Info On THe New Jay-Z Album, “American Gangster,” Out This November
Jay-Z, the rap superstar and president of Def Jam Records, has quietly returned to the studio to record an album of new songs inspired by the forthcoming movie “American Gangster,” his first “concept” album and second CD in less than a year.
The album, which his label plans to release in early November, came together over the past few weeks after Jay-Z was shown the film, directed by Ridley Scott, in which Denzel Washington portrays Frank Lucas, a early 1970s Harlem heroin kingpin.
In an hourlong telephone interview, Jay-Z, 37, who has spoken of spending his early years in Brooklyn both rapping and drug dealing, said that the movie had tremendous resonance for him and had sparked a burst of creative activity that even he found surprising. He has already recorded nine tracks, almost every one prompted by a specific scene.

Personally, Kingdom Come was a solid album for my ears. He had some high quality tracks “Lost Ones”, “Beach Chair”, “30 Something”, “Dig a Hole”, “Trouble”. So its a new Jay-Z (as we all change as), but still strong.
We expect so much from Jay and others like Nas, Eminem etc…….so lets see what he got up his sleeve.

If ‘Boss Hova’ sounds like anything from the Golden era of Hip hop (reasonable doubt to Blueprint) then we have a lot to look forward to. Hopefully by that he means he will be getting WAYYYYY more lyrical and less commercial, but we’ll see.

The only problem I had with Kingdom Come was that the mixes were too loud. As Jay says, Kingdom Come was too sophisticated for some listeners so most of you did not get it.
For any other rapper it would be classic material.

Alot of people like to use the michael jordan analogy talking about jay Z. I look at kingdom come like the short year wher jay z first returned and they got jacked up in the playoffs after penny stole the ball of J. Jordan came back the next year with 23 and won a ring. Kingdom Come is Jay in the 45, hopefully this is his return to the 23.

Kingdom Come (to me) was a great album, the lyrical content was great and he had really good production as well.
As far as content goes, Jay had to grow up at some point guys; you couldn’t expect Kingdom Come to sound like Reasonable Doubt, because he had grown up since then. He couldn’t come back talking about pushing weight and all that — we know he wasn’t doing that on his yachts with Beyonce.
This album though, its a concept album, sort of like a soundtrack based on the movie, so the content can go outside of what Shawn Carter really does.
