I cant even front, I grew up in the same era of hiphop as ol boy above me, although he clearly has Eastcoast bias, u Cant forget Pac, Pharcyde, Souls of mischief, Cube, Dogg pound etc. etc. etc. But as far as this is concerned, I mean hiphop has always had dance songs that were hot. Remember the Tootsie roll? runnin man?, roger rabbit? etc. the only diff. is there was more balance.
