Congress Set To Take A Look A Hip Hop’s Lyrics & Videos

A new front on the content wars may be opening when Congress holds its first hearing specifically into media “stereotypes and degradation” of women — particularly African- American women — later this month.

Hearing, not yet officially announced and tentatively skedded for Sept. 25, will focus primarily on hip-hop lyrics and videos, which critics have frequently derided for explicit misogyny aimed largely at black women.

Just as his colleagues on other committees have summoned TV execs to be grilled on sexual or violent content, Rush wants to hear from the leaders of companies purveying rap music. The intent is to examine commercial practices behind the music’s most controversial content.

Full Story

They will find the worst video clips and lyrics and only focus on them.

i dont have a problem with congress looking into shit. they not going after the artist of the music. u cant blame artist they would walk around wit clown wigs on if they thought thats what the bosses tell’em. the companies want that guap and if u aint doin what moves units u gettin put on the shelf. so if u dont wanna be on the shelf u betta put sum butt naked hoes in your videos.

when i was younger i loved the fact that sum girls were hoes and sum girls were not. but nowadays kids got it easy cuz almost all of the girls either are hoes or wanna be hoes or wanna act like a hoe. they wanna be what they see in these videos (not all the young girls but alot of them).
let congress clean it up, we are the only people who have sumthin to gain. instead of a generation of strippers , we might have a generation of leaders

LOL, yea, BET, KING, XXL and Smooth, hell maybe host some parties. very few have gotten far, have any?

real talk ny you disgraced yourself why does every one so quick to defend rappers and hiphop ? Hiphop now is audio genocide and if not for rap/hiphop i believe we would have a lot more positive black role models to motivate these young boys to stay in school.

hiphop now if you stay in school you are played like a fool and etc.

rap is wack it was a gift now a curse, before we had gospel then soul then rock n roll then jazz then funk and etc so has hiphop came we stopped developing other music.

hiphop is wack, and i thought this would never happen in congress because i thought they want us to keep shitting on each other while killing each other.

bumps 50 cent – window shopper and still i kill

waits for post to be deleted.

  7. Rapalot Says:

They goin get lil wayne, 50cent, Ol’ retarded ass nigga lil boosie…

  9. okie dokie Says:

  10. okie dokie Says:

Shit I want it all, even if I don’t get it at least I can say I tried
My own friends turned to dope fiends and it shows
Ask me for 20 dollars instead of asking me to come on the road
Can you blame me for wantin’ to take my homies up out the hood?
And get moms everything she liked
You know I’ve been in this rap shit for 8 long years
    Y’all thought it happened overnight
Y’all see the money and the fame
But y’all don’t see the struggles in the game
It’s hard to stay the same
    Y’all might notice a change
I’m just tryin’ to get my money
See ya only get one chance
You gotta go out and get it and make it happen
    Ya heard me?

  12. blaze Says:

damn, they finna ban hip hop yall, i cud smell it. we gotta prepare for there is a war going on and no one is safe

  13. Pounce Says:

They can scrutinize lyrics all they want, they will never be able to touch the 1st amendment. Also I agree w/ RTNY.

  14. blaze Says:

well not ban but put heavy censor ship

  15. The King Says:

they could never ban hip hop, u cant shut real niggas up. people who got sumthin to say cant be shut up. ask pac, he’s still talkin shit to the world. only bullshit music and videos that dont serve a purpose and move us forward will get shut down. i wish we would shut them down ourselves but we like to see ass and tits on tv. who doesnt? the problem is u got those people thinking that they belong in the same class as the rappers who can change a topic on a dime, anybody can be gangsta, have u seen the white rapper show? thats why congress is steppin in, they’ll be damned if they see lil’ billy crip walkin wit a blue rag in his pocket. support the people that support your people basically. the ones who want us to kill each other can eat a dick

  16. bigjay Says:

well they could hold all the meetings they want.they cant do nothing about it cuz we all have free speech

  17. atlantabyrdgang Says:

just another unjustified attack on an artform….what do you expect when the minority is dominating the genre…they have already censored hip hop on every major media outlet…have hearings on the problems that are really plaguing this nation…look at the trailer for shoot ‘em up…come on let’s be serious this is a classic congressional shakedown..art is supposed to be subjective in delivery as well as interpretation…which means there is definately an alterior motive..but go ahead and do what you want to hip hop u can’t censor the people…u bann hip hop and guess what something more vile and denagrading is going to manifest itself

  18. A dime a dozen Says:

^^^^ @ 14; I agree with you however, with freedom of expression & any other kinds of freedom comes responsibility. Unfortunately music is such a powerful and influential medium of entertainment that when something negative is portrayed some people(i.e bill o reily) look to the hip hop genre specifically to put blame for social problems at the moment and use it as a scapegoat (i.e imus). So I think rappers need to start being a bit more responsible and conscious of the images that are being portrayed and the messages they are sending.

why isn’t the movie industry being targeted; specifically horror films or action films that contain a lot of violence? nothing in entertainment is 100% positive. But movies are not going to be targeted because they don’t have as much influence as music does especially hip hop music and that is why the hip hop genre is being targeted now.

  19. Anon Says:

Of course they’re going to look at the worst shit and piece it together. The first sentence tells you so.

A new front on the content wars may be opening when Congress holds its first hearing specifically into media “stereotypes and degradation” of women — particularly African- American women — later this month.

Good hip hop lyrics aint degrading. The worst are. SMFH.

  20. Im sellin oranges papi! (private joke) Says:

They gone be like a rapper once said: ‘THE POLICE ARE GONE HAVE TO COME GET ME- OFF YOUR ASS.. B4 I KILL YOU, COZ I DONT REALLY GIVE A FUCK BITCH MOTHERFUCKER!’ (thats actually a lyric by the late Eazy e) and that my friends is what we are fighting against….lol WHATEVER BITCH MOTHERFUCKERS!!! LOOOOL

They should do the same to rock music they get lyrics like:’Crawling in my skin.. worshipping the devil…Whats the difference between insects and angels’

  21. The King Says:

they can clean it up if they want. u know why i dont care and i feel this way. becuz no matter how much they clean it up my favorite artists wont be fazed by it. my favorite dudes aint gotta change nuthin.
and for women who follow the stereotypes, they need saving.thats realtalk. niggas can dance wit hoes, throw money at hoes, pour drinks on hoes. and girls want to be the next hoe in that position. what they dont realize is that these rappers dont go home to those hoes, they dont marry those hoes, they dont trick on those hoes. they marry and love the one who had SELF-RESPECT. wow those words are almost a sin round here.

the shit they really gonna look at is when snoop dogg had them bitches on leashes. yea i said bitches, they were on leashes what the fuck. the problem is,them dumb bitches chose to do that, if they said no, there were 2 more waiting behind them, and 2 more behind them. dont be mad at snoop he aint put a gun to they head. be mad at the broads that do dumb shit. dont speak up for prostitutes cuz they cant speak for themselves, tough, thats life. but congress comes to save a hoe. its all good maybe sum young girls will choose a book instead of a leash

  22. mikefromda718 Says:

fuck that im tired of black people thinking that because they are black thats grants them the right to criticize other black people and call them “DUMB” or put us down. people like bill cosby and al aharpton think they can hold a mirror to black people and point fingers. fuck that! if white people wanna use a RAP album to define a race let them! what type of sense does that make? i dont have time to cater to there closed mindedness and change the why i speak or what i listen to to make them or any other person black or white feel better. everybody after they own cause. digrading black women is wrong yes but america is like to all women across the board its like blks are looked on at a magnifing glass. when them 2 white chicks was rolling around in them beer commericals looking like “HOES” nobody said nothing, but when souja boy says “SUPER MAN THAT HOE” theres goin be big ass backlash against him doe

  23. YOUNG JESUS Says:

Fuck diss shit B them dudes betta take a look at SOUTPARK EN CELEBERTY DEADMATCH BEFORE THEY START QUESTIONING HIPHOP

WHO’S WITH ME OB THIS ONE? HOLLA!
