So Kanye Even Outsold 50 Cent In The, “Hood”
Nationally, the city slicker 50 Cent even had to take a bow to the preppy West in the ‘hoods. Overall, ‘Ye moved 237,900 copies in cities, according to SoundScan’s geographical breakdown, to Fif’s 157,000 copies.
And in the ‘burbs, West took care of business as a whopping 578,000 fans scooped copies of his album. Fif, a favorite among the suburbanites, was the recipient of a strong presence there, but his 471,000 units in the land of soccer moms didn’t quite match up with West’s numbers.
I know some people thought 50 would have the hood on lock…

NO, FUCK THE HOOD 50 JUST WON IN THE WORLDWIDE
After losing the battle for first week sales in the States, 50 Cent can enjoy a little taste of revenge as many European charts put 50’s Curtis over Kanye West’s Graduation.
According to Billboard, Curtis made its debut at No. 1 on the European Top 100 Albums chart, while Graduation came in at No. 3. Billboard’s European Top 100 collects data from charts in 19 major European countries. 50’s album had a strong showing, scoring a chart-topping debut in both Switzerland and Ireland, while West is on top only in the United Kingdom.
In the U.K., Ye’s total of 84,000 copies sold helped him debut at No.1 there, just edging out 50’s tally of 72,000. Fif also managed to score an additional five other top five entries across the pond in countries like France, Germany, Austria, Holland and Norway, versus only three top five slots for Graduation, in Norway, Ireland and Switzerland. Kanye’s album failed to chart well in countries like France, where the record debuted at No. 33 and Spain, where the album has yet to earn a chart position.
Both artists are also in the top 10 of the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles, with 50’s “Ayo Technology,” featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, holding down the No. 4 spot and West’s “Stronger” at No. 6.

I was barraged with calls asking me why this happened, how this happened, did this really happen and what it means for all of us. Third, the album is great, so that the initial buyers (as well as those who heard it when it leaked early) spread the word and sales projections actually kept gaining during the week. It was no one-day wonder, as many albums are these days.
Fourth, not only was West highly visible on the VMAs, he topped it off with a post-show anti-MTV tirade that was picked up by every media outlet in the Western world, putting him in the eye of the news storm that surrounded the Britney Spears’ performance on the show. West became the anti-Britney—the man who was wronged—as well as the anti-MTV and the media miracle for the week. You couldn’t turn on the TV or go online without catching sight of him. That flood of multimedia exposure enabled the word to get out there that his album was available. The point is, breaking through the overwhelming white noise of the Information Age and focusing people’s attention is a key element in any effective marketing campaign.
And fifth, the additional publicity he garnered from being dissed by the 50 Cent camp—along with Fiddy’s media-trumpeted promise that if he failed to beat him, he’d never make another album—added more fuel to the media circus.
So what does this all mean for us?
1. Albums can still sell. (If he can do nearly 1m and Fitty almost another 700k in the same week, then there IS hope!)
2. Great music is always an essential ingredient.
3. Star quality is also necessary.
4. Hit singles never hurt. (Exposure of the right songs on the radio works, no matter what the radio bashers have to say.)
5. Publicity and exposure in all media is a key component. (Credit Messrs. Reid and Bartels and their team here for a job well done.)
6. Strive for greatness and add in all the other elements necessary to get people talking, and winners can still win!

September 22, 2007. A couple of weeks ago 50 Cent warned the public that Def Jam would try and buy up Kanye’s album – to artificially increase his sales numbers. And it now look like there may be evidence to prove his allegation.
We have learned that Kanye West’s album Graduation is scheduled to sell only 250K units in its second week – that’s a whopping 76% decline from last weeks sales.
And this isn’t the first time that a top selling Def Jam artist had such a monumental drop in second week sales. You’ll recall that last year we reported Jay-Z’s album Kingdom Come dropped almost 80% in second week sales.

Yeah I agree with you 2cents. This whole 50 thing is because of him, he has no one but himself to thank. There are too many ignorant 50 stans on this website so sometimes I just have to post ignorant ish to get across to them since they don’t seem to bother paying attention to any intelligent points.
Many rappers always come on the same day, there are always at least 5 artists scheduled on every release tuesday and theres never a “who lost” debate or frenzy. 50 is the one that turned it into a competition and all the fans ran with it.
From the first day Kanye said he was releasing on the 11th 50 cent started with all the silly statements like “he better move his date, hes irrelevant, Ill crush him, he’s scared, is jay stupid to put him on my date” etc etc. 50 opened his mouth every interview to say something dumb, up to the point where he said he would retire and kanye’s no competion etc, ect.
He tried in every interview to disrespect kanye as an artist, and that just threw more gas on the fire cause people get tired of arrogance and overconfidence. 50 used to be such a humble dude, I mean confidence is cool, but the money got to his head. So now after turning it into a compitition why shouldn’t people say he lost? He wanted it like that and his stans let it be known it was a compitition.
at the end of the day what does it matter, 50 was always just a decent hood nigga, he is never going to be a canidate for goat, and he’ll never be mentioned among the greats. He’s just a smart businessman that got lucky, there are millions of niggas in the hood like 50 who’ve been shot and had average lyrical skills like 50 but they just never got the chance. I applaud 50, he used hip hop like a gimmick and made made money off of it so congratulations to him, he’s a very smart businessman, he has enough money to last him for his lifetime, his gimmick is failing and he isnt selling as much, his group members all flopped, but what does he care, when he stops rapping no one is even going to care.

Hip Hop culture is very known in alot of European, African, and Asian countries. They are up to date with the music fam. Nas is known almost everywhere Jay Z is known. I’ve talked to folks in africa and they are up to date with the music. Some dudes that lives in africa told me Lil’Wayne was they favorite rapper not too long ago. I’ve seen Nas performing in Poland, Sweeden, and other European countries with sold out crowds, and people were actually reciting his songs offa illmatic. lol, Im not lying fam.
The hip hop scene in europe is real there, they mostly feeling backpackers, and real lyrical rappers. Common, Mos def, Talib,Nas, Jay, them dudes got fanbases in europe best believe.
Theres Channel O in Africa which is basically like BET, they show whatever is showing here. So cats there is up on whatevers hot there. Thhey have hip hop radio stations there that play whatever is hot here too, mixed with classics. Niggas was up on juvenile there back when cash money was running things. lol dolo u still don’t get it, writing a simple memorizable chorus doesnt mean the song is actually good. hurricane chris and soulja boy have simple memorizable choruses and those singles are HITS but the song themselves suck. 50 isnt a lyrical rapper, he writes simple memorizable choruses, that usually will transfer into a hit but doesnt mean the song is acutally any good. ‘candy shop’ and ‘jus a lil bit’ was pure garbage but it was a hit. ‘ay bay bay’ is pure garbage but the song is a hit.

when u listen to a song by 50 cent, ja rule, ti, and southern artists ur gonna hear a good beat and a good chorus that will ‘usually’ translate into a hit record of some kind. u dont check 4 their lyrics, cuz they dont have any good lyrics to begin with.
when u listen to a song by nas, jay, biggie, the game, jeezy (at times), wayne, eminem (at times), luda (at times), etc ur gonna look for a good beat, prolly a good chorus, but ur gonna look for those metaphors, hot lines, etc.
it’s simple, when realtalkny posts a new fiddy song. the posts are always always bout the beat and chorus. i’ve never heard/read any 50 fan recite any ‘ill line’ he had.
