NAACP Buries The N Word, What A Waste Of Time
The NAACP had a public event where they symbolically buried the N-Word. It seems pretty pointless to me. This ceremony will have no effect on how rappers use the word or even deter the public to use the word. Maybe it would be for the best for people not to use the N-word but it really isn’t that serious. There are too much problems in this world to worry about the N-word. The hood won’t all of a sudden become a better place if people stop saying the N-word.
“I heard somebody say that when (rapper) Jay-Z talks about hos, he gets a gold record. When Don Imus talks about hos, he gets fired,” Bond said. “We believe in equal justice and equal justice for everyone.”
This statement was made by the chairman of the NAACP. People will not let this Don Imus thing go I see. How can you compare a rapper to a sports commentator. They work under different standards and censorship. Rappers clearly have more freedom in terms of language and subject matter. A sports commentator isn’t suppose to be talking about the appearance of players and calling them offensive names. Trying to compare the two is silly.

the ncaap are morons, and they are wasting their time. when did we give them the mandate to speak for all of us? that is what really annoys me about all this crap. we see it on tv everyday, yet we do nothing about it. whenever someone wants to pose a question to the black community, they get jesse jackson and al sharpton and ask them… as if they are the end all and be all of black america… wtf is that about? are those really the symbols of black america? if they are, we have bigger problems to keep us occupied than the “n-word”. (i respect what those two did for the civil rights movements, and as such, i do not say these things to denegrate them, but they need to understand they do not speak for all of us. we are not all sheep, and they certainly are not masters. treating them as such is the more ignorant and racist than any word can ever be.)
one more thing about the “n-word”. a word is only as powerful as u let it be. stop giving it that much power! look at it this way. the only way that word would hurt me would be if i really did believe we as african americans are somehow inferior to white america. i know that is not the case, so it doesn’t hurt me. if someone was to call me a nigger, i would laugh in their face and ask them how stupid they were to believe that word would hurt me. this is 2007 man!!!!! the power that word had died a long time ago. don’t ever let yourself be defined by the words an ignoramus uses! we should be bigger than any complexes or perceived complexes we have.
that’s my word!
July 9th, 2007 at 8:01 am
The NAACP has fallen off. They haven’t been looked at as socially relevant since the days of Medgar Evers(Go Google it numbskulls). Nobody’s banning jack. For a ban to exist, there has to be grassroots support from people and nobody’s checking for the NAACP. OK, enough of my soapbox…back to regularly scheduled ranting…

There shouldn’t be two sets of standards for Censorship. Penalties show be distributed across the board. No matter what your occupation is (i.e. Sports radio host or rapper) you should be self conscious of what is being said. If Jay-z Called hockey players “Crackers on Ice” you know the media would rain down on him the same way they did Imus.
I love hip hop but the language that identifies them needs to change. I agree with The NAACP
July 9th, 2007 at 9:14 am
what does the N word have to do with Imus? he said nappy headed hoes and last i checkes hoes came in all flavors
July 9th, 2007 at 9:27 am
i dont like when they try to compare him to a rapper with the whole thing of ho’s when jay z says hoe’s he is talking about women with hoe tendency’s. one’s who f*** on the first day or just to get money out of sonmeone…things like that, but when Imus was refering to hoes he was talking about young black women who are doing something for thereself…there in college playing basketball which is a great accomplishment at the level…they also are planning to become teachers, engineers, accounts and so on…..i think Imus was wrong….listen to the jay-z song where he is talking about B****’s and ladies..
July 9th, 2007 at 9:34 am
Nah son, the NAACP is totally wrong. Jay-Z will talk about hoes and get a Plat Album!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holla, its the rock Niggas!
July 9th, 2007 at 9:43 am
How did we let them change the subject, so to speak, from Don Imus’ words to an attack on Hip-Hop? Successful use of distraction and redirection.
July 9th, 2007 at 9:49 am
I WILL CONTINUE TO SAY NIGGA, WHEN APPROPRIATE, AND WILL CONTINUE CHASING WHITE BOYS UP THE STREET WITH A BAT FOR SAYING IT. I DON’T CARE IF YOU BUY A HUNDRED HIP HOP ALBUMS..I WILL CHASE ONE OF YOU MOTHERFUCKERS DOWN THE BLOCK IF YOU EVER SAY IT IN MY FACE. I’M PRETTY SURE WHITE BOYS WILL CONTINUE TO SAY IT IN PRIVATE.
Now that settles that.
I’m not stupid…yall did reverse psychology in Niggas. All this shit was a smoke screen so black people would go after SEINFELD, and the beloved Kramer.
Great work on the spin,(that’s why they pay you the big bucks huh?) You might be right, some niggas are dumb….”but not I” said the smart cat.

To Chris:
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t jay-z is an entertainer? He is not a commentator. A commentator speaks or comments on life, or in Don Imus’s case sports. Jay-Z is not held accountable for what he says on a rap record because there is an assumption made in art (be it music, movies, literature etc.) that they are created to entertain and make people think. Commentators, on the other hand, do not have the benefit of this assumption because they are not creating art, they are simply giving their opinion. This is why the argument that Imus and rappers ought to be held to the same standard is false. If Jay-Z, or another rapper, were to say something offensive outside the context of a rap song, then there is not that assumption and therefore should be looked at with more scrutiny. This is why when Jay-Z is interviewed you don’t’ hear him say “ho” this and “ho” that.

Before the Kramer Richards, Don Imus’ incidents there was “Bury that Sucka” A Scandalous Love Affair With the N-word. Published: August 2005 much of today’s turn of events relative to the n-word was foreseen. To learn more go to http://www.burythatsucka.com

The NAACP(an organization that I happen to be a member of) has leaders of an older generation, people who were called nigger in a derogatory fashion. The word will never lose its negativity to them because its always going to mean hate. While I don’t agree with them pulling this funeral mess, I understand why they would do it…nigga is nigger, regardless of its connotations.
Unfortunately, the NAACP is no longer relevant with our generation and we need to work on that. I’m a member because I see the power in a organization for our people. But I can honestly admit that a disconnect exist between the NAACP and our generation. In reality, I haven’t seen Black people so disjointed in my life.
I, personally, don’t use the word because it makes some people sound really ignorant at times. People can’t even put sentences together without saying the word. Grown people using the word around young children and in the wrong places. That’s my issue. I can’t tell you what to say in your home or around your people, but please watch who you say it in front of.
Its a matter of choice, whether you want to use the word or not.

I hope people really aren’t stupid enough to really think …….. a rapper and a sports commentator referring to all women as hoes is different…………
a hoe is a hoe….
a lady is a lady…

July 10th, 2007 at 5:41 am
To 401K:
I Understand what you are saying, but your commment is the end result that the NAACP is trying to change. You said that because Jay-Z is a rapper then people are going to assume taht he will say certain things. BUT 401k, just because we expect and assume he will say certain words and phrases does not mean that we should accept them, and promote them. ESPECIALLY if they are degrading. Youv’e heard these words over and over and accepted them as a form of art, which is understandable. But every form of art, even if it is a personal form of expression, is not acceptable. I don’t care what position in life you have(entertainer or sports announcer) people need to be aware of what come out of there mouth.
July 10th, 2007 at 10:46 am
My question to the NAACP is this, when New Orleans was buried under a sea of water and our brothers and sisters bodies laid in the streets for weeks where the hell were they then? You know who I saw on the news helping? Mostly white people!! I don’t remember seeing any reps from the NAACP at the superdome when the madness was happening and now they want to hold a march and bury a fucking word?? NIGGAS PLEASE!
July 11th, 2007 at 5:04 am
the naacp is late as usual, the horse has left the barn. they should of been protecting brother Malcolm when they had the chance. now they have the opportunity of protecting the reincarnation of Malcolm - Obamma. so get on your job and get behind the brother and step into the present, nigga.
July 11th, 2007 at 5:10 am
I agree Jay Z and everyone else says it and you run buy their album but some old white man say it and you get mad. Why? Come on Jesse Jackson stop trippin you know you got Tupacs greatest hits bumpin in your car. And I know Al Sharpton bound to have a Jay-Z CD up in there somewhere. Ya’ll just as guilty as the next man. Afterall Jesse do got other kids out there that ain’t his wifes…….so all I can say is NIGGA PLEASEEEEE NIGGA PLEASEEEE NIGGA PLEASEE PLEASEE PLEASEEE!!! LoL
July 11th, 2007 at 9:39 am
how ignorant are u? have you ever heard of symbolism. The black community really needs to educate itself about the history of the word Nigger and perhaps then they would be just a little reluctant to use it as a term of endearment. No, it is not acceptable for a white man to call us nigger because we recognize that his use of the term comes from a dark place, so why is it entertaining and accepted when we call each other Nigga.
July 11th, 2007 at 9:41 am
NIGGER,NIGGER, NIGGER, SAY IT A HUNDRED TIMES MAKE MY TEETH WHITE.NAACP BEEN SITTING ON THEIR ASS’S FOR A LONG TIME,NOW YOU WANT TO BE HEARD???………. YOU WANT TO BURY A STUPID WORD???………….WHAT CANT FIND NOTHING TO DO THATS POSTIVE??? ………….SIT YOUR COON ASS DOWN, STUPID NIGGERS
July 11th, 2007 at 11:00 am
The NAACP has simply become another opportunist group capitalizing on our issues. They show up where there is publicity. But please keep in mind that the NAACP is no longer a “Black” org. It is financed by Jews therefore it is a Jewish org so there is no reason to ask ourselves why it is no longer relevant. It is no longer US.
We cried for whites to stop using the word for well over 200 years. Now that the word means little there is this unified outrage? Better late than ever? No. It is white people saying HOW DARE YOU USE THAT WORD IN A NON-DEMEANING WAY, HOW DARE YOU TAKE THE POWER OUT OF OUR HANDS…
Although, I deleted the word from my vocab at 18, F white people and F the NAACP.
July 11th, 2007 at 4:16 pm
I work with people in the human family every day. People, our human family is hurting. The N word is not the reason either. We are hurting because there is no true Love. True Love is to Love God and others like yourself.
To Love your Mother, Father, Wife, Children, Sisters, Brothers and others is to Love and Honor God. I pray we honor God and the Light of the Universe that shines inside everyone of us. Let nothing get between you and God’s Love. God’s Love is so beautiful. If every one on the face of the earth stop using the N word tomorrow, we will still be hurting. To stop the pain: Love somebody in Spirit and Truth, even the NAACP, because they are misguided souls.
I pray we continue to thrive in Love, Life, Truth, Peace, Knowledge, Wisdom and Understanding

It is such a shame that ignorance among our race continues to grow. It is because of the people during the civil rights movement that we can even get on this computer and type our opinions. There have been so many of our people who have died and who have been beaten just so we can have certain rights that should have been given to us by the constitution (Oh yeah, we weren’t even considered a whole individual).
Now getting to the “N” word. The funeral was more symbolic than anything. It is an attempt to get OUR race to stop using the word because of the way that it was used against us “back in the day”. It was a derogatory term that made our ancestors feel like nothing.
So why would we want to use it and teach our children to use it against one another?
If one is not satisfied with the people that speak for us then I think it is time for some of our young brothers and sisters to step up and step out and speak up. Are you young folks willing to do that? Let’s work together instead of against each other people!
July 11th, 2007 at 7:26 pm
my momma told me this and i was like “who?, get outta here”..people gon steal use tha word…and yea it prob. was done on a mental note but we all kno tha deal…negro pleaze!
July 11th, 2007 at 10:01 pm
the word is deeply rooted in the black community…like it or not its true….
so instead of stopping the word from being used, they are better off, TRULY taking away the power from it..
i cant imagine a better feeling, when some racist white person calls me a nigger…and im not affected at all…
that’ll hurt them more than anything…
July 13th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
ARE U FUKIN SERIOUS?? WOW I HONESTLY DONT CARE WHO SAYS THE N WORD OR HOW THEY SAY IT BECUZ TO BE PERFECTLY HONEST WITH ALL YALL WHITE PPL WE ARENT GOING ANY WHERE LOVE US OR HATE US….WE MAKE THE FUKIN COUNTRY WE KEEP IT STRONG, WE KEEP IT DIVERSE, WE DO THE STUFF NO ONE ELSE WANTS TO DO, AND U WONDER WHY MOST OF US ARE SO “GHETTO”?? “GHETTO” TO YOU IS HAPPINESS FOR US, “GHETTO” TO YOU IS EXPRESSION AND FREEDOM TO US…BLACK PPL CAN BURY THE N WORD ALL THEY WANT BUT TRUTH BE TOLD WHITE PPL WILL BE CALLING US NIGGERS BEHIND OUR BACKS TILL THE END OF TIME BECUZ IN THE END THATS ALL WE ARE TO THEM…
P.S. LOOK UP THE “N” WORD BECAUSE WHITE PPL ARE NIGGERS JUST AS MUCH AS BLACK PPL!!x
July 14th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
Some of these remarks are due to a lack of knowledge and pride in who you are. I don’t care for the NAACP because they’re just black entertainers. How do take power from the “NIGGA” word, by standing up and demanding respect for your people. White people may call you nigga behind your back but at least they’re afraid to say it to your face. That’s the power of respect. We’ve turned away from our rich and glorious history and are living like heathens in a foreign land. Until we return home like the “prodical son” and seek our glory, we will never rise up against oppression
July 16th, 2007 at 7:33 pm
I am sadden for my Black Sisters and Brothers if they truly believe it’s okay to use the word and especially if they allow anyone to use it in relation to themselves. With this head in the sand attitude we are destined to live the persecution again! Don’t say it can’t happen; we need to safeguard what others have fought and gave their lives for in order that we could even be so ignorant as to say “It’s just a word” It’s not just a word, it’s a desecration of an entire race, my race and I’m ashamed of all who use the word and feel it doesn’t hurt anyone. It hurts, it hurts my ancestors, it hurts me and it hurts all Black people. To disregard it as nothing doesn’t make one numb to what it’s doing; I’m sorry it makes one, dumb to allow it. Other nationalities understand demoralization, how can Blacks not get it? “Least we forget”
