You have different kinds of people. You have people that are extremely book smart that lack common sense so they don’t know what’s going to affect their audience. They have more information than me based on reading. For instance, Nas is a really smart guy. He reads books constantly. We were around him on the Nastradamus tour. He was almost weirder than me ’cause we would go to breakfast and he’d be there reading a book. Conceptually, I think that’s what made him drift away from what his initial audience enjoys from him and why he’s not hot right now.

lol, we got some characters up here…the people who said 50 needs to read soundscan are dumb because he will undoubtedly sell more than any rap album that came out since his last one…50 is on his way to breaking the all time most hip hop albums sold record, so how could you tell him to read soundscan? What i did not like in this interview was that i am 31 (and all your favorite rappers are in my age group) and I want some form of knowledge. Your right, Nas will probably go down ahead of 50 as far as top 10 rappers when it comes to lyrical content. But its a difference between the money 50 and Jay-z have compared to Nas and Jada.
So in 10yrs or 50yrs, while 50 cents grand kids are living off of what he made while he was hot. Lets just hope that Nas grandson will be able to do the same.
Hip hop is a billion dollar industry now so lets keep in mind that all these rappers want to make money. Some are willing to do things that others refuse to. I remember Nas was complaining a few years ago about getting 90 cents per album from his Sony deal. Sounds like he may have been reading the wrong books during breakfast.

What most of the people here don’t seem to understand (from what I’ve read thus far) is that 50 makes lots of money off of the ignorance that he himself helps perpetuate and he works it to a perfect cycle. He is just like the big corporations. Through various means (mostly media in 50’s case) he keeps people shackled to a perverted vision of HipHop and what people believe is HipHop and he keeps people thinking it’s ‘hot’ and it’s what they need. They believe this is the norm, the standard, the truth.. and do absolutely nothing to stop it. They can’t do anything, as they do not know any better. They lack the means and the know-how to awaken from their pathetic slumber. He laughs to anyone that will listen about the tons of money he makes (which to be fair, is a lot) and the stans can’t help but stand nex to him laughing along.. Not realising he is laughing at them, because THEY are the ones paying the tons of money which buys him exotic cars, clothes, jewelry, women and mansions. While they just end up with mediocre beats and garbage lyrical content. What do they get from 50 being rich? More songs about him being rich.. And the cycle continues. Most rappers you could say make good to great money. Meaning they make more than the average joe could ever hope to, on an average and in only a few years. Even if a dude only sales enough records to cop $500k-1M.. That is still a lot of money that can be used wisely and build to something more meaningful and something that could guarantee a comfortable life. Start a business, pay for school, drop it in the bank, make wise investments.. NAS has made enough money in his career to be set for life and if you think it won’t last a generation or two, you really do lack the proper perspective. So, it comes down to what does 50 have that NAS don’t have? More money? So what.. NAS has money, enough to buy most things he could ever want. Yet, NAS still puts out content that for the most part is meant to better his audience. While 50 stays keeping people in a kind of daze, feeding them garbage and making them think it’s steak and lobster. Kind of like the Opium wars between England and China. England flooded the Chinese populace with opium and got them addicted to it. They were stuck in a daze and went about their lives slaving away in the fields making England richer and richer. Someone finally woke up and fought back, eventually leading to a war(s) and China breaking the vicious cycle.
So, clear you minds Stans.. Because this is going to be a little hard for you to swallow..
50 is good at making money (in fact, he’s great at it). There is no denying that he is almost unmatched when it comes to drive and motivation (Jay-Z/Tupac/Biggie/Puffy). The issue I have is with how he chooses to use his power. You stans steady keep buying his albums on automatic while he gets more money. What does he provide that you’d be willing to part with your money (and stop fronting, because you ain’t rich, keep it real). Is it deep in any way? Does it provide any insight? Does he tell YOU how to make money? All I seem to recall is him being a snitch, taking cheap shots at other artists to sell albums, putting JaRule on blast for making songs for chicks and then him turning around a doing the same.. Singing about rollercoasters, candy shops and the like. Where’s the originality, the effort to really entertain you? Do you like settling for bubblegum/pop rap? He claims to not be in the hood nomore when artists call him on it, only to turn around and rap that he sprays AR15s and being a hood monster. He never got shot 9 times, he got shots at 9 times being struck 3 times. That’s why he ain’t never going to show his legs, no scars to show for it.
End Rant/HipHop is dead. Time for a rebirth.

actually, 50 says he reads, and he reads a lot. he’s a fan of general philosophy, war philosophy, etc, and other fiction and non fiction works. 50 is known for quoting “the 48 laws of power” by Robert Greene throughout his music and interviews. in fact, he and Robert Greene are working on the “50 laws of power”, which will show mr. greene’s laws in relation to the power struggles within the hood. if you have never read his work, i would recommend it, it is very enlightening and not for the weak at heart.

BUT, like Jay-Z said “Honestly I wana rap like Common Sense, but I did 5 and I ain’t been rappin’ like Common Sense”. In essence, he said what 50 said, but Jay is much less confrontational than 50. They get to the same finish line but in different ways.
A LOT of people understand what Nas is saying, but are just uninterested. Who wants to come home from school or work all day and get “schooled” to the point of disinterest? Jay-Z is one of the only ones who found a way to be cleaver about it. Nas…..NOT!!! Nas is no smarter than the next man just cuz he reads. He was on a GREAT track for himself then changed up mid course and lost the rest of the train. Unlike Lupe Fiasco, and others I named, he started out Gangsta and then changed up abruptly, not gradually. 2. The nigga has been out for at LEAST 15 years and has very little to show for it. He has publishing and that’s about it. Jay-Z and 50 have ran CIRCLES around him financially and made other opportunities for their camp. Nas….his camp…..?

I don’t believe anyone said HOV is wack, EVER!!! I know I haven’t. I just didn’t enjoy his last album and it is about the only one in his whole career that I don’t have on repeat. So what! Even if that is the case HOV is still worth $547 million LIKE I SAID. (im sure it was googled, lol), so it’s not affecting that net worth.
But, if those stats are correct (I haven’t the time to google, lol)…if:
$200 million = $83 million after taxes
then
$100 million = $41.5 million after taxes
and, I was definately giving 50 too much credit.
HOV = $547 million
CURTIS = (almost)$200 million, $191.5 million to be precise. (after taxes lol.)
HOV is ALMOST 3 times richer than CURTIS then. My mistake. lol. GOOGLE IT!
