He explains, “Music is boring right now. I’m too innovative for the world. I’ve been doing it so long, I’m about to throw in the towel.
I’m about to de-crown myself and pass it over to one of the up-and-coming producers under me. They won’t be able to be me – there’s only one Timbaland – but there’s a certain sound that I try to teach.”

This is why he’s “retiring.” If you notice, every few years Timbaland fades out a little bit, and then comes back with some phenomenal shit. (Eventually, everything always sounds the same like it is now.) This time, (with the help of Danja) Timbaland says, “you know what, I’m about to try to blow myself up.” He felt like he wasn’t getting the respect he deserved. He said he’s going to take over pop radio. It would start with Nelly Furtado, then Justin Timberlake, and then all will help usher himself in. Even after a #1 single, with the help of NF and JT, he still feels he’s not getting the respect and recognition he deserves. His album had lackluster reviews and sales, while Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake sold.
I do agree with Timbaland in that production in the music world is boring.
I feel the reason Timbaland hasn’t garnered as much acclaim (not necessarily attention because we all know who he is) is because he produces songs that really lack substance. Although they might have tight beats, they aren’t saying much. Therefore, fans and listeners don’t take his music seriously. Tight beats don’t win grammy’s.
