its because theres nothing special aobut realtalkny at all. the best things worth reading on the site are just jacked from other sites/message boards. all the “exclusive” stuff is weak as hell. the site itself is slow, the layout is horrible.

i check this site because i know i can just come here and get all the info thats been jacked in one place. just because people like me do that, doesn’t mean this site should be getting world recognition. the sites that are getting buzz are the ones that actually put in work.

You guys can beleive what you want but there are thousands of hip hop blogs out there. But for some reason this one is getting over 5 million hits in less then a year. Men lie, Women lie, numbers dont.

IMO, the interviews are really lackluster. And if you do get a blog from the sites, what would you write about? Post pictures and give 1 liner captions about them?

Furthermore, the pictures really aren’t that big of deal to me because of sites like wireimage and gettyimages and all the other ‘razzi agencies & gossip blogs. Basically, if you don’t post the pictures, someone else will. And no disrespect, your writing is pretty much amatuer in my opinion.

Also, regardless of your hits, its all about quality. There maybe thousands of em out there but only a few are getting recognition. Why? Because of their quality work and knowledge of hip hop music. So I suggest you go back to the drawing board & step it up. When you do that, let the media come to you, don’t clog their email boxes looking for a shout out.

If the site is that bad and so many others have the same thing, WHY DO YOU COME HERE? Go to one of the plenty you feel is better if things are that bad. Im sorry the site doesnt live up to your standards, I suggest you move on to a better blog that will satisfy you.

These are the things you gonna have to do to make this site popoff proper
1. Change the name from Realtalkny.net to Realtalk.com or something with .com instead of net and you shouldnt limit yourself to just New York. This site is worldwide.
2. Change the layout to something more professional and make it look like a WEBSITE instead of a blog. (Hire someone to create something exclusive.)
3. Add music, people love music who come to this site make it easier for people to access the music you post so that they wont have to go to page to page, looking for links that goes directly to z-share.(Create a flash player or something)

4. Try to organize the layout better because on the far right i see a bunch of ads and it is tacky. You feel me.
5. You haven’t clearly defined to us what kind of site this is. Is it a hip-hop site, sports site, fashion site, a site for movies, site for news. Becuz you post things from all areas. YOU NEED A FOCUS. And you focus is clearly hip-hop/rnb and music in genral. so dont post no clips of sports,boxing,movies thats coming out Just focus on MUSIC RELATED NEWS.(You have 50 Cent, Jay-z Nas etc on your banner but you post news from different subjects, it can confuse some of the visiters)

Should i change the layout and what color scheme should i look for?
Should i add a music section to the site?
Should i delete the recent comments and comment box sections

i agree with most people the reason i always log into realtalkny is because the layout is so simple and i check it a few times a day…

I think, no better yet I know you gotta keep the comments. That’s not even up for question, but maybe what you could do is organize it better or direct comments to the forum. Also, with the layout, I think you should not completely change the layout. I like how I can come straight to the page and see the new post, but I would like it to be easier to search for previous posts. You should create an archive and either organize them buy date or subject or both. Also I wanna mention the regularity of your posts and different region post. Those are a just a few suggestions of mine, but Im gonna be one here daily regardless.

I have no clue what people are comparing this site to when they say it is weak. All the major sites that can recognition have major problems:
-Pitchfork: has been going downhill for the past two years and cater to what ever is getting buzz at the time
-Allhiphop: has a horrible new layout that they don’t seem to be correcting, and writing has been wek for months
-SOHH: isn’t really worthwhile for anything
-HipHopDX: one of the few sites with consistency, originality, buy can still go long stretches without having any interesting pieces

RealTalkNY does a good job of compiling good stories and adding original material to boot- yes, the site can be improved, but it is still fairly new in comparison, and can easily become one of the best major hip-hop sites on the net

My advice is to don’t try to change the site to be like SOHH, AllHiphop or the other web sites. Think about it; out of the numerous R&B singers that appears on the scene, Beyonce remains to be the top dog because she consisently brings something new and different on the table, and therefore, seperates herself from the other singers. With Real Talk NY, I get stuff that i wouldn’t get anywhere else and that’s why i stopped going to Allhiphop and began religiously i go here. So in short,keep doing the good job you have been doing so far and fuck the haters.

Maybe add something like Music reviews for the recent albums that have recently hit the stores. The layout could be better though how about hitting us with some upcoming artists to look out for and upcoming albums to look out forever.

If you wanna make money online you gotta understand that it takes money to make money so you would have to recruit some more people to work for you in getting more exclusives, getting into more parties, and shows- and believe me when you start spending money on employees you start looking at the game in a WHOLE DIFFERENT way, your hustle goes up a couple 100 notches and you start to hunger for that break, and I think thats what you need. Hell, you might even get bought out by sites like Allhiphop if your shit is just right. You will always have a community online as long as you keep up the blog, and its simplicity will keep bringing new fans but change is not bad, it just depends on HOW you change. In my opinion you just need to clean up the look a little and start hustlin to get wayyyy more exclusive interviews, when people in the industry see you and your runners every day they’ll either just get used to it, or get annoyed by it, both ways you get recognition.
