Throwback: Common – I Used To Love Her

If he used to love her back then, I wonder what he thinks about her now? Can you guys relate to the song, seem like a lot of you cats not liking where Hip Hop is at right now. Personally I think people don’t have very good memory and assume things were always better back in the days. The same songs people say are crappy now were being made 10 years ago, you just don’t remember them.

I don’t know if I agree that things were just as bad then. Resurrection came in when? ‘94-’95? What else came out that during that stretch…Illmatic, Ready To Die, Craig Mack’s CD, etc…

That was a pretty good period to me. There was way more emphasis on beats and rhymes. Now a days people care more that you sold dope more than the quality of your lyrics.

Yeah there has always been music that was subpar, but back in the late 80’s and early 90’s there was a larger variety to choose from. You had ATCQ, Big Daddy Kane, Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions, Souls of Mischief Eric B. and Rakim, Ice -T, NWA, Too Short, Cypress Hill, Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, Sweet T, Salt and Pepa, Heavy D and the Boyz, and I could go on and on with soooo many great groups. And if you check my list I included everything from light hearted rap to informative to that street ish.
All listed above had some type of airplay whether radio or video(NWA), but that can not necessarily be said for today’s radio or video play.

Oh yeah I almost forgot I just was bumping this a little while ago this is still a hot song. Shout out to Common Sense aka Common.

  9. Smashx Says:

50, Nelly, Eminem were needed for the growth of hip hop. I guarantee is those three arttists never came out this site wouldnt exist and half the ppl that are fans of hip hop now would not be fans.

  10. Majestic Says:

Love this joint to death, really brings back memories..
Now to answer your question about us remembering the music that sucked back then.. The problem is that back then when you made some wack shit you were clowned and called out.. Nowadays there’s just so much bullshit that its become exceptable and almost the norm.. back in the day you tell a nigga his shit was wack he would either go back to the lab and anti-up or he would just get it.. Now you do it and a nigga wanna shoot you.. whats a nigga ta do..

  19. 24isBack Says:

Classic shit, this that real hip hop…. com is one of the G.O.A.T’s

  20. Ikvir Says:

classic joint from Common, ill never get sick of this track…one of the most conceptual tracks in hip-hop.

  21. BAMMmm Says:

classic…i even see that 2pac made a cameo in the video, i like the way he made the girl be hiphop,

  22. trivial Says:

thats how i feel bout (hiphop)her now, i use to love her because she went down south and forgot where she came from lol

  23. Shaknasty Says:

I disagree with your statement. You can not compare this video to what is transpiring in hip-hop today. The song had substance, and lyrical content. This track is nothing like this teenie boppin, gang violence promoting crap you here today.

  24. T Baby Says:

    ^^ co sign

hip hop was way more of an ART FORM back in the day.

now its jus an ATM. niggas only use it to get money out of it.

before, you did it cause u loved it and you got money doing something you love.
these niggas now are just rapping to get rich.

thats why i say rap is like a minstrel show.
these niggas are putting on a show for the white people, the main consumers, to make money.

  25. Flippin-saint Says:

Be bumpin this when im in class all the time
