An Example Of How Sampling Works
I found this interesting, I hate when people say someone jacked a beat from another artist/group that used a sample for their beat. Like people saying Ashanti was biting a Biggie song with, “Foolish.” There is nothing wrong with sampling, just would be nice for people to know where the original sample comes from.

SAMPLING IS A WAY OF LIFE. LONG AS IS LEGAL, ITS A WIN WIN:
YOU RESURRECT “DEAD” SONGS/ARTIST POPULARITY AND THEY GET PAID.
& YOU CREATE ON TOP OF AN ESTABLISH CREATION. BUILDING GREAT
MUSIC UPON GREAT MUSIC.
I liked the daft punk stronger version better than the kanye/daft punk version.
Daft punk harder faster better stronger video:

I am a producer…see sample’s like this…you deserve credit, but not 50 percent publishing. I think a couple grand would do well when it’s just something like this, but not all the publishing…It’s an original track as far as I’m concerned.
On another note…if a song doesn’t get popular, why would you want to know where something came from…rappers not tryin to clear everything!!!! Do ya own research.
Sampling has been apart of hip hop since the very first stages of hip hop, producers used to sampled James Brown to hip hop records all the time.
Good job on the video. People need educating!!! I liked the original Daft Punk song and video and I like the Kanye version as well. You can’t really go wrong with sampling if a song was good enough to put out years ago then you already know it has a quality about it thats likable, if it was a hit then it probably will be again.
for poeple to say ashanti stole that foolish joint from biggie is just dumb and crazy
biggie stole it from big l mvp joint (go do your research) which came out before biggie. and also biggie/puff daddy and the whole badboys (go do your research) they stole alot of peoples joint and re sample it.
i aint have no problem with other poeple sampling other people shit just make better or at least make different and if it cant go above the original make sure it at least it reach the level the original reach.
maaaaannnnnnnnnn. The Kanye version killed the daft punk version on the strength of kanyes added bass line alone. He made it better. But respect goes out to all the artists.
“you made it a hot line, I made it a hot song”
how bout people stop sayin a person ” Stole” dat beat from someone. if dey cleared it itz not stealing.
To me rappers that sample songs are reintroducing a song that probably had not been played for a minute, just like kanye I didn’t know about no daft punk but know I might check out some of their old shit.
@ 8. Please STFU and do your research. “Foolish” samples “One More Chance” and that samples Debarge’s “Stay With Me.”
SMFH.
Kanye took a boring Daft Punk song and made it badass.
Thank you #12…people need to get it right. Its surprising how many RnB songs have been sampled from. I remember getting on this dude so bad because he said that Ashanti’s ‘Only You’ sampled The Luniz ‘I Got 5 On It’, when they both sampled Club Nouveau’s “Why You Treat Me So Bad”…
Lol Anon that’s what I’m talking about. Cats saying a song is stolen from someone else, not even knowing the truth.
i hate it when people say people are stealing. theres a diffrence between sampling and stealing. people need to clear samples. most ignorant cats dont even understand how beats are created so its sad to see them critisize the producers and put a bad name to them.
and face it, if ur a producer u know that half of all hip hop beats were sampled.
and thanks to anon #12 for clarifying the sample which BOTH artists used.
do your research kanye’s version is amazing . But the original sample isn’t Daft Punk, its a man named Edwin Birdsong (sp.). Check it out.
@ 12: We need more people like you on this blog to school the rest of the idiots on here. And as far as this whole “go do your research” movement, please don’t think cause you people find something in wikipedia, you have been edjumacated. (Yes I said edjumacated)
When someone is saying stealing, they mean the sample. In hiphop (pre-Puffy and his wholesale bullshit ripping people off era) Using a sample that someone else has already used, is/was a big no-no. There is a school of thought that says if you freak it a different way, then it can be considered acceptable. Puffy, Irv and them (think Jenny from the Block, trackmasters vs beatnuts) just rip other peoples ideas off. Its one thing If a producer digs and finds a cool ass sample, then freaks it and turns it into a song, its another if puffy or irv come along a couple of years after the fact and just re-do it (think ed og, foolish, etc etc)
Kanye’s touch the sky wasn’t a sample that nigga just straight jacked Curtis Mayfield
