Reggae Stars Sign A Reggae Compassionate Act(Stop Anti-Gay Lyrics)

Reggae stars Beenie Man, Sizzla and Capleton have vowed to refrain from writing anti-gay lyrics after signing a historic agreement to renounce homophobia. The artists, who have faced criticism in the past for penning controversial tracks inciting listeners to kill the gay community, have lent their name to the Reggae Compassionate Act - a new drive to “respect and uphold the rights of all individuals to live without violence due to their religion, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity or gender”.

The deal, brokered between reggae promoters and Stop Murder Music activists, also states, “We (as artists) agree not to make statements or perform songs that incite hatred or violence against anyone from any community”.

I guess there will be no more, “Batty Bwoy,” comments for these artist. The question is will this kind of agreement be made in the Hip Hop community? I don’t think that will happen anytime soon, unless protestors start affecting concert earnings.

number 1, no one is taking away free speech here. what theyre doing is saying they are making personal decisions to stop making anti gay lyrics. for you to say theyre “right” for bashing people based on sexual preferences is fucked up. civil rights are civil rights. everyone deserves them and inciting violence on a group of people for being who they are is wholly wrong in all sense of the word.

Lmao never thought I’d live to see the day lol! I guess it is a good thing, but I think they still feel the same way about gays, but decide keep the shit on the low so it wont affect their sales. Believe me I come from the same place these niggas come from and you cant even walk a certain way without the thugs confronting you about it or even worse killing you.

Ok den let me give yall the other side of why they signed that stupid thing…

New artist are not allowed to get visa’s to tour overseas because of the “hate/ violent” lyrics proclaimed.

That means the major artists who are also feeling the heat from gay rights groups internationally have to do something to shake that monkey off they back, plus also help the newer artists to get their shine on.

Sean Paul said the same thing that the big artists doing all this hate music is just a waste of time because of the eager gay rights goups internationally reay to deliver a backlash whch can cut SPONSORSHIP, and even certain countries wont even want them over their because of the negative heat, the gays run everything

“fuck faggots. i hate fags.

what is wrong with you? honestly, have you taken a second and actually acnowledged the issue here? Gay people are what they are. Black People are what they are. White people are what they are. Once again, “equality” is thrown out the window. You guys need to overcome your insecurities and realize that gay people are also human beings too.

You sound a lot like those guys did back in the 50’s and 60’s talking about black people. Grow up and realize that the world we live in is much different now.

Freedom of speech..YES, but at the same time there are certain things that’s shouldn’t be allowed to put out when it comes to music. For example, To bash and put down people because of race, religion or sexual preference and make songs about that. That’s hateful music and should be banned. It also says a lot about those artists. They are narrow-minded and extremely ignorant

I’m pissed dat these people can compare disliking sodomites(Batty boys)and disliking black people in the same bracket..To me this is a mind trick to make black people accept there disgusting wayz…Even the word homophobia is a bullshit made up word; I’m sure to have a phobia is saying that u r scared of something..Now I definitley ain’t scared of no twisted liaring batty boy..You shouldn’t even be fucking a woman up da arse let alone a man, so I wonder how you twisted people who agree wid dat shit get your logic that this shit is normal..lol….My parents r african and i’m born and live in London, all of the black youth over here bun that shit no matter how much they try and make it like it is normal. Them Djs R Wankers 4 going back on dere word if they r fraid to say it i’ll say it…BEING A BATTY BOY AIN’T PART OF BLACK CULTURE.. PUT all the fagz on a island and let mother Nature do her job!! Oh I forgot they can’t reproduce…I guess thatz another reason; well a very major reason into why these people r wrong, But don’t worry u fagz, the government will probaly come up with some freak clone man that can have babiez….lol

Im tired of gay people tryin to act like being gay is the same thing as being black in the 60s. Fuck outa here. We were born black and hated on 4 it. You decided to b gay.Gay is NOT a race. There is no Black,White and Gay. Yeah you have the right to be as Homo as you wanna be…But I have the right to be as homophobic asI want to. Being gay is of the devil simply because it is NOT pro-life. Think before responding….

I think it’s GREAT, now if they could do this in Rap with the “N” word. I wish this site would ban it too, but that’s just a dream. Look how many losers on this site still type the word over and over…

The amount of ignorance in this comments section is just astounding. Astounding. I hope to God you never have a kid who’s gay. How can there be so much hate? Who the hell cares who people love.

Serengeti wrote on June 15th, 2007 at 10:29 am

OK, here’s my take on this. First It’s absolutely wrong to compare the struggle of gays with the struggle of Blacks. As someone else already said, we were born Black, gays choose to be homosexual. A lot of them will give you that bullshit “I was born like this” excuse, but the truth is, GOD doesn’t make homosexuals. Of course, it’s wrong to incite violence against any one because they’re different, but we can feel however we want to feel about their lifestyle…..

As for certain Reggae stars deciding not to write anti-gay lyrics, that’s cool. It doesn’t mean that they’ve had a change of heart, it simply means that they’re becoming more aware of the affect their words have on their mainstream popularity and record sales worldwide. Anyone from Jamaica, anyone that has family from Jamaica, or anyone that has even been to Jamaica knows that homosexualality, both male and female, is violently looked down upon. These artists aren’t changing their viewpoints; they’re keeping them to themselves for the sake of making money..

Hate against gays is much greater in reggae music than in hip-hop. Hip-hop is homophobic but reggae has some serious anti-gay hate thing going on.
