This trend is all over the worlds and "light" is preferred in most cultures. (Indian, Spanish, Asian, African
American). Now we can blame slavery, but why do the other cultures prefer it that way too?? Why is that?? If you've researched other cultures, such as Indian, all their movie stars are so fair skinned that they really look like pale hispanics and in Asia, men seek out pale women who look like little porcelain dolls. This a phenomenon of the world but why is that?? Even with Caucasions, they love the blonde haired child with blue eyes. It's not just us, everyone should think about this silly obsession.

Beauty is Beauty Regardless same as Black is Black. I think this issue still exists but I think society is realizing beauty is not 1 dimensional. Personally I think Kelly is way PREETIER than Beyonce, Beyonce is madeup, it's the makeup doing the work but she has a nice body. Kelly can't sell because she doesn't have the 'IT' factor. Alot of people say I'm preety/gorgeous or I should be a model and I'm dark skinned. I get guys from ALL races but... I've been noticing I get more white guys? Anyways, let's not stress about this B.S. We are beautiful black people. EXS;Stacy Dash and Naomi Campbell are gorgeous Megan Good is Very Preety, Iman and Kerry Washington are beautiful Vanessa Willims.OVERRATED-Halle Berry!

KELLY IS PRETTIER THAN BEYONCE. SHE NEEDS TO GIVE ME A BREAK. THE REASON SHE CAN'T GET COVERS IS CAUSE SHE AIN'T SELLING RECORDS. BEFORE HER THERE WAS BRANDY AND THAT BITCH DOES NOT HAVE THE EEUROPEAN FEATURES THAT KELLY HAS. AND NOW THERE'S CIARA WHO IS NOT LIGHT SKINNED AND SHE'S DOING HER THING. KELLY NEEDS TO ACCEPT THE FACT THAT SHE'S NOT THE BUSINESS AND FALL BACK. NOONE WANTS TO SUPPORT AN ASSKISSER. GET A BACKBONE AND NEW MANAGEMENT AND MAYBE, YOU'LL GET A COVER OR SELL HALF A MILLION OR GO PLATNUM LIKE LATOYA, WHO REALLY HAD A DISADVANTAGE.

YAWN^^^^^^^^^^^Here we go again with this bullshit.

Glock and a few other people said it correct. Why are ya'll letting whites or other ignorant black folks validate your beauty? Black is Beautiful no matter what. Everybody knows that, we are the most envied race of all but instead black people envy each other.

I've notice nobody said anything negative about LisaRaye. Why because they couldn't she's a beautiful women whether she's light, dark, brown don't matter. She was the shit.
Even though I notice even a dime gets hated on like Beyonce, Esther Baxter, Kelly, Buffy, Mya etc.

My point is if you are the shit, than you the shit regardless of complexion. Black people come in many different shades. Get over yourself niggaz. lol

Well everyone's perception of what dark is, is different, because I would consider everyone I stated as dark.

When you hear a white woman describe their preference in men as tall, dark and handsome...they are NOT talking about a black man...they are talking about the complexion of another white man.

LIKE I SAID, EVERYONE'S PERCEPTION OF WHAT IS CONSIDERED DARK IS DIFFERENT.

And I do LOVE dark skinned black men, dont like the light skinned brotha’s to much. They look gay (my opinion).

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

lol, very interesting statment. Its like some of these dudes saying they only like light skin girls because other girls are too dark, uglier etc. You gotta get rid of this mentality. Not all lighter skin dudes look the same. I dont know how light skinned you are talking about, so your saying TI and lloyd banks, and ludacris look gay, aint they lightskinned?

Your tryning to make it seem like all light skin dudes are some pretty soul glo wearing muthafuckas. hahhaaaaa, that couldn’t be farther form the truth. Even that nigga Larry Hoover is lightskinned.

@39 Glock replying.

I see you quoted my statement about light skinned men, and how they look gay to me. Well yes, in my opinoin luda,ti and banks do look kinda gay, So sorry to say. I said I dont like them to much but, some of them dont always look gay to me,just most of them.

It doesn't matter what you look like after tanning. I would never describe Stacey Dash and Amerie as darkskinned. Especially not Stacey. This is the first time I've heard anyone call Stacey Dash darkskinned.

But, to me, I was taught, if you get darker than a brown paper bag in the summer after tanning you are dark. Amerie/Stacey Dash/Anonda Lewis/Chilli are all cooli complected...and I consider them ALL dark. Kelly is dark but is a different kind of dark because she is more chocolate complected, but she is still the same dark complexion as the aforementioned. NE ways...you people make a big deal out of complexions, because dark is dark and light is light...no in between. In the summer when I get away to my parent's spot...I STAY at the beach baking/tanning in the sun everyday for at 3 hrs a day. I love the complexion I get in the summer and I think the darker I get the better, I even go to tanning salons sometimes in the winter months, to keep that glow. It doesn't change the perception people have of me, to the least bit. My hair is the texture/length of Ananda Lewis, so when I go out people confuse me for a number of different nationalities, even in the summer, but I STILL consider myself DARK and proud of it. My dad EVEN considers him self dark and he isn't even black!

You people are too nitpicky and if I thought like you people did I would be considered lightskinned in the winter and reddish/bronze/brown skinned in the summer...but to me that is DARK, and I love it. Being too color conscious is NEVER A good look.
