LOL @ An 80 Year Old Blaming Rap Music For Using The N-Word
The longtime chairman of the Roger Williams University board admitted Monday to using the N-word during a board meeting, saying it “kind of slipped out.”
Papitto, 80, who stepped down earlier this month after nearly 40 years on the board, admitted he had used the racial slur at a May meeting of the school’s board of trustees. Barbara Roberts, then a board member, said Papitto became irate when he discussed pressures to make the board more diverse, at one point using the slur to refer to black candidates to the board.
The first time I heard it was on television or rap music or something,” he told WPRO.
Come on man, your 80 years old, what rap music are you really listening too. If you don’t use a word consistently it doesn’t, “slip,” out.

Not that it matters, but why are people on him fopr using that word and don’t care when rappers say it maybe 25 times per album, 3 times in their interviews and maybe 10 times in their sleep.
Change starts at home.
Still, old man is still wrong for using it and even moreso for saying he heard it in a rap song, lol.

it really doesn’t matter if the guy in question listens to hip hop or not, this is just a defense he and people like him will be able to use untill black people stop using the word. it’s almost like when black people get pulled over by the cops, and they say “i got pulled over because i’m black.” but in all actuality,they got pulled over because they were speeding. but that doesn’t change the fact that some blacks do get pulled over because they are black. and some white people do use the N word because of rap music

Yes our ancestors was killed for that word but it is us who give words power. words don’t mean anything unless we make them come to life. those who persecuted our ancestors gave the word its life. agree with realtalkny…..if he does not use the word consistently it does not slip out. then he tried to throw rap music and there along with tv. common sense he is 80, he heard the word way before rap and probably uses the word amongst his “peers” in private. He messed up and should just man up.

The word can be taken in completely different context depending on the spelling. So I disagree its not the same. Historically your right, but in present time it is a friend or foe term. He didnt use it like a friend lol.

It is indeed an ugly day when the community feels it can justify THEIR wrong doing by placing hip hop as a ‘Scape Goat’. Too many times have I seen freedom of ARTISTS infringed through the placement of blame. This has to stop. It never used to be like this… be a man stand up for your screw ups.

This dude was wrong and found an easy scapegoat. Aint no damn way he has lived in America of all places for 80 years and not heard this word or a regular basis at some point in his life.
But,I’m kinda starting to of agree with how older black people like my mother feel about the word. Eminem doesn’t use the N word on his albums and he sold 70 million records off of talent in a short time. Why can’t black artist’s stop using it in their raps and see what kind of success they have. R&B music is a successful form of black music and they are successful as well.
I didn’t notice it @ the time, but Chamillionair didn’t curse 1 time on his last album and it went PLATINUM plus!!! My point is, it is possible to change the venacular and still be successful in music.
I know I am guilty of using the word on these blogs, but I try. I don’t refer to anyone I know male or female as a nigga(r) unless I am speaking specifically about an IGNORANT person. Believe it or not, there IS a difference between BLACK PEOPLE and NIGGERS. There are niggers of all races, not just black.

Black people need to stop making excuses and admit that when both whites and Blacks used the word it is in a hateful manner. When one Black man is blowing another Black man’s brains out, guess what he is calling him? A nigger. Whites hates Blacks and in return taught Black people to hate themselves and their image as well. No the old White devil didn’t learn to use nigger from us, but we have done an excellent job at picking up where whites left off as it is now Black America who is keeping this word alive.
