Stop The Madness: Racism Shows It’s Face In The Jena 6 Case
An all-White jury convicted Bell of two felonies—aggravated battery and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery—and faces up to 22 years in prison when he is sentenced on July 31. Five other young Black males are also awaiting their day in court for alleged attempted second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit second-degree murder charges evolving from a school fight: Robert Bailey, 17; Theo Shaw, 17; Carwin Jones, 18; Bryant Purvis, 17; and Jesse Beard, 15. Together, this group has come to be known as the “Jena 6.”
It’s a long read, but a very interesting case. In a mostly white neighborhood, racial tension between blacks & whites has boiled over. Black students decided to sit in an area usually occupied by white students, the next day nooses were hanging from the same area. An obvious sign that blacks were not welcome. The white students found guilty of the despicable act only got a 3-day suspension and it was just called a, “prank.” Sounds more like a hate crime to me.
This incident and a lack of appropriate suspension increased the animosity between black and white students, leading to a few altercations. In one incident 6 black males allegedly attacked a white male who was using the N-word and antagonizing black students. These student got extremely harsh charges & were giving very expensive bails. One student was found guilty even though none of the witnesses can even verify he was involved in the attack.
A case of a racist town being biased doesn’t get any more evident than this case. In one of the incidents a student went for a gun but wasn’t charged with anything. I am glad the Internet allows stories like this to become national and hopefully people with power can make a change.

Putting a noose up and whipping someone’s ass are two different things. Since WE don’t run shit, we need to fight smarter not harder. There has got to be a way to antagonize the white guys without touching them. They could have talked about how much white women love black men, etc. They could have had the white boy crying from words alone…that’s clearly what the white boy did.

#3 and #6 — the white kid [and friends] had jumped some of the black kids about a week b4 the black kids jumped the white kid. one of the white kids was only charged with assault. the same white kid involved in the jena 6 case had also pulled a shotgun out on the black kids. when they wrestled the gun away, the black kids were charged with theft [of the weapon] and the white kid was charged with posession on a school property [or something like that]. its fairly obvious that the law is not being interpreted the same in regards to the white and black children in this case. there is a lot more info than what realtalk posted. overall its a real fucked up situation, and i have been following it since i first heard the story.

also im not saying that the black kids should get off scott free for jumping the white kid. but what i am saying is that they should receive fair and normal punishment and not be tried as adults for 2nd degree attempted murder.
The worst they should get is probation or community service for some bullshit like this, not years in prison. This the type of stuff that shatters people faith in the system This type of stuff gets me mad, the system shouldnt play with they lives like that.

Decent story, although it is only one side to be fair. If it’s true, that’s racism in America- we still got a long way to go.
However, I DISagree w/ the Duke Lacrosse comment since they were actually innocent.
This is the kind of story that makes me mad. What makes me even more mad is the fact that I feel powerless. How can this not be news? On what planet is this not newsworthy? Let a white girl go missing though and it’s on every news channel 24/7. Is that not the definition of hypocrisy? Something needs to be done about this.
I have an idea. The owner of this blog has already brought this matter to peoples attention, and that is a good starting point. I know this may sound like it is coming from left field, but I urge the owner to hear me out.
If you have the capacity, why do you not open a political section/forum on the site. You already have a very healthy platform [I am sure you get several thousand hits per day... I know I am on the site everyday like clockwork :)]. Post stories like these, and other political stuff and let people debate them. Provide people with information about registering to vote, and urge them to do it, because frankly, the politicians do not give a fuck about people who do not vote. Once you have their attention, then they have no choice but to dance to the music of your choice. You will then be able to confront them on issues like this story and ask them why this type of behavior is still accepted. I say accepted because the silence of the major news organizations on this matter is a form of tacit acceptance. If you have the will and the capacity to do this
you could view this as your civic duty.
Speaking more on the matter at hand, try starting a petition on your own site about this story. Try and bring it up in interviews if you can. Try to provoke a response. Maybe you have contacts who could help you raise awareness, because at the end of the day, information is the most powerful weapon in the world. Your only obligation would be to get the info out there… what people do with it is their business. If the petition gets enough support, you may then try to present it to more powerful people ie Al Sharpton (it really hurts me to say that, but he is one of the few people I can think of who would be willing to tackle this story, and actually has the access to get it on tv and radio). This is just an idea, and I know it is long, but I hope it does not get flamed.
Finally, we all need to remember one thing. If you want to be free, there is but one way; it is to guarantee an equally full measure of liberty to all your neighbors. There is no other way. When their rights have been trampled, yours have suffered the same fate. If you do not stand to fight for those rights, even when they have been disregarded in another’s case today, what stops those rights being snatched from your very fingers tomorrow…? Information is the weapon of choice. If they will not willingly apply the laws fairly and consistantly, SHAME them into doing what is right!
