Stop The Madness: Philly Mayor Put On Blast

Mayor John F. Street was among the first to get a coveted iPhone on Friday, waiting in line, on and off, for almost 15 hours and forced to defend the effort when a passer-by asked about the city’s skyrocketing murder rate.

He left his spot around 11:30 a.m., soon after a 22-year-old man sporting a mohawk asked him, “How can you sit here with 200 murders in the city already?”

The mayor replied: “I’m doing my job.”

Full Story

Philly’s murder rate is out of control and this clown is spending hours waiting for the iPhone? You can’t tell me this time couldn’t have been spent trying to make a change in a city that is crumbling. If the people with power don’t give a damn, how will things ever change? Come on man, STOP THE MADNESS.

I agree!!! I don’t believe the whole burden should be bared by 1 man, but he should have had his priorities in CHECK!!! I would expect a 22 year old man to wait in line, but if it were SO importaint for him to have the phone RIGHT A WAY, he should have paid some teenager to wait in line for him? I would have and I don’t even have doe like he does lol!!!

It’s summertime for GOD’s sake, ALL the kids are out of school lookin’ for some extra doe, while also like my man 50 said “the summertime is a KILLING season, ALL OVER AMERICA!!! It’s that way out here in L.A. and I assume everywhere else.

But for the LIFE OF ME, I don’t understand why the Nations CAPITAL of all places, has had the highest crime, particularly MURDER rate, for most of the 27 years I have been alive? That area (D.C., VA and MD) also has a VERY alarming rate of Heroine sales and addiction ie that show The Corner!!! It (Heroine) took my father’s life out there in D.C. when I was only 6 and NOTHING has changed for the better!! Only gotten WORSE in my lifetime!!

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!! WE NEED YOU MORE THAN EVER!!!

You can’t be serious, thats what the cops are for? So the Mayor plays no role in controlling crime?

yo the mayor needs his iphone to rid the city of voilence haha.

instead of him wasting time juggling all of his appliances, he will save time by having them all in one.
in turn making more time for him to do his mayor shit lol.

Why should he care if we as black people are pumping murder music talking about killing all day, him taking a day off won’t hurt..

Yup i said hip hop is influencing and causing the killing or young black males…..

Furthermore, he probably used a sick day or a personal day..

Yes the mayor plays a very important role in controlling crime but he isnt the only one that should be held accountable. Its not like its illegal what he did…the attention that this is getting is crazy to me…come on, all this drama over waiting in a long azz line… itz not like thoze 15 hours would have changed anything. You cant stop a man from wanting to kill another man…no matter what laws you set in motion or how much time you put in, you can never stop someone from killing someone else…. besides he prolly was enjoying a little leisure time to get away from the bullshit… the crime rate cant all be blamed on one man.

#6 kinda has a point, to a certain degree…KEEP IT REAL, but its not all to be blamed on hip-hop, hell no. The bullshit that goes on in the streets is neither caused by hip-hop or hip-hops fault its the other way around…REAL hip hop is a product of what goes on in the streets…what goes on in the streets is not a product of hip-hop. However, in some cases hip-hop is the culprit, for example the kids that cant seperate fact from fiction or right from wrong might listen to hip hop, take it the wrong way, and copy what they hear and see in hip hop, thus rising the crime rate.

is it the mayors fault: he can only do so much, what about self control & each individual handlin themselves in a grown up manner. damn tv & movie companies 4 teachin the youth. damn the parents 4 not doin their jobs. 200 is a crazy number.

STOP THE MADNESS? Give me a fucking break. You’re blowing this way out of porportion. He spent one friday waiting in line for an iphone, big deal. You expect him to be in the office 24/7? Even Mayors are entitled to some free time.

I def agree with #13…also as a resident of Philly, he hasn’t been the best. Hopefully, Nutter can bring some needed change. But it ain’t just the Mayor, its everybody’s responsibility to help deal with the crime up here. 6 people were murder on the first day of summer, it doesn’t make sense. Its not even the middle of summer and I know that its about to be out of control up here. John Street’s time is up so I could care less if he’s buying an iPhone.

At the same time how much can one man do at one given time. that like going to Bush while he’s on vacation and saying. How can you chil at your vacation home when there are millions of homeless people.

I’m sure the mayor is concerned with the murder rate but damn unless you expect dude to throw on a cape, cowl and bat symbol on his chest and deal with the murderers with vigilante justice then what can he do that he may not already be doing?

Michael Kay (Yankee announcer) told an interesting story yesterday/today that fits to this situation:

“Pat Neshek (a Minnesota Twins pitcher) is an avid hockey fan and as recently as a year ago, he was waiting outside of a hotel for the hockey players to come out so that he can get their autographs.

Someone in the Twins organization said to him ‘You know…you’re a professional player now. You really shouldn’t be waiting outside of hotels.’ And so [Neshek] shut it down.”

“The NHL heard the story yesterday and had a big bag of hockey memorabilia delivered to him the next day.”

So for ya’ll that don’t understand, it’s not how Street chose to spend his time that’s a problem. It’s his questionable decision making.

first of all let me say that I live in Philly and it’s a damn shame that John F. Street was caught standing in line for that damn I phone, abd just for the record as of tonight I murder rate is now an astonishing 214 murders on the city’s hands. So much for brotherly love on his behalf, and to think we voted for him not once but twice, and his brother had a nerve to think he was going to get elected into office. And every election his son always runs for city council and time after time they fail us as a city of 1.5 million, with most of them living on a poverty level and that bastard has anerve to say that he’s doing his job. Let the world be the judge of that, because that’s what it’s come to at this point, thanks to all that bad publicity from the world news.
Thanks John F. Street
