Advertisers Not Feeling BET’s Hot Ghetto Mess
Mounting backlash against an upcoming BET series accused of trafficking in racial stereotypes has prompted at least two advertisers to pull out of the premiere episode on the Viacom Inc.-owned channel.
Sources said Monday that such companies as State Farm Insurance Cos. and the Home Depot requested that their advertisements be yanked from the new comedy series “Hot Ghetto Mess” as well as from a Web page on BET.com touting the program.
It is good to see advertisers not wanting to have anything to do with this mockery of a show.

HA they already know the show is gonna make some people mad.

The show is based off of this website http://www.hotghettomess.com which shows us how ignorant we can be sometimes. But I don’t think they should of turned it into a TV show. Its a contradiction to me because BET continues to perpetrate the stereotypes that the show is supposed to critique…

BET has gottin hella bootlegged and stupid to me..

BET, a black channel is now going to demean black people. Its the perfect plan. As much as people say “oh this is wrong,” many of them will probably watch the first episode just to see what direction the show is going in. On the contrary, BET doing this is a HOT GHETTO MESS.

Bet can’t have a good T.V. show to save their LIVES. Why don’t they try an ORIGIONAL sitcom or ORIGIONAL drama? There are enough B, C&D list black actors to cast and put into regular work (not naming any names LOL)?!!!
Not only will I not watch BET in the daytime, but I won’t even allow myself to fall asleep with BET on cuz I don’t want any nasty, cellulity, flat chested, bullet-hole, stab wound and stretch marked out booty shakers, or any of the worst of the worst “rappers” to appear in my dreams from that horror of a show Uncut lol.
They have not progressed in like 27 years of broadcasting. I am so happy Bob Johnson’s wife got half of his greedy ass fortune after she found out about him and Deborah Lee. I used to have respect for that woman. Now, when she comes out at the award shows, I just SMDH and get sick at the stomach. She got PLAYED.

its that crap on BET and vh1 “charm skool” “flavor of love” this is why ppl think all black ppl are like this…..its one thing if mtv or vh1 did this show BUT ur own channel BET is doing this show is jus wrong. a channel that should try to uplift black ppl and show the viewers wut blacks are or can really be (like the Cosby Show) is doing the complete opposite, making a mockery of its own ppl to make sum money that theyre not gonna make cuz PEOPLE (BLACKS INCLUDED) DON’T WATCH BET CUZ IT SUXXXXX….MTV and MTV JAMS are my channel 4 music and GOOD ORIGINAL REALITY SHOWS…..deborah lee (u think i didnt notice that michael jackson nose job u got) give it up, MTV is better then u and id rather watch vh1 then watch ur crap u call television….its ashame the station is called black entertainment when it should be called COON TV

BET isn’t the same anymore and it bothers me. Jacking ideas left and right which isn’t cool.
I was watching BETJ the other day (which used to be the jazz channel) and honestly, it is what BET should be. Their original programming is better than regular ol BET plus they show older episodes of Planet Groove and Video Soul (which are what video shows should be)…man, I miss the old BET…even back when they were showing Hits and Cita.

the linked article is great.
From a European stand point it tells a lot on what I thought to be one of the biggest black media in the States.
debate is good in my opinion if we first agree that a black media must be of service to the community and never the opposite.

Yeah BET! Fuckin bums…
July 10th, 2007 at 9:09 pm
all they gotta do is change the name of the show to get the advertisers back. advertisers want to advertise. but they aint gonna change the name, becuz the name is addin on to the publicity of the show. do yall realize how many people are gonna watch this show just becuz its called hot ghetto mess? the name of the show is something that u are gonna remember, its funny, and it causes some kind of a buzz, in this case, controversy. the people who thought of the name did their job, now i just wanna see how good the show is. give it a chance. c’mon guys, its black entertainment television lmao RIP the N word

It hasn’t been ‘our’ channel since Bob sold it. Deborah Lee and Stephen Hill are figure heads. Viacom runs the show and dictates exactly what you see on BET today.

#14..I’ll let you beleive that everything they show you on BET is real. Shit they’re in the buisness of tellin lies to yur vision just like I said.
