Segregation In Schools On The Rise
– Public schools in the United States are becoming more racially segregated and the trend is likely to accelerate because of a Supreme Court decision in June, according to report published on Wednesday.
The rise in segregation threatens the quality of education received by non-white students, who now make up 43 percent of the total U.S. student body, said the report by the Civil Rights Project of the University of California in Los Angeles.
Many segregated schools struggle to attract highly qualified teachers and administrators, do not prepare students well for college and fail to graduate more than half their students. The United States risks becoming a nation in which a new majority of non-white young people will attend “separate and inferior” schools, the report said.
How about politicians and the media leave Hip Hop alone for a second and address the sub standard school systems in poor communities?

This has been a issue since we were approaching the millennium. Does anyone remember prop 187 in CA? Nothing changes cause minorities are not proactive in changing it, shit we are not even reactive with some stuff.
UCLA are hypocrites to, they are 3% African American and that includes Nigerians, Ethiopians ect. Plus when your on campus mostly all the brothas you see are 6′7″ and taller and play some type of sport.

dont bas me on this but this is how i feel.
i went to a 98% black elementary, middle and high school.
they didnt prepare me for college either, but the fact that my parents wasnt letting that shit ride is the reason im in my senior year of college now, filling out grad school applications.
my schools were bullshit academically, and like most black high schools, dudes looked at football and basketball for that trip to the next level of education.
before we can address the sub standard school conditions, the sub standard family conditions have to be dealt with.
we can have the best schools but if they kids goin there dont give a fuck, then it is all for not.
without strong family and community we cant accomplish shit is this society. forreal, thats how i feel.
September 6th, 2007 at 8:28 am
its amazing how we as black people can just sick back & not do a damn thang… where are our black leaders in this matter. instead they wanna smash on the youth. bcuz they afraid of the truth and don’t wanna have the secret society looking at them as martin or “X”… by any means brothers and sisters. enuff of all this bs when they will always think negative of us. its just about time for the new movement….in due time…
September 6th, 2007 at 8:32 am
If your family doesn’t give a fuck about your grades, or the amount of detentions you got, or the amount of days you skip school, or when you were caught fighting in the middle of class then sadly things will most likely continue the way they are. All societies biggest successes and failures are mostly due to family life. Without some type of positive upbringing under priviledged kids (period, including poor whites, yeah, they do exist) will ALWAYS struggle to excel.
Its not the fault of the teachers. If anything it is our generation who has to be there for our kids and be faithful.

Shut the hell up young_christ
You know damn well you aren’t gonna be the next malcolm or luther, stop preaching, and just do the simple thing, be a man. Black people don’t need a ‘REVOLUTION’ we need to just support each other and stop living down to americas expectations.

real talk i’m so tired of people saying please leave hip hop alone…hip hop artist (not all of them) need to just be real and acknowledge that some of their lyrics are degrading and is not uplifting to the black community…i’m so tired of hearing everybody ignore those facts…hip hop is not to blame for everything that goes wrong in our black community but you have to admit it is an enabler to some of the negativity in our community. young minds regardless of what parents say or do are impressionable and pick up on those things they see and hear….i know parents need to raise there kids but what’s wrong with sending positive messages out there…i know everyone didn’t grow up in the suburbs with a white picket fence and there is freedom of speech….but if you have the chance to spread something positive for your people instead of negative…why not choose the positive or if there isn’t why not just keep it to yourself….i know that’s a contradiction of free speech but that’s the best way i can put how i feel… it’s not helping us and you know they sit back and look at us and say how ignorant we are for what we say in our songs..how we view women and lack of respect and just laugh at us..how we hear certain songs in the club that promotes violence that ends up in fighting or maybe even a shoot out later..and you know that’s real talk…. how about doing something to uplift our community instead of glorifying being a hoe or dealing drugs and other negativities that you have in certain songs..i love music and i love some hip hop but only the positive side of it…take the blind folds off and look at it for what it really is…start uplifting our people not degrading us…..just my thoughts real talk…..

Preach RTNY
I went to all white schools and all black schools and I noticed that what i was being taught in a black high school was what i learned in a white middle school. this has to change, my city is totally segregated and so are the schools.

Couldnt agree more with #7. This is why I enjoy this site so much. Its not just music, its current events. Anyway #7 hit the nail on the head and reminded me of the David Banner interview.
We (black people) need to stop depending on everyone else to be positive for us and help us raise our kids. We need to do it ourselves. We need to focus on education first so that way kids can grow up and be good parents but it is turning into a catch 22 situation.

September 6th, 2007 at 1:20 pm
This is a sad but very true fact. Even in schools that are “integrated”, it is hard to see minority students in high level courses, and if there are, they were placed into these courses to fulfill some sort of quota, without the proper training(for lack of a better word). It is as if educators have given up half of their student body.
OFF SUBJECT: have you noticed how surprised white people get when they meet a black person as smart as they are?Fucked up ain’t it?
September 6th, 2007 at 3:40 pm
You wanna here some real racist shit. Look up what’s happened in Louisiana. Where 6 black kids were being charged with 2nd degree attempted murder for beating up a white kid who hung a noose on a tree on school grounds. The white kid spent all of 3 hours in the hostipal and then went to a ring ceremony the SAME night.
September 6th, 2007 at 4:15 pm
different toilet, same shit… but i think your family does play a big role in how well you do in school.
September 6th, 2007 at 4:36 pm
Kind of funny you post news about segregation when you wanted us vote you (RTNY) for “black blog of the year” lol
September 8th, 2007 at 5:55 am
I had my son in a mostly black school. Back to school night,2 parents showed. We moved and the back to school night in a mostly white school, 100% percent participation. It is not the color of the school that guarantees success, it is the attitude of the community. If you live in a don’t give a fuck community what the fuck you think is gonna happen? Other people ain’t gonna clean your house for you! I also feel that in a mostly black or latino community the teachers should reflect the population of the school. Not saying throw all the white teachers out but our children need to see more successful black people on a constant basis.
