Jay-Z Classic Albums: Reasonable Doubt on VH1 Now
Jay-Z has been one of the most influential figures in black American music since the mid-nineties. Initially as a performer racking up an incredibly successful string of hit singles and albums and latterly as an executive, having taken on the presidency of Def Jam Records in 2004. “Reasonable Doubt” was his debut album and is still considered by many to be his finest achievement. A much harder hitting and edgy record than his later more polished and pop orientated releases it announced to the world that a new rap star had arrived. This latest addition to the Classic Albums series sees Jay-Z take us back through the whole creative process behind this stunning first release.
On Vh1:
Oct. 3rd 11 pm Eastern
Oct 4th 1a.m.
I will post some clips from the Reasonable Doubt concert

October 3rd, 2007 at 7:55 pm
OK FOR JIGGA FANS…..IT LOOKS LIKE ITS OFFICIAL…
AMERICAN GANGSTER IS DROPPING NOVEMBER 6TH. FOR ANYONE WHO WAS WATCHIN THE VH1 SPECIAL WE ALL SAW THE OFFICIAL COMMERCIAL WITH ALBUM COVER AND RELEASE DATE. I DONT KNOW ABOUT YALL BUT IF BLUE MAGIC IS A PREVIEW OF WHATS ON IT, THIS IS ALBUM IS GONNA BE CRACK.
October 3rd, 2007 at 8:07 pm
the thing is u guys may like or may not like ‘blue magic’ but its like one of the BETTER singles that’s come out this year. what does that say bout the rappers that are out now? LOL.
i didnt like ‘blue magic’ at first but after giving it a few listens and letting it marinate, im actually feeling the record now but thats my opinion.
u guys seem to realize that hov at his ABSOLUTE WORST, is better then these guys at their BEST. these rappers need 2 step their game up cuz hov, nas, snoop, etc can’t rap forever and when those guys finally ‘retire’ the culture as we know it may be over, i mean nas is right the culture itself is dead, and these rappers suck.
we look 2 the past at albums like ‘reasonable doubt’, ‘illmatic’, etc cuz the albums/songs nowadays SUCK SOOO BAD. we look to the past cuz the present sucks.
October 3rd, 2007 at 8:11 pm
pop in one of those classic albums and jus listen to the wordplay, metaphors, similes, and jus clever lines that young jay, big, snoop, nas, and rakim were spitting. i was born in ‘87 and i listen to those albums more then the shit thas on today cuz hip hop has now become too commercial and everybody copies everybody else.
thas y i praise kanye cuz hes not the best rapper but he really tries like he has sum sick lines/metaphors in his lyrics AND he conciously does the complete opposite of what everybody in hip hop does cuz NEWSFLASH: thas how u stand apart, make a name 4 urself, and thus MAKE MONEY LOL.
October 3rd, 2007 at 8:19 pm
#6 said it best.
Jay-Z is top 5 ALL-Time
at damn near 38, he’s better than most of the “younger guys.”
But also, the fans themselves need to let the past go. REASONABLE DOUBT, READY TO DIE, ILLMATIC, BLUEPRINT, DOGGYSTYLE, THE CHRONIC are the Greatest albums of the 90s (minus BLUEPRING; 2001).
Tomorrows legends are in front you our faces, but were so busy with the “old bunch”, we cant even see them.
Kanye, 50 (love him or hate him) may be the only formitable and relavant Future legends but still. Us as the HipHop culture need to stop playing the blame game. I myself, am not impressed by Lil’ Wayne, but I do recognize his importance to HipHop right now.
The game is at a stand still because the Guys that were surposed to replace Jay, Nas, Em, Snoop, etc., just arent cutting it. Perhaps we’ll have to wait for the generation AFTER.
October 3rd, 2007 at 8:23 pm
nigga plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
when its not hot its not, stop forcin urself to like a wack song just cuz its jay z, dude gets passes like no other for droppin garbage since he came back into the game
October 3rd, 2007 at 8:30 pm
JIGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! LOL
October 3rd, 2007 at 8:40 pm
I Say Blueprint was the best
October 3rd, 2007 at 8:59 pm
I didn’t know Fox wrote her own verse to “Aint No Nigga”…Foxy was a BEAST at 15, got damn!!!…WTF happened?…It’s f*cked up how all that raw talent went to waste…
HOV is a undeniable genius…Reasonable doubt was the best LP by him without a doubt…The word play was phenomenal…
I can’t wait for his album release…Shit is gonna be a masterpiece…
October 3rd, 2007 at 9:10 pm

October 3rd, 2007 at 9:35 pm
Jay-Z is great… one of the greatest rappers for sure.
October 3rd, 2007 at 10:06 pm
we used 2 fight for buildin blocks/ now we fight for block wit buildings that make a killin/ the closest of friends when we first started/but grew apart as the money grew soon grew blackhearted/thinkin back when we first learned to use rubbers/he never learned so in turn i’m kidnappin his baby’s mother/hand around her collar/feedin her cheese/she said the taste of dollars was shitty/ so i fed her 50’s/about his whereabouts i wasnt convinced/kept feedin her money till her shit started 2 make sense/who could ever foresee/we used to stay up all night and slumber party/now i’m tryin to rock this bitch to sleep/
thats when i realized that this dude isnt just another rapper, sittin in my livin room,tv off, high as hell, sittin in the recliner zoning…..u gotta seperate the good from the great. listen to these rappers, all of them, then you’ll respect the realness

American Gangster coming soon!
“I am so far ahead of the rest, I could start a new life and pass these other rappers twice”…Jay-z
October 4th, 2007 at 9:03 am
^ And he’s about to do just that.
October 4th, 2007 at 9:26 am
I’m tired of you youngins using age as a factor to determine the skill of someone…You are part the reason why hip hop is dead…Just keep listenin to your bubblegum music and leave the real music to the vets…There is ONLY ONE HOV…Dude is irreplaceable when it comes to his lyricism…
…EVERY artist out here now can easily be replaced and probably will be after their 5 year run/lifespan on top of the game is over…Ja had his 5 year run, Dipset had theirs, DMX had his, Wu Tang had theirs, The Lox/D block had theirs, Lil Waynes on his 3rd year (ever since his Carter LP) and G Unit’s 5 year lifespan is right around the corner, etc…These artist/MCs rotate on top in a 5 year cycle…then they get replaced by the next “hot/great thing” on the come up…
…EXCEPT FOR HOV…Hov is cut from a different cloth…His mindset and genius can NEVER be replaced…He is ahead of the times…RESPECT IT…
October 4th, 2007 at 9:49 am
I caught the 1am show. Funny how he was explaining his wordplay and metaphors like we’re all idiots or bandwagoners or some shit. Even funnier when Foxy started explaining how she got on Aint No Nigga. Pure bullshit when the world knows Jay wrote her verse. 15? Hardly.
Hope a Def Jam tour comes to fruition though. In fact, I’m saving up now for tickets.
October 4th, 2007 at 10:48 am
#26 at lease get his fucking lyrics right
October 4th, 2007 at 11:41 am
i will always say the Black Album is the greatest EVERYSONG i a hit, i didnt really like BluePrint 1
October 4th, 2007 at 11:51 am
Can’t say that it was one of the best “Ultimate Albums” specials, but it was still tight. However, I can’t believe that throughout the entire thing there was no mention of Dame or Biggs, even Jaz-O was there…Wow!
October 4th, 2007 at 11:54 am
The article in XXL about that album was way better than this show.
October 4th, 2007 at 12:47 pm
I liked the show last night. RD is a CLASSIC, No Question but I hope they do one on the Blueprint in the future so Kanye and Jus Blaze could describe how it felt to make Izzo, All I Need, Aint No Love, You Dont Know, etc! College Dropout also!
October 4th, 2007 at 12:57 pm
Mi Mi
Preach the TRUTH, Jay cant be replaced hell, Kingdom Come is supposedly Jay’s Worst Album yet he still went DOUBLE PLATINUM, when rapperes are struggling to go GOLD! LMAO!!!
Seven straight summers, critics might not admit it
But nobody in rap did it, quite like I did it
If you did it I done it before, you get I had it
Got mad at it and don’t want it no more
And that goes for everything from flippin that raw
Flippin whores, flippin vocal chords, don’t get it twisted
Get it right, did different, did it better, did it nice
Did the impossible then did it twice (get it right)
Jay-Z-Hovi Baby
