We also need to start putting Dj’s and radio stations that take Payola on front street. There is a lot of good joints that never see the light of day because of this.

It’s not the south that is bringing down hip-hop. It’s lack of balance. Back during 84-95 or so you could hear good music from all over. Party records,Gritty underground, political joints all got love and the art form/culture grew. Now only one type of songs get played and hip-hop is worse off for it.

First of all, I have been a diehard Hip Hop fan since the very early 80’s
Secondly, Pete is my favorite producer! I will always, always buy his shit…….
Thirdly, he needs to acknowledge that for WHATEVER reasons, the lack of solid rap can also be attributed to the fact that all of the hottest acts from the late 90’s (ie Pete and CL, Tribe, etc..) have all broken up, could that also be the reason there is so much “garbage” in Hip Hop these days????????

Its more the companies killing hip hop more than the south in a way. The major record labels are obviously paying off the radio stations to play the same fucking rotaions ALL DAY LONG! In the process brain washing the teenagers to tell them whats hot instead of playing a WIDE VARAITY and letting US the listener decide

I guess he means “for the most part”. But Its definitly not just a south thing.

1.)Im tired of New York rappers actin harder than they really are.

2.) Im tired of radio playin shit 2,364,874 times to get you to like it.

3.) And yes…there need to be a hip-hop station for the one who like music with substance.

4.) People need to realize that Hip-Hop is being takin right out of the hands of tha people who created it, and being passed off as the REAL THING.

5.) And Yes…Alot of those people are comin from tha south, and in return its destroyin our youth and culture.

Hold up Pete…now I do agree that commercial radio is bad, the major video channels are horrible and there’s a lot of coonery goin on across the board (especially from Program Directors), but to make sweeping statements like: there is no good hip-hop being made and no good r&b artists is just plain wrong.

There are at least 10 excellent “real hip hop” albums released each year whether they show up on our radar or not is up to us. You can’t listen to Joell Ortiz, Black Milk, Kweli/Madlib, Little Brother or anything by Freddie Foxxx and tell me that it ain’t no good hip hop out.

People get carried away speaking sometimes.

And for the record Pete, you are mad, so am I and a lot of people should be the way we’ve let our culture become so corrupted. It’s Ok to be mad out here cause that’s the only way to bring about some change.

With that said Pete you still my guy so go on and drop something new so you can save us all. lol.

I feel ya… the oldies stations are stuck in a time warp, but think about this.. What advertisers do you think would spend their money with old school hip hopers? Don’t get me wrong I would love the idea of an oldie hip hop station but you wont see tom Joyner and other folks go that way for another 15 years…. Sad thing is a lot of peeps don’t know who Pete rock is.. im 34 and when I have talks with the younger generation they have no clue about their hip hop history… When I mention fat boys, Brand Nubian, Beastie Boys, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B and Rakim they look clueless…
