Out of them 5 things you listed, I'd definitely agree with some of them especially these:

1) Music- a lot sh#t just ain't musical. It sounds so wack. I mean it's like they let kindergarteners make noise in a room, loop it and they say a hook over it and it's a song on the radio. So definitely music is the key.

2) New York- yeah Hip-hop is missing NYC but a lot of that is NYC's fault. I live and breathe in Brooklyn, NY- capitol of tha world but headz in NY is just not recording high quality sh@t for the radio. I go to underground venues and the lyrics is hot but the tracks be all gothic and heavy and wack. Ain't no chick wanna get her groove on to sum gothic sh#t. Headz here in NY need to wake up and say just cuz I wanna keep it real don't mean it gotta be sumthin that's all heavy all the time. I'm an old hiphop head and tha thing to me is I think NY gotta do it for themselves. Many of us know a lot of non-NY southern sh#t is wack, headz can't spit and their tracks is mad corny but as long as it's selling across the country wack-azz NY stations is gonna play it like it's good music. We all know it's about them plantation stations telling them what records to play and which not to play.

3) Top emcees ain't getting shorter, just their exposure is super-light. There are many very good emcees but the problem is mass media would rather play wack emcees who got big money behind them promoting them.

4) Albums- I don't think that matters as much. If you're a real MC you won't put out wack albums.

5) Originality- I don't think there is a lack of originality in the artists, only a lack of originality in the radio stations, video shows and mass media that play music.

to all who represent the east coast west coast and midwest and the dirty south one love. after reading the article i felt a need to comment on it. i love hip hop, rap music, gangsta rap, hustlin music.what ever u may call it. AS for me i from the dirty state of Mississippi and came up on listening to Ice cube, Dr. dre, and snoop and pac they were the first ever rappers that ever got my head bobbing. But this after listening to public enemy, salt and pepper and ll cool j and big daddy kane. maybe i was just young but i did not understand it but i know people from the east coast knew what they were talkin about.later after listenin to mostly west coast rap and down south rap the east coast started to changed their style.See the west coast brought back the 70's funk to their beats they were on some other sh## and also with geto boys, ugk , 8ball and mjg, master p were adding some that southern flavor. U got to understand the dirty south never changed anything about the music from the 80's thru 2007 we just got more fire to the lyrics and more exposure bc people from the east coast were changing their style to a more slow flo with tight beats attracting hooks. the same formula the west coast and the south were always on. much repect to ny they were the founders of hip hop but if u dig a little bit deeper were did some of our black music come from. THe gospel, blues, jazz, the beats that come from. Yeah maybe hip hop has dropped a little in numbers bc u cannot fill anyones belly but when hip hop started out it was not in the billions like it is now.The game is not missing anything bc the same formula is their we just got to just keep it going and stop hatin on any particular region. If u hot and people like u /u sell records its just that simple. stop makin excuses why your region's rapper cannot buy a $500,000 chain he just not hot sry. Lol give shout out to the HYphy movement out here in CALI and all my dirty South affiliates and huge shout out to LIL boosie and Webbie and the whole trill Family

maybe thats just it.

Hip-hop gave it all it had natuarally.

Maybe it is dead..it's just hard to let it go.

It's not that we don't have good artists it's just we seen it all before there are still lots of talented young emcess but they are all have something we've heard before thats why the south has so much attention it's because they have a different sound they live differently than new york and the west do. So i guess its only fair to say that since we don't have right now all those things that hip-hop is missing just tells us that its dead.................
