Who Is To Blame For The Most Hated Songs Getting The Most Play?

I don’t even watch TRL but I see a repeat on and, “Party Like A Rockstar,” is number 1. I was kind of shocked by that, then I see, “Ay Bay Bay,” premiering on TRL. The other day I’m watching 106 & Park and, “Wipe Me Down,” is number 1. I’m also noticing, “Krispy,” getting a lot of play now. From what I have seen on this site, people HATE these songs lol. This site gets visitors from all over the world so I don’t think it is a regional issue. So how are these records so popular. Are people fronting on the site and calling up TRL to vote for these vids on the low?

Also fans of these songs step up and admit it. Yes I will blast Wipe Me Down when it comes on LOL.

These wack azz songz r numb 1 bcuz they catchy. Not to offend nobody but most of these wack azz songs r from the south. Right now the south is hot in the game. It’s all about the dance music. The songz that play in the club r the ones that become number 1 on the videos shows. Most of the party songz r from the south. I remember a time when people heard the song then couldn’t wait to see the video. Now they hear the song on the radio and when the video come out, they vote it numb one just to listen to it.

I’ll admit…as much I think its funny, when Wipe Me Down comes on, I blast it too lol. A Bay Bay I can’t stand but I won’t turn the TV when its on lol. Its definitely something psychological going on. When you play a song over and over and over and over and over and over, you’re going to become immune to it. Shit isn’t going to phase you anymore.

They’re catchy songs so they’re going to get stuck on your head. I fight it by not listening to the radio…

M90 wrote on July 9th, 2007 at 1:26 pm

Tha thing wit those tv shows is that they have their own selection of viewers who watch those tv shows lookin for that pop-hiphop shit…the people who like to listen to real lyrically hiphop look for other sources to get or hear their muzik..hence thats y their #1 cuz those people go in and vote for it…me personally i stopped watching trl years ago…106npark is on a fast decline…these lil cetchy poptunes are getten more n more popular on these tv shows…even the radio is nonstop play of aybaybay…and the clubs also blast that shit but thats expected…i dont think hiphop is dead or will ever die…if i dont like what their playen on the radio…ill put in a classic biggie joint..that wont ever die…

I Think its a combination of things , a little of what nineth wonder said and what primo said on you site . Nineth wonder said 106 and park and stuff like that is for the kids theres hip hop for adults out there but it obviously aint on that show . When people say they dont like those songs check there age range not there region . . And like primo said the radio is just lost right now . There only playing one kind of record now . Honestly i think satelitte radio is the future . Satellite radio is like a breath of fresh air when you hear it you cant go back to fm . And there unsigned artsist friendly . I got a song played on shade 45 on cipha sounds show …. he wouldnt have did that on hot 97 ….. check out my song its called kiss my ass http://www.Myspace.com/Ezlogic Let me know what yal think

It’s these little grown-ass kids on 106 & Playground..they’re taking over, that’s one reason hip hop is DEAD!!!! A R&B song has to include a rapper in order to get over. The only R&B song that has gotten over this year w/o a rapper is LOST W/O YOU by Robin Thicke….

14.

truly feelin that there’s a repeat going on somewhere, bcuz “How Do I Breathe” was definitely #1 the week of The 4th of July…

…don’t mean 2 sound biased, but I’m not feelin Wipe me down or Ay Bay bay right now… I did catch the boyz Young Berg & Junior on my turf the other nite tho; ::lol:: …

Simple……don’t reply on BET, MTV, & Radio to give you good songs. We are in the digital world. The best music are not on these stations. Ignore your TV and go on the internet and find great artists on myspace, Okplayer, stonesthrow, dubcnn etc. Stop hating just ignore what you don’t like, the more we ignore wack rappers the sooner the sponsors will stop placing their logo on BET.

Caint wait till Detox raises the standard of music for these bedroom beat makers

The only song I can honestly say penetrated my thick wall of WACK intolerance is “Rock Ya Hips” by Crime Mob. I think Diamond and Princess are pretty good at what they do, especially Diamond (the blond) cuz she is only 19 and has been at it for a minute. I thought she was much older by the way she carries herself. She is also on the Vibe 25 sexiest list from last month so she is comming up. Everything else mentioned, I don’t really go to the club but 1-2 times a year, and it’s usually to see one of my friends perform out here in L.A. It’s just not me anymore. I kid about going to the club, but unless it’s a VIP party on Sunset or Beverly Hills, or a perfomance someone has drugg me to, I don’t go. I have no idea what sounds good in the club right now. And I didn’t even know what that dude was sayin’ in the “Wipe Me Down” video till I saw the video and I still don’t understand what he means completely. It makes no sense to me, especially when Webbie comes in wit’ his verse lol.

People on the Internet over analize songs. They pull out they little hip hop calculator and plug in wether a song is lyrical ,has multi syllables, vocabulary, rhyme schemes, ect….

The majority of hip hop listeners just simply hear a song and if they like it they like it if they don’t they don’t. They don’t care if its talking about something significant or if its talking about going to a club. No overanalizing, its just about what sounds good to them. And right now, these club songs are what sounds good to people. Thats why its all on the radio. Thats why its all over BET and MTV.

I must admit, Wipe Me Down is my joint in the club…it has even graduated to my iPod. I did buy the single…YES I DID, but that is where it ends. I don’t like A bay bay…or Krispy (beat is hard, but song is wack). I think these songs appeal to kids, they even have kids featured in the song. Isn’t there like a 4 year old on the hook of A bay bay??? And why does 106 & FART determine what’s hott nowadays…nobody is calling up…and if they are, BET is not monitoring the calls to determine the order of the videos…that is so old. TRL only shows the first minute of the videos last time I watched (in ‘02)…Music is kinda lame now. So therfore I have no questions for ya boy Chris. Maybe some advice…Good Luck with sticking around.

Kler wrote on July 9th, 2007 at 3:22 pm

Those are catchy songs that’s why people like it. You need the average people non hiåphop fans to enjoy it. It doesn’t matter what genre of music you’re into, pretty much all the time when a song hit the number one spot on shows like TRL for example then it’s almost always these “pop hiphop” songs or pop rock songs..etc. Most of the people who vote are the same people who like Britney Spears and Mandy Moore…they are the ones who vote. It’s not like hardcore hiphop fans are voting on shows like TRL.

WHITE AMERICA’S TO BLAME!Songs like party like a rock star for some people is more pop than hip hop and that appeals to a larger audience then say Common new joint which you probably want see play every hour so, the networks like BET and MTV play into that. I think BET trys to be a network that’s trying to be down like MTV, I never really watch 106 and Park because it’s a kids show. I’m 22 and I haven’t watch that show since AJ and Free was on real talk. BET is really for the kids now. All they want to play now is Chris Brown,Hurrican Chris, and that damn Pretty Rick. Songs that appeal to the larger audience. In this season BET is trying to have a show like Laguna Beach. Come on now we don’t need rich black kids showing there asses on tv it’s bad enough we got Moniques Charm School and I Love New York. In stead of BET trying to be the majority try being the minority. Bet was the only network that brought you uncut videos, teen summit and where the hell is Cita. She was an animation she ain’t got no where to be. That’s all I’m saying

There are so many uneducated niggas on this site, thats why… Hip Hop was started to be FUN and to DANCE….and now there are records that practice that and niggas are gettin heated over it??? its stupid…. dance songs are STILL apart of hip hop and songs with catchy phrases like ay bay bay, party like a rockstar, wipe me down, they are STILL HIP HOP so dont say hip hops dead…. there are ALOT of different parts of hip hop… the LYRICAL part isnt DEAD either… its just that its not getting AIRPLAY if u dig deeper youll see there are still very lyrical rappers maknig records, you just need to turn off the radio and look for them on the internet. the records like ay bay bay and wipe me down are meant to HAVE FUN not to be LYRICAL and have deep thought. when youre at a party do uwant to hear nas or talib kweli? i dont. i’m glad that hip hop is versatile but i do wish that mainstream radio would switch it up and be versatile also.. but damn, ya’ll need to STOP hating because niggas is having fun and making dance records…. relax yo.

51.
hellaFLY wrote on July 9th, 2007 at 4:04 pm

I’m glad that Hip Hop has feel good party records like Party Like A Rockstar and Ay Bay Bay and i’m glad they have lyrical songs like Can’t Tell Me Nothing and One Mic….Hip Hop has alot of different aspects. dont get mad at the artists making these records, get mad at the radio/tv for playing them, if u want to see different records then GO VOTE for different ones instead of complainging about it on a website.

the more ppl are buying and requesting this shit the more airplay it will get! It’s true that it’s mostly kids who are buying (&downloading) stuff like that. radio and TV just give us what “we” are asking for. that doesn’t include most of realtalk’s readers… I haven’t seen anyone my age coppin this cheap ish. real hip hop heads shouldn’t consume too much TRL or BET- you will automatically come to Nas’ conclusion too- hiphop is dead. does that mean Nas is watching too much of that stuff? dunno.. what CDs did Nas buy in the last year?
remember chris rock? ‘i love rap music but I am tired of defending it!’ Chris was damn right!
I can’t lie when I’m off in the club and the henny kicks in and this hot girl pushes herself against me like I was a rapstar - fuck it! I ma also be enjoying dat senseless ish that simply needs a bassline and a wack ass rapper on it. I ma also be singin to the window to the wall til the sweat drips from my.. I’m not gonna walk up to the dj leave the girl and request some real hip hop that has got a real story to tell. daaammn! Am I killing hiphop with that behaviour???

Now as far as who is to blame for all theze whack ass songs being played I would point the finger at record labels, white kids voting on trl thinkin that its “cool” to listen to that type of music. There are alot of politics in the industry of music and I think that the labels give radio stations and music tv stations incentives for playin their songs. The stations play it so much that it starts to catch on real fast to the point where the labels dont have to pay to get it played any more. All the hip hop being played are party songs, songs that are only good to party to, its a dam shame.

It was enjoyable reading all of your opinons and thoughts regarding hip-hop. In my opinion I do not like most of the songs played on the radio nor the TV stations. Therefore instead of me constantly getting upset with these types of one hit wonder songs I just spend my time listening to my classic albums all day.

‘not 2 bring race in it but only white people vote 4 trl and 4 them lyrics dont matter.’

What? Ok, first off, it’s not just white people who vote on trl, and race isn’t the issue, its age. I havent watched TRL since i was 16, and I’ve never voted on that shit. And if I did, I wouldn’t be voting for that garbage Rockstar song. I’m not saying white people don’t make shit music, but we aren’t the ones putting this shit out there. It’s the 13 n 14 year olds who vote, getting these songs the most airplay, and then theres the dummies who think that their opinions actually matter, and play the songs even more. These are fucking ringtones these arent songs.

OMG NY may be the originators of Hip Hop but the world is diverse for a reason. Music has to be made to appeal to every types of people. Im from the South and i really feel the lyrical content of real hip hop musicians like Nas, Biggie, Wu tang, Styles P, etc., but the average Southerner cant feel the waves of regal hip hop. Its too deep. Most Southerners like to party, we cant do that to alot of up north music, so to not stray away from the genre we love, we reformed it to keep us entertained

The thing about Hip Hop today. The older generations doesn’t control it now. It’s all about the teenagers and the youth today. The youth affects what gets bought in this industry, not 30 year olds. Do you expect the music to stay the same for years, it evolves with the time and how everyone views the way they are. For example, “This Is Why I’m Hot”

Wipe me down is a hot track for the summertime, but I personally thinks its the kids, especially the white kids that make these songs pop like they do..

Jay wrote on July 10th, 2007 at 7:37 am

Personally, I don’t even remember the last time I listened to the radio. And Forget 106 and shows similar to that.

I got my IPod on me and it has all the shit I like. No commercial breaks, no crap like “Ay Bay Bay”. I listen to what I want, when I - simple as that.

It pains me to see that hip-hop deteriorated like this, and even though I don’t listen to radio or TV, it still has an effect on me and people like me. Because of all this bullshit coming out lately, I find it harder and harder to find good hip-hop tracks these days. I just hope this “I’m proud to be stupid” trend eventually goes away. But either way, I’m just gonna listen to my shit and enjoy it.

A little side note. It is true that the songs mentioned in many previous posts are good for the clubs and parties, I will not argue with that. When you’re just chillin out, it doesn’t really matter what plays in the background, as long as it’s sounds ok. But after you’re out, keep those shits there, will ya? This is where they belong, and this is where they should stay. I’m sure a lot of people will agree with me on this one.

Anyways, that’s my 2 cents. I’m out.

it’s simple, u pay something over and over and eventually people start liking it. those songs are what they are, songs 2 make u dance. if u want 2 listen 2 stuff that’s gonna make u analyze things then u listen to kanye or common or freestyle battles (loaded lux)

First of all let me say that I am white nd i live in the suburbs so mayb i can bring a different prespective.

ay bay bay nd krispy are popular the content isnt anything to hardcore or gangsta so the parents will pay for the song on itunes nd shit and then they go vote for it.

then the older kids like my age (i just graduated from high school) make fun of it

wipe me down is a hot song it just has a lame hook be we all liked hot in herre at one time

u guyz r all knowledgable hip hop fans nd i agree that race has something to do with it altho there r plenty of white ppl who understand that most of these southern rappers trying to start fads r killin hip hop rite now. the exception is TI, his album was great nd i am pissed that hurricane chris is gettin more radio than him

COSIGN #3… New York and most East Coast niggaz is mad as fuck that they aint sellin records so they blame it on the South. Bottom line is that music is entertainment. You dont got to the club with a fuckin notepad so you can write down the message in a song. You go to party and have fun. Why in the fuck do niggaz gotta be so serious all the damn time… damn.

I DISAGREE WITH EVERYTHING L BOOGIE SAID. NIGHT CLUBS SHOULDN’T BE THE ONLY PLACE PEOPLE CAN ENJOY MUSIC! BUT BECAUSE OF ALL THE RINGTONE RAP (MAINLY FROM THE SOUTH) a PERSON THAT DOESN’T PARTY LIKE A ROCK STAR ALL THE DAMN TIME SUFFERS. OH AND I KNOW YOU GUYS FEEL GREAT FOR DOING A MILLION ITUNE SALES BUT YOUR ALBUMS ARE ONLY DOING 63K. THE BOTTOM LINE IS PEOPLE WANT DIVERSITY!!! THE NIGHT CLUB MUSIC IS GREAT FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO DON’T KNOW AND DON’T CARE ABOUT ANYTHING OUTSIDE OF A DANCEFLOOR.BUT FOR OTHER PEOPLE WE’D LIKE SOMETHING WITH A MESSAGE AND LYRICAL PROWESS.

I have lived in many parts of the US and moved to NY about 4 years ago and have never seen a group of haters anywhere else like here. Its great to rep your hood, but be real about what and where hip hop is now. Its not always about the lyrics and what someone is saying. If the hook can get your head bobbin then why not give them their props? No one is cal;ling these cats “MCs”. We are jsut giving them their do for this ONE cut. And let’s be real, most of the time its ONE and only ONE cut that they do this well. “Wipe me down” and “Ay Bay Bay” are both head nodders that should get their props for just that. As for “Krispy”, I don’t even like the hook. But thats my choice. If it gets your head bobbin, then bob away mo’fo and enjoy.

My 2 Cent$
