Historic Week in Hip-Hop
September 11th 2007, a very hyped historic day in hip-hop that most of us will always remember. Why would we not? It was this day that two of the biggest hip-hop icons released their highly anticipated third albums on a major label. This major event caused blogs, radio shows and even friends to engage in heated discussions over who will reign the king of hip-hop. Everyone had an opinion, even country singer Kenny Chesney, who believes he will end up on the top of the charts. September 11th has become a target date for many rappers as a release date. But before this year, September 11th, was remembered for another historic day in our lives. September 11th, 2001. I can still see the tragedy. The burning towers in New York and people falling out of windows high in the air. I still remember the pain, agony and sorry I felt for everyone involved. Apparently, I am one of the few that do remember. On September 11th, 2007, 50 cent and Kanye West had everyone’s eyes and ears. I was disappointed that neither artist, especially 50 cent who represents New York, failed to speak about the tragedy. September 11th, 2007 was solely about album sales, money and egos. Not one moment of silence from 106 & Park (filmed in New York) who spent hours hosting both artists. As the two artists appeared on every major television and radio show throughout the day, there was no mention of the lives we lost on September 11th, 2001. Although this is primarily a hip-hop website, I do not see how we can ignore the biggest tragedy in hip-hop’s birth place. Today, hip-hop is critized by almost everyone including politicians and journalists. I see a missed oportunity by two of the biggest hip-hop icons today, to show people that hip-hop is more than money, record sales, and violence.

realtalk. 1st bitches
dats not even true wen kanye was on power 105 in the morning
they did a moment of silence for the 9/11 victims
I disagree with you and your post. I think you are exaggerating. Just because 50 and Kanye didnt do anything doesnt mean that they dont care. If u had a wedding on September 11th 2015 would u have a moment of silence for the victims of 911 or would u be so happy and focused on ur wedding that u wouldnt necissarily be thinking bout that at the moment. Their 3rd albums are big things to them so they focused on that. Please dont hate
what u tlkn bout real he donate some proceed of his album to the fdny families that lost people on sept 50 that is
After all that shit talking, Kenny Chesney’s going to out sell 50. HILARIOUS!
“I see a missed oportunity by two of the biggest hip-hop icons today, to show people that hip-hop is more than money, record sales, and violence.”
umm…hip-hop isn’t more than money, record sales, and violence, at least the hip-hop that BET plays and 50 and Kanye produce (to a lesser degree Kanye). most of dem are house negros willin to sell the dignity of their people for profits..ahh i miss real hip-hop
I think both sides have made good points. Hip hop needed to see healthy competition between heavy weights n— z beefn ova stupid s–t. However, I think when they both appeared on 106 and park they missed a great oppertunity to show the world that life is more than “I get money” and “Big Brother”.
My bad on the dubble post. I think both sides have made good points. Hip hop needed to see healthy competition between heavy weights rather than n— z beefn ova stupid s–t. However, I think when they both appeared on 106 and park they missed a great oppertunity to show the world that life is more than “I get money” and “Big Brother”.
Whoever wrote this is an idiot. At the end of the day, this is their job. BET’s job is to grab ratings and 50/kanye’s job to sell records. The biggest Day for hip hop in along time needs to be focused on hip hop. Its was suppose to be a happy day. Something positive. Why bring the negativity of 9/11/01 into it?
WELL ONCE AGAIN…YOU DOING THE G. BUSH TACTIC….TRYING TO LINK HUMAN VIOLENCE TO HIP HOP. RAP REFLECTS LIFE..AND LIFE IS REFLECTED IN RAP. AMERICA IS ABOUT VIOLENCE, MONEY, AND SELLING PRODUCT. NO MATTER THE PRODUCT. BUT BLAME IT ON HIP HOP. LIKE THE RECORD COMPANY HAVE TO PUT THIS SHIT OUT.
NEGATIVITY??? your ignorance makes me sick…an estimated 2,819 people lost their lives that day….343 of those were firefighters and paramedics trying to rescue people from the burning towers..over 1,600 people lost their spouses and over 3,000 children lost their parents..show some reverence and respect for those lost and those who lost on 9/11/01
Yesterday was nothing but over hype to rappers who’s third album is worst than previous albums and 9/11 is being used for profit.

Exactly what part of all those deaths you mentioned not fall under the category of negativity?
Before I started seeing all the tributes and so forth on tv I thought to myself how was anyone to know this year there would be sometype of big rememberance. You got to remember this is the 6 year anniversary are we to think that every year there will be a big rememberance. I do feel for those that loss loved ones but I do not think last year there was a big rememberance so how was so one to not there would be one this year and it is not even the 10th anniversary.
thats is true to an extent but they cared they just was doin they job on 106th promotin they album… they were so hyped about gettin da crowd to give them more cheers about they songs they prolly just forgot u cant blame them or hip hop like niggaz is sayin above me it was one of the biggest days in hip hop history and they were a part of it…50 will outsell kayne and that rock dude…R.I.P. to everyone who died 9/11/2001…my heart goes out to those folks gone…
Only reason Kanye is winning is because Def Jam is buying 200,000 copies.
CURTISSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The ignorance of some of the people that post here amazes me.. 9/11 was just 6 years ago…how quickly we forget
i dont think anyone has or will ever forget that tragic day, it will always be in the back of our minds and we will always feel sorrow for the victims. On 9/11/01 i was 19 headed to work listening to Jay-Z on Doug Banks morning show. he had just released his album, i was excited. Then i get to work and the mood changed so quickly. that event changed this whole country, how can anyone forget that, we are at war as we speak. you dont have to do a big speech or even make a big deal about it, we are americans and that will never change. the Kanye/50 battle was something positive to look forward to on 9/11. sad to say, but life does go on. and RTNY, i was on the blog off and on all day on 9/11/07 and you barely posted anything let alone something about the tragic event. this is an NY website, so if you can talk about how the icons didnt do it, then you should point the finger at self.
it was six years ago i don’t understand why it is such a big deal that BET didn’t have a moment of silence EVERY other channel was Talking about IT. And yes it was a true Tragedy that happened on 9/11 but is it so wrong to try and move on and Celebrate the goodness of life?? the Clash of the Titans Really celebrated creativity. And as the other person said there really wasn’t a big commotion about it this year but i garantee you on the 10th aniversary thats all you will be able to watch on TV
i don’t really think people have forgotten because thats something that will always be with us i just think people are ready to move on and begin to celebrate life again
I still remember that day I aint from USA but I remember going to R.E on the Wednesday and hearing about it still have the images in my head. I don’t think people are neccessary ignorning it they are just not over glamerizing it. I think the artists didn’t want over glamerize out of respect for the people who died doesn’t mean they don’t care.
Not true, Kanye spoke about it several times, 50 just don’t give a damn, towers far from QB gutters, he’ll always be from the hood…
FUCK 9/11….and fuck all you americans
so get the fuck off of this site cause it’s based out of AMERICA
All I’m saying is that there are 364 OTHER days of the year…why would they choose to put their albums out on September 11th…it was a marketing ploy, which is disgusting to think about
