A Call to Action: 10,000 men – It’s a New Day
Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson is joining with civic leaders in an effort to recruit 10,000 black men to fight crime in Philadelphia’s toughest neighborhoods.
Dubbed “A Call to Action: 10,000 men – It’s a New Day,” the effort will begin Oct. 21 with a rally and recruitment drive at the Liacouras Center, followed days afterward by the training of the volunteers to act as community “peacekeepers.”
“It’s time for African-American men to stand up,” Johnson said in an interview. “We have an obligation to protect our women, our children and our elderly. We’re going to put men on the street. We’re going to train them in conflict resolution.”
“What we hope for is a sustained process to try and eradicate the mind-set among young people that they can go on killing each other, shooting each other at a whim,” Collins said.
Great to see people trying to make a change with action instead of just talk, I hope these valiant volunteers have success and stay safe.

People In These Neighborhoods Need 2 Wake Up. They Say O It’s Like This And I Have No Choice But To Turn To A Life Of Crime. Okay, What Does That Have 2 Do With All The Other Stupidity In The Hood. In My Hood You Can’t Even Walk With A Pretty Girl Without Being Dissrespected Or Walk Through If You DOn’t Know Anyone. Most People Who Don’t Have Shit. Don’t Deserve Shit.

That’s wsup! Philly is one of the many cities that is in dire need 2 get it’s murder rate down, waaaayyy down. I hope this can come in2 fruition, but it’s gonna be really tough b/c some of these cats might turn in2 vigilantes. It can be done, but only if it’s done RIGHT!

it just me or is that just another way to get black folk shot??? think about it? they recruitin black people? not white people to try and stop crime in their neighbor hoods.. its more like rather then have the cops or anyone else risk they lives, lets juss put these people on the front line n see what they can do… let them take the bullets instead?? i mean its good in a sense..but did they actually think it thru??
