Kanye West Accused Of Swagger Jacking?
I was sent a link from Wild 94.9 about Kanye’s new video, “Good Life,” being similair to Justice’s, “D.A.N.C.E.,” video. The site acknowledges they have the same director, but they bring up the fact that Kanye stormed the stage when Justice won at the MTV European Music Awards and Kanye claimed he didn’ see their video. What do you guys think?

Let’s get the facts straight, Kanye lost to “we are friends” by Justice, not D.A.N.C.E.
Kanye stated in numerous interviews that he would have gladly lost to D.A.N.C.E. as he thought the video was “genius”. This was then followed by him mentioning in more than one interview to “look out for my new video done with the team that did the Justice video, it’s going to be hot.”
So with blatant prior credit and a big up for the video that inspired it, I can’t really see how this is in any way swagger jacking.

As a cinema major I can name over 12+ videos that have the same cinematography as the the new Kanye Video (JUSTICE isn’t the 1st to do it either). Also DAFT PUNK sampled the sample that Kanye uses. Hip Hop is built on smaples from Tribe Called Quest to Beastie Boys (”Paul Revere”) to Afrika Baambataa (KRAFTWERK) to Dr. Dre (”Ain’t Nothin’ But A G Thang” is a sample as is “DOGGY DOG WORLD”) to Kanye. It is a part of hip hop, why? Because in ghettos people can not afford drum sets and guitars and amps and shit. It is a simple way to make the music. I think sampling actually revives classic material. More young people know about James Brown (most sampled artist out there) because of Hip Hop not due to the lack of hip hop. Same goes with Isaac Hayes, Gil Scott Heron, Herbie Hancock and more. Hell people in the hood now know who DAFT PUNK is. BTW if these artists who get sampled didn’t agrew with sampling they wouldn’t agree to have their music sampled. The whole culture of “DIGGIN’ IN THE CRATES” is lost uon hip hop and that is why for most it seems like “wow they sample”, ha.

The reason why people complain that SOUTH hip hop sucks is because it is people who can not read music trying to avoid paying sampling fees so they don’t sample, they whipp out a casio or Korg and do a simple beat with a simple pop or snap. They are avoiding sampling fees and honestly it is easy to make those type beats rather then chop up a sample. Also Kanye does all of his DRUM LINES which are the core of his music imo. He is solid with drum production, just like TIMBALAND is in his own right.
This is why u have to respect THE NEPTUNES because Chad and Pharrell really are musicians. They can go play anything they think of, i got madd respect for them for that. Also THE ROOTS.
