Real Talk With Kia Shine: Much More Than Just Krispy
I came into the interview expecting Kia Shine to be a cocky guy, but he was quite the opposite. The man is very intelligent and religious. He was well informed on how the industry works and stated various quotes from the Bible during the interview. I knew he was smart because he had a job making serious bread before he made the switch to rapping. Kia Shine talks about where he is from and his long journey into the music business. At one point the man hit rock bottom, but managed to preserve and make something of himself. He also addresses people saying he has no substance and answers whether the clothes make the man. I put part 3 first because I thought it was the most interesting section.

It the record companies that support the south artist. They play with hip hop like if it were a toy.One day they want to support Mia, next day la, the after chi-town and it goes on. OK. Here’s my perspective on this whole South vs East “beef”. First of all I have experienced life in New York and life in Miamai and Atlanta. Let me just say that, Nobody wnats to hate each other in this rap game. Period. I don’t care about what any southern rappers or northern rappers say on these blogs or in their cities or on these songs. No one wnats to hate on each other. I think people are isinterpreting what the people are saying. At the end of the day, we are black and are trying to make money. The truth is that everybody wants that exceptance from each other. No one wants to feel isolated like we are now. The only places you can see unity like that is on shows like 106th and Park. On the streets people are just acting like haters. They don’t hate nobody for real. I be down south and I be hearing people bump New York music all the time. Don’t let these niggaz say that nobody bumps New York music down there. That is a fucking lie. Yes you southerners are liars and you know it. You might not play it in the clubs or on the radios, but ya’ll still play it in your cars, in house parties and everything. Yes you do. New York of course plays southern music cuz New York plays what’s hot at the moment. New York really doesn’t discriminate. But New York can say some nasty things when it comes on to southern music. But I feel like that is a sense of intimidation. New York diminated this music for so long that it’s not even a fucking joke. New York was the shit. Say what you want, but I think they wre the shit. I still think they are, but no one is paying attention. And that’s where the so called “beef” comes in. New York feels that just because no one os paying attention to them is cuz the people think they suck. That’s not true because I asked some southerners how they feel about this so called beef and most of them said that tehy listen to everything and they love New York. Some of them even broke out into old New York songs and dances. It’s not even a joke. They just feel like they are a compliement to New York for what they’ve done for hip hop. They just feel like they are trying to do things that have never been done before. So to New York, the only people in the south that have beef with you are these rappers and the selceted few bloggers. People are just too busy enjoying the music to argue. I went o my friends house in Atlanta, and he was playing some Nas and Jay Z. I asked him if he like New York hip hop, he said that he loves New York. He doesn’t know why there is a beef goin on but he just likes to stay away from that negativity becuase it spoils the deeper music experience. This whole beef thing is overrated and the people that are beefing don’t even matter. Cuz either they can’t rap, don’t know about hip hop culture, are no involved in the hip hop bussiness or don’t sell records. AKA UGK. No matter how much I love them, they are just promoting this beef way too much with stuff like the Quit Hatin The South record. I have not heard of any real New York record that has really been a shot towards the south. Outkast don’t matter cuz their favorite hip hop Group (Tribe Called Quest) is from New York anyway. And they got bigger when they told New York that the south got something to say back in I think 94. If they didn’t say that, they probably wouldn’t be big. New York has to realize that they are the target. Everyone is always trying to cater to New York. If you can hit New York with a huge blow, you will make it big. Look at Snoop Dogg when he said Fuk New York in New York. When the West beefed with the east, they blew up. The same with the south. Because aint no one in New York really dissed the south before. The south thought that New York did and that’s when New York was backed into a corner. Now because the north got decived by the south, they running things. And that’s what New York is mad about. Every beef they get into, they get decieved. Look at the east vs west. That beef really started with the west. But it wasn’t a blow that hit hard like how New York hit back and that’s all people recognized. When you think about it, that whole east west thing started with people like Eazy E. They were the ones that really started it, but New York hit the West hard and that’s what people beilved started the rivalry. I’m just sayin all of this to say that BEEF IS OVERRATED and this whole regioal thing is why hip hop is dead. Everyone think that they control everything. The south thinks they killed new york, new york think that they are the only ones that can do hip hop and the list goes on. That’s why we are in the position we are in today. We don’t band together and say that we are all hip hop whenever we get critized from people like Oprah. We rather say fuck everybody instead of say every body come together so we can fuck all the ousiders up. HIP HOP NEEDS WORLD WIDE UNITY. It would be cool to see Nas do a song with TI.
