an A student he can’t bring home no B’s. Maybe he pushed the album out too soon. You cant name your album “Kingdom Come” and not bring the HEAT.
October 14th, 2007 at 4:17 am

ya’ll failed to realize that that is the whole evolution of jayz. as he grows so does his music. time aint stand still for none of us. so while we were growing up, learning life lessons, realizing that things we used to think were the shit, are kinda stupid nowadays. and now the smart thing to do is this, and that. he always gives us a small window to see what he’s doing and how he’s doing it. if anything he is an inspiration, we should all want our kids to walk thru the doors that he has opened in the corporate world. i’m not calling him god or anything like that but he’s kicking that door wide open right now, making it hard for (white)corporate america to deny him entry.
if u have a problem with a man growing, and then reflecting his growth in his music, thats cool.
but he took a chance wit the one thing that was sacred, his music. other artist stick to the same script, scared that if they change, people will call them wack. he wasnt afraid to give it a try. when he started the whole “button-up shirt” trend, he took a chance, just to see what kinda influence he had on the youth, he said put the jersey down, get a button up shirt. next day niggas on the corner wit button up shirts, thats crazy.
October 14th, 2007 at 4:56 am
and now i hope all this talk of , jayz spends all his money on his promotion, but all the other def jam rappers cant get no promotion is dead.
this is the wave of the future, he’s trying to show the people in the game, enemy and friends how to keep this corporate hiphop strangle hold on the nation. stop being idiots and get yourself this athlete money, let these corporations promote you, stop crying about your label. fuck your label, if u got a following, a real one, corporate america will see that and want to do bizness. and you will get promotion a record label could never give.
if the rappers on defjam are too plain, too gangsta, too much of a liability to spend millions on, thats nobody’s fault but their own, its their destiny they should make the most of it.
“this is much more than rap, this black entrepanuer, clothing, movies and build, i’m tryin to conquer it all”
i cant understand why anyone would have a problem wit this nigga coming from the projects trying to become the biggest african american mogul in the country. music opening doors for this dude. and with the music comes the money, then the following, then corporate america, its not to long before u start to gain political influence, cuz all politics cares about is that guap and the votes u can bring them.
he asked ya’ll a long time ago, can i live?
October 14th, 2007 at 5:10 am
kingdom come was a dope album
prob wont be appreciated for years to come
and trouble is one of muh favorite jay songs
October 14th, 2007 at 5:11 am
I thought the album was solid, I understood the progression of the album and he had some outstanding cuts on it like Trouble, Do U Wanna Ride. I actually though Hollywood was a well put together song, just suprising to hear something like that coming from jay. There were some really weak joints though that really messed up the album: Mama I Made It, which I feel like he already nailed that topic in Blueprint and Dec 4th better, I thought Anything was weak and Show Me What U Got was very weak and I hated the video.
I agree with what someone said above that the album was just not finished and put out too early. So overall the album just had some incredibly WEAK moments, but had some shining, some of his best moments too

Still compared to that other shit that came out in ‘06, it wasnt all that bad.
October 14th, 2007 at 5:39 am
Kingdom Come was a classic Beach Chair, do you wanna ride, lost ones, 30 something, prelude etc are all good tracks.
Jay has single handedly maintained his position as the greatest. I respect Pac & BIG but they dead and Jay took advantage of it. LOL
October 14th, 2007 at 5:58 am
I thought the album was very good…4 out of 5. One of my favorites….but I am also pushing 30…lol. Not a young kid anymore, so I could relate more to it then say a listener who is 18-ish.
# 10 – you had some good points!
October 14th, 2007 at 6:03 am
jay said he not afraid to try new things musically, shown on bp2 and kc….even the black album. Also not afraid to face the fact that certain songs/topics should have been kept in the vault(in hindsight).
“im not afraid of dying,im afraid of not trying”…
” son said hov how u get so fly/i said from not beimg afraid to fall out the sky…..”

October 14th, 2007 at 6:36 am
well i”am 17. i “am just mature, always has been .and not to mention half my whole child hood. i can’t imagine him not around. i stayed hearing him.when he was murking them summers.i was young as hell bout 7 on up .i like being young cause i haven’t heard every last song.plus i find out new stuff from him every day in the songs i”am most familiar with.
jay is always getting a bad rep. for rapping about what he went through. but they fail to realize that if you listen to any song from him. you always learn something .he doesn’t glorify it. he tells you the bad that comes with it..jay came in to this game grown ass hell. when blueprint hit. this nigga was thirty .and altho he appealed to all ages .he was exstreamly relevant .so in his music commming from a young person perspective. he was teaching .and gave you a hot beat and hot hook with the journey. he couldn’t front cause he was a grown ass man .not no lil nigga rapping.so he was real with his shit and also intelegent . i didn’t like kindom come as an album. but some of those songs were amazingly well put together. some were like . what the fuck is the corny as shit .i”am not trying to stop his growth tho.
BUT PEOPLE FAIL TO REALIZE when we as fans say .i wish he was the old jay. we an’t talking about subject matter.we mean flow, beat, witt shit like that. cause the black albums my 1st song.still shit’s on anything comming from kingdom come.

I agree that K.C. was not a very good album, but on the flipside, we compare Jay-Z to Jay-Z, His ability to separate himself from the rest of the group has proved that hs is truly a living legend.
The general public has in some way or the other, lowered their standards to what is good Hip Hop. I myself am guilty of it. When Jay comes, he usually leaves us wondering what is he saying; we have to ride the CD for about a week or two before it grows on us/we finally get what’s going on. A lot of people don’t give themselves a chance to get at that level, they don’t here the southern bass they’re used to, and do quite understand the lyrics then chunk the CD and write it up as wack.
I’m still discovering what Jay-z is saying in R.D. so we have quite a way to go before we break the puzzle of K.C.
I’ll mos def appreciate A.G. because I won’t have to study it first to enjoy it.
I’ll end this by quoting one of my favorite lines from Roc Boys:
“Take what the Forbes figured then figure more….
Cuz they forgot to account what I did with the raw”

October 14th, 2007 at 9:07 am
that’s what i like about hov when you compare him you have to compare him to himself that’s how you know he’s in his own league and it’s always been like that thanx 69 for bringing that in to the light
oh here’s something for the haters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyTxsTiFFq4 can’t forget about yall…
October 14th, 2007 at 9:11 am
I don’t think any cd in hip hop has created so much of a divide in opinions I say that cus even Jay fan’s ain’t to sure about the cd.
I think it was a good and had some bangers and deep tracks what more do you want in a cd. His lyrics were on point people say his flow was slow but his flow fits the beats perfectly.
October 14th, 2007 at 9:20 am

must of you idiot who are saying that kingdom come flop, are not even rapper ya not in the music business, and ya don’t no shit about music. so ya should shut the fuck up cuz to me 2 mill’ is really good, plus jay is the best rapper alive. so he doesn’t really have to prove anything, weather he sell platinum which will still be good. and for all those homo’s who are talk shit about jay album floppin, to me even if jay album went gold, at least he getting his money right. and for all those hater who are talking shit about jay on the website, i bet you even if kingdom come sold 100k or 300k, jay will still have more money then all ya homo’s who are hating on him on this web. so you should really shut up and stop hating and get your money, cuz i no that the nigga that aren’t hating got there mothafuckin money….. so stop hating with ya broke asses, cuz ya no that if jay gave ya a piece of that check ya wouldn’t talk shit.

2 cuts thatsfked the album up badly was
1)Show me what you got (worst jay single since change clothes and now blue magic..he souldnt fk with pharrell, his minimal beats aint worth the price)
2) Anything ft.Ùsher (totally disgusting track and the best annoyin beat ever
3) Dig a hole (wack ass beat from swizz…jay was maybe on too much weed to not choose the just blaze joint woow)
PS:Jay’s verses were nice on K.C. but the beat selection sucked hard (n/h)….
Final Verdict:3/5

Some of you guys that visit this site are so hypocritical…dude attempted to show his growth on Kingdom Come; and did a good job might I add, and all people wanna do is criticize. That just shows where we are as people. We want the old Jay-Z. So what we do, we force the man to talk about a lifestyle that he’s no longer in touch with. Then on the other hand, we call rappers fake who don’t live the life they rap about, but this is what we’re trying to get Hov to do. I do admire his approach concerning the matter. He’s using the movie American Gangsta as a excuse to touch areas he’s no longer affiliated with, so he won’t seem like a phony. It’s sad how we force artists to do things they’re not really comfortable doing. That’s what we do when we ask for the old Jay-Z.

thats half the reason hiphop music sales decline, in my opinion, yes the internet is the biggest reason. but hiphop fans are real and they want u to be real. if u stay in the same lane for ten years sooner or later your fans are gonna say, na he still sound the same, no growth, no new style, no money sorry.
hip hop is creative, fresh, new, ahead of the pack. atleast thats what i thought. we are trendsetters. so when we stop setting trends and standing still we lose our swagger. rappers are afraid to be creative, take a risk, take a chance and be different. thats why kanye has any fans at all, cuz he trying to change shit up, and him and jay realize that fans are gettin bored wit tha same old shit.
disposable music, take a chance, help hiphop move forward. its 2007 and rappers are rappin about what they did in the 90’s, we know u grew, dont be afraid to tell us about it
October 14th, 2007 at 11:39 am
Fuck it!!! I loved the Kingdom Come joint, i think the first track “The Prelude”(”Da game’s fucked up, niggaz’ beats is bangin and they hooks did it”) was da best introdutory song of all time i remember i actually probably rewinded it like 20 times.”Lost ones” is a classic as of “Kingdom Come” both dem tracks killed every little songs dat those so called rappers were doing at da time. Da song with John Legend iz a great musical tribute do someone who is locked up(Emery Jones whut up!!)I dont even know why dat “Hollywood” banger with B was not made into a single cuz it was my jumpoff anthem when i wanted to start off da night right. And whut about “Minority report(”People were poor before da Hurricane came”)To me dat album was up there as one of best Album period,Phack it.

“…If I aint better than BIG, i’m the closest one” -Jay Z
yea he said that and so what. I don’t see what the problem is, I personaly think after all that he’s done he is better than BIG. too many people put Biggie and Tupac up on a pedestal because they died at the height of their careers. Its like you people don’t want any rapper to exceed the standards that they set. And if thats true, than how do you expect hip hop to grow. that is probably one reason, why people stop being lyrical, because they will never be able to get out of Biggie and Tupacs shadows. And stop talking about what Biggie and Tupac would’ve done. You don’t know them. They died before they had a chance to fall off or do anything else. Biggie only had 2 albums. Pac had loads of albums, but I dare somebody to say all of them were classics or that they didnt have alot of garbage material on them. Why dont you people just let them Rest In peace and move on. Bump their music, but dont talk about,
“Pac would’ve bodied him”..you dont know what dude would have done. You don’t know these rappers relationships behind the scenes. Who thought Rocafella would break up? Who thought Little Brother wouldve broken up? stop the speculation and speak on facts. It makes for more productive conversation.
October 14th, 2007 at 12:04 pm
co-sign # 84..
but wit two legends like big & pac, its the standard way 2 make music. not that all was good but in the manner these two did, u gotta look at their way of survival. cash rules everything around me (c.r.e.a.m. by wu tang 4 da slo ppl) wasn’t jus a track jus 2 put out. that dollar make ppl act retarded. pac & big was the best for that time. jigga iz that dude everyone wanna catch.
and age is nothing cuz the temptations didn’t stop at 40 or sports legends that played past 40. actors & so on. stop lookn at his age and figure out how 2 gro as jigga did on each album. ask mobb deep u can only fight so much til it catches up & u talkin sweet. 50 won the battle but lost the war.
stick 2 the growth music i.e. mos def, kweli, common and any other emcees spit’n truth no bs cuz we see them on tv.

October 14th, 2007 at 12:38 pm
Like you said, many tracks should NOT have made it to the CD – although there were some hits thats for sure.
October 14th, 2007 at 1:15 pm
I feel like I was the only one who liked it sometimes, cause as soon as you say the title people are like “GARBAGE”. I thought it was sophisticated, I thought musically he had matured, and the music was much more refined. His word play was still legendary. There were some duds on there but the good ones made up for it, I loved “Trouble”. But I don’t know SHIT about rap, I don’t hand out 5 mics or 4 stars or any of that. I just know what I like. JMHO
October 14th, 2007 at 1:18 pm
i know that “If I aint better than BIG, i’m the closest one” -Jay Z” is not what people are reffering to by him saying he’s better than big .do you know how many people were telling him he was not big and just putting him down saying if big was here you wouldn’t be this or that’s what he was saying i hope people have better since than that .
that’s why on funk flex freesyle he said “hov got flow tho he’s no big and pac how i”am suppose to win when they got me fighting ghost” do yall understand that he is doing sooo much to make history but still he’s left in there shaddow
you get what i’am saying he wasn’t dissing him he said fine if i”am not better than them then fine i’ll settle for being close
now i broke it down for yall if yall don’t understand then try going to school then get at me

this statement makes 50’s even more right about the marketing dollars and he only sold 1.7 mill what a shame 30 million the companys involved didnt re-coup fully jay u dissapointed me nigga 50 knows exactly what the ins and outs of the music business
October 14th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
Q 89.
The 30 million was not to promote the album you fool, it was primarily to promote their product, Jay simply used the opportunity to pigy back on them and cross promote his album, at no cost to him. HP, Bud, and others didn’t care what his album did, as they didn’t invest in it, they invensted in their product by capitalizing on the hype Jay had, and that his buzz would bring attention to their product. Go study the game of indorsing before you comment please.
October 14th, 2007 at 1:51 pm
but im sayinn jay is better den big . . big only had like 4 albums all classicz but im sayin wat does jay-z have to do to surpass big? you cant keep giving him da pass jus cuz he is dead
1.) jay & 2.) big . . .. . 35.)tupac (lmao) jus playinn
October 14th, 2007 at 1:59 pm
To me it was the first album i bought from Jay-Z since he’s been with Bee and I thought it was nice and it sounded like a more grown up version of Jay.

October 14th, 2007 at 3:31 pm
I personally like Kingdom Come. It showed another side of Hov. Come on people. We already know he can still get gangsta. Look at Blue Magic. That shit aint even his best but it’s still hotter than 75% of the shit we done heard this year. When I listen to Hov from Reasonabale Doubt to Kingdom Come I hear growth and maturity. And I’m only 18 years old. I still felt 30 somethin. I still don’t see how age is something that should determine an artist’s ability. As far as Jay is concerned if American gangster is nearly as good as the Black album, Jay could still be rappin for the next 5 years. As far as New York is concerned there is too much talent in NY that people aint hearin. When the day comes that Jay does step down from rappin 9if it ever happens) NY should still be in good hands as long as these record labels give them niggaz a chance. But Jay still gonna be here fro at least 2 or 3 more albums so NY aint gotta worry about that King of NY thing for now. Hate him or love him. Jay wouldn’t be as big as he is now for no reason. I agree that if Big and Pac were still alive the game would be way different. But Jay was the one that tried his ass off to fill those holes as best as he could and he did a hell of a job. Whether you agree or ot Jay is still the King of hip hop. Every where. Not just NY. Every where. If you don’t like it then fuck you. And like I said I’m only 18. Jay is 37. He’s still king of my generation of hip hop.
October 14th, 2007 at 3:48 pm
number 94, you must be the dumbest nigga on earth, cuz kingdom come had alot of different topic on the album. your probably just a dumb ass nigga that don’t no shit about music. see maybe if you listen to the album, and understand it you will no a lil more dumb ass. but im sure your one of those niggas that listen to soulja boy, and if kingdom come the type of shit that you don’t want to hear, then say u don’t say we. cuz i think the album was a classic, he talk about different thing beside. his mama’ his credit’ his nephew dying’ and all that other bullshit you said, he talk about way more shit that delt with hiphop. but of corse you wouldn’t mention the hiphop side that he has on kingdom come….jay is hiphop stop hating.

“Maybe it was too sophisticated. Maybe I fucked up.” – Jay-Z
^^
He was super honest, if the man don’t sell no white since a dacade why should it be the main topic of his CD if Reasonable Doubt is out and Jeezy overdosed thesubject by commercializing it with one symbol(Snowman)only lol !? …Don’t get it twisted about the shit I said earlier (no.84) but his rhymes were super well crafted like usually on K.C. but it’s just that his beat selection was a lil’ weeker than what he prepares on each releases –>(Anything/Dig a hole/Show me what u got)When I 1st heard the track KC on a mick boogie mixtape i was buggin…the shit was so fresh and when i discovered that this vibe didn’t reflect what i found on the album when i bought it…I was disappointed, especially when show me what u got
Positive Note about an average ”Jay-Z CD” : Lost Ones had the CRISPIEST snare ever..fkin mind blowin production from the doc!! Kindom Come(the Just Blaze joint) was the best hiphop super hero anthem interpretation point blank, The Prelude was a ”WTF!!! Jay’s at it again, Pain in da ass classic intro whoa!!!”
PS: K.C. can be described has a simple ”OOhhh shiit it’s gon be another classic(Dr.Dre & Just Blaze beats, creative titles as always, crazy topic about him being a savior a la Superman) then when you get the final product”wooooww a lil dissapointing..half of the joints were bonkers, the other half, no comment (c) 9th Wonder”

he was spittin ova yall head so yall might not understand wat he is trying to bring to the game
October 14th, 2007 at 10:52 pm
I think kingdom come was a hot album. Whoever said it was his worst album ever didn’t listen to vol.1. Now that was a mistake. Kingdom come was a hot album. His flow wasn’t the same but he still had it. Even on some of the pop joints, he went in. “The music biz is like musical chairs, it’s about where you standin’ when the music stops spinnin’”…that’s a crazy line. I’d say the only truly bad songs were “anything” and “show me what you got”. everything else was hot. Some not up to par with his previous works but hot regardless. Oh, and the title track was CRAZY!..As far as advertisement goes…”can’t knock the hustle”
October 15th, 2007 at 7:01 am
i liked kingdom come, but it was a bit boring and went out of rotation quickly for me. still coppin the new shit
October 15th, 2007 at 10:10 am
If he would have mention Cam and them niggas name on dig a hole or some other songs then people would have thought the album was hotter. I liked Kingdom Come because when it drop I was on some grown man shit anyway so i felt it but juicey right it fell out of rotation.
October 15th, 2007 at 3:53 pm
It was a shitty album. I honestly think Jay was trying to take his recording career a different direction post retirement and tried to make an album that would appeal to different audience. The problem is, its decidedly not what Jay does best, and he seemed to forget that he would need his core fans to cosign his reinventing himself before the unsure new fans would accept it. We (core fans) didn’t accept it. Thats why Kingdom Come came and went, because while it wasn’t technically a bad record, it definately wasn’t a Jay-Z record. Musically or lyrically. It was just such a departure from who he has been to us for so long, we couldn’t process that, and wouldn’t.
Thats why I think Jay almost has to make American Gangsta, to close the show how it started so to speak, to take us back to the dopegame he illustrated so well on Reasonable. He has to go out on the proper note, and I’m excited about this new record because it sounds like this is the album we’ve all wanted. Blender described the AG album as being for “Jay-Z nerds”. Pardon the phrasing, but you gotta admit, it intrigues you.
October 15th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
i dont understand the “too sophisticated” comment. if something is sophisticated it can still be enjoyable. just cause you take all the fun and enjoyability out of something doesnt automatically make it sophisticated. maybe the shit was just bad, jay?

You young ass lame ass little fucking hip hop killers don’t have any fucking respect for art. Jay is not going to talk about kilos and guns anymore assholes because he is living a totally different lifestyle and also when you get older you tend to see life as it REALLY IS! You little baby ass gangsta for life motherfuckers need to grow up and learn how to show respect for art and stop looking for the most negative rapper to give the throne to. Learn what Hip Hop is about first dumb asses! I’m sick of the stupid shit. We need a new campaign for our culture called STOP THE FUCKING IGNORANCE PLEASE!
