RealTalkNY’s State Of The Union Address
RealTalkNY has been in existence for over a year as of August 3rd 2007. The first year wasn’t easy, it took me a miracle just to get comments on any post and manage to build a fanbase. I had no kind of industry connects or people backing me, just started everything dolo. After a year of networking and grinding the site has nearly 7 million hits and things are finally getting popping. So I want to thank all the fans, especially the ones that been down since the blogspot days. Props to the haters too, even though you guys may be bitter, you are still helping my stats.
So a lot of industry cats have been taking notice to the success of the site, including the record label, Rawkus Records. They approached me with a deal too good to pass up. Basically the site will still be promoted as RealTalkNY.net, but will link to RealTalkNY.Rawkus.com. They benefit from my traffic and a share in certain advertisement spots. I still have complete control over the site and can veto any ads I don’t feel are appropriate. So nothing changes besides the name on the mail and the money in the bank.
The most important part of the deal is it gives me the funds to make some major upgrades to the site and my equipment. So I am planning to redesign the site and take the site to the next level. It won’t be an overnight process, I need to make sure everything is perfect. So if there are any ideas and/or features you have for the new site, leave a comment expressing them. Of course I have notes from previous comments about things I should add to the new site.
I’m also looking for people to join the RealTalkNY team. Writers/Photographers/Graphic Designers etc. If you feel you have something to offer to the site, send me an email describing your capabilities and location(RealTalkNY@gmail.com). I am also looking to promote the site more, so if anyone is willing to help with marketing, send me an email.
Other issues:
*I know people are annoyed by the, “first,” comments but I can care less lol. I went from hoping someone would even leave a comment so I’m not mad at it. I may start deleting them if they say nothing about the topic though. Otherwise just ignore it, making comments about it makes people do it more.
*I don’t know why these 50 Cent & Kanye West fans are acting like bloods and crips. Some people are promoting them on the site like they are getting checks from record labels. We all know the date both of them come out, no need for reminders. No, I do not take sides and there is probably an equal amount of post about the two of them. Some people need to focus more on their own life and not people that don’t give a damn about them.
*I do notice a lot of ignorant comments on the site. People were at first complaining if I deleted comments and now are asking me to moderate more often. If your comment is nothing but a bunch of stupidity it will be deleted. If you can’t put an intelligent sentence together, you need not leave a comment.
If there are any other issues, you can leave a comment here so I can address them.

As far as ideas for the site.
I must say, highlighting unsigned talent would be great.
It would give the artist shine that they normaly would not
get. It would be cool to see the peoples reaction to
stuff.
I mean, like the unsigned artist of the week, displaying
maybe 3 songs, a myspace URL, a pic etc….
I bet the comment section would be a fun read.

What’s up Realtalk. Love the site. I never complained on this site. If there was an artist you highlighted that I didn’t like, I just didn’t post anything. My grandma always said If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say nothing at all. So that’s what I do. I’ve found your site in the search engine last summer. And I have been a loyal fan every since. I done put my cousins and girlfriend on to your site as well. We used to be fans of other sites, but this is our favorite site now. It’s not a biased regardless of the name (NY). I just figured you’re from NY. Its not easy taking nothing and making it into something. I understand because I rap (like every body else do now. LOL), so I give you props for elevating to the next level. And hopefully next year, it’ll be even bigger. Keep up the good work.

Please dont destroy this site with other shit content, just keep it plain and simple like it is, a big front page with shitload of news! A revamp of the site is always welcome but as I said before, keep it simple!

You have proven that even when the hip hop world seems so saturated and one can’t possibly make any more paper from it, that with some hard work, passion and determination, it can happen. Keep doin the good ur doin. When everyone else is slackin off with their sites, u keep givin and givin. I’m glad it’s paid off, and it’s about to pay off some more. I have realtalk on ’speed dial’. I don’t know if you have this feature but u shud consider makin a mobile version of this site. It would definitely b worth it.

Congrats. However, I hope reviews on Rawkus releases or reported drama will not get influenced by their involvement here. At the moment you have more credibility than them (esp given past Rupert Murdovh connects to the company) so the deal is pretty sweet for them as well.

Congratulations man. I’ve just recently started coming here to read news, and I’m hooked. It’s cool to read people’s comments on certain subject on the internet, then go to real people and ask them. A lot of times the reactions are totally different, but it’s good to see a lot of different perspectives. All wealth, health, and wisdom to ya.
I think what you could do is find a way to achieve the older posts because after a few days of the updates I find it harder to find them through the search field at times. Almost like on blogs like you can look at all the older post for just that month, or since you are a daily hip hop site maybe by weeks.
What I would recommend is no flash on the site except banners and ads because the content for the most I can view from my mobile and read everything.
Overall its a great site and I recommend it to everyone who likes hip hop.

Oh yeah more underground artists!!!! Theres more going on in NY than what 50 cent said and for the love of GOD Young Joc hardly qualifies as realtalkNY news. Nothing he or any of the other “artists ” at the shallow end of the talent pool does. More NY content. Artist like Silent Knight, Dirty Mac, (Canadian NY transplant) Eternia, Joel Ortiz, I could go on forever.
P.S. The way things are going now, tracking the current internet trend, You’ll get bought by Def Jam or Fox-Space, or Goo-Tube(LMAO!!!!)

As I said before, I love the site, I hate to see when something pure gets eaten up by big business, though I know Rawkus hardly qualifies as the corporate machine, but Please don’t change so much that its an annoyance to visit the site. I love options but some blog sites, Itfactor for example is overwhelming with its sections, I used to frequent this site closer to its inception, now I feel like theres too much and I’ll go later and I wind up never going. Keep this in mind:
You started this from nothing and made it what it is today and the people responded positively. What I’m asking is this, Please keep it as pure and as authentic as possible.(For the future) cuz I LOVED Myspace in 04-05, Liked it in 2006, 2007?….I mean, I still check my mailbox 3 times a week.
