id say real hip hop or rap is from the heart, its just real. its somethin you can relate to cause the artist is tellin you something, and i also think when it comes to that real rap shit it doesnt even depend on the beat, its only about the lyriks. i mean im german, im white, but that has nothing to say, you aint gotta be black or you dont have to be from the ghetto to be hip hop or to listen to it, its just your lifestyle and the way youre thinkin and actin. i may not live the life that they talk about but nonetheless i can relate to it cause everybody has a struggle and in some way everybodys hustelin and goes through the same shit and has the same problems in life and i think (”real”) rapmusic is the music that expresses that the best, i can hear what they wanna tell me and i can feel what they wanna tell me, just some real stories and thats what its about. there are just too many out there that are imitating that whole shit and thats fake,… so thats not real
one more thing, i think most people mean classic hip hop when they talk about real hip hop.

Real Hiphop is somethink you can relate to like in 2 Pac song Dear Mama I’m sure alot of people can relate to that because he was talk about the struggle him Mom made to put food on the table. Real Hiphop is more than the beat it is the lyrics and has a deep meaning in the songs a message that you’re trying to tell people.

Hip-Hop to me is music that express whats going on in todays ghettos… For it to be real hip-hop you must have experience it and it should be relative to shit in the hood. Dont talk bout drugs because it’s the shit to do, keep it real…talk about your struggle for example not being able to get a job, girl issues, watever! I’m working on a demo, they say actions speak louder then words so I plan to give the world a example…

really, people’re tryin’ too hard here. hip hop is hip hop. gangsta, conscious, crack-rap, whatever. if people don’t personally like it or think that certain artists aren’t being “genuine” (whatever that means,) that’s cool, but you can’t draw lines based on preferences.

i mean, is all hip hop just supposed to use samples and sound like it was made in the early ’90s to be “real?” i like the “commercial” production on Jigga’s Blueprint 2 substantially more than i like a lot of basic boom bap, is that not real. i’s jez sayin’.

it’s cool if New York wants to come back, but like i saw Polow da Don say in some interview recently, people gotta get off this “it was all good in the mid-’90s” mentality and freshen the sound. doesn’t mean they gotta rhyme over “This Is Why I’m Hot”/”Wipe Me Down”-style beats, but some people’re clueless when they complain about X album not selling. chances are it’s because MC Noonecares didn’t take the time to make a viable single, and it ain’t because the record labels are evil. there’s ways to cross over without compromising shit much.

not directed to anyone in particular, just my thoughts on this “real rap” shyte. the South’s runnin’ shit for a reason. NY needs a new Jay-Z, someone who knows how to balance commercial appeal with bein’ straight-up dope. i’d say T.I. and Kanye West are good candidates, but then, they ain’t from New York.
