I respect Pete Rock real talk but….
Why do it seem like everyone who says hip-hop is dead or hip-hop is ruined are the ones that are old vets. i think da reason vets think hip-hop is dead is because its a new sound they aint use to. they wanna pronounce it dead just because the music changed over the years and people have changed in there interest in what they like. the radio is playing what da majority of people want. hip hop aint dyin. if anything its growin more mainstream with people all over the world everyday. there was a time wen only African Americans enjoyed hip-hop now itz become more cultrul

hhahha its funny how these old cats always hates on hiphop just cus they old hahaha
June 25th, 2007 at 3:12 pm
With age comes wisdom and you young cats will never understand that. So keep leanin, snappin and rockin to this garbage ass music passing off as hip hop. And watch as hip hop gets taken from us the same way rock was. But why should you care as long as it’s hot in the club, that’s all that matters.
June 25th, 2007 at 3:18 pm
Fuck The South. They destroyed hip hop.
June 25th, 2007 at 3:30 pm

June 25th, 2007 at 4:44 pm

June 25th, 2007 at 4:56 pm
I think what Pete was stating is that LYRICALLY, hip hop is dying. The majority of the south have simplified the lyrics and the beats. No one has anything to say other than “ballin” or “strippers” or “Guns”. Radio sucks because its all about who will pay the most to get their record played. Why do you think there are so many “Dopeboy” artists?? Hip hop is dying because there is no emphasize on the DJ or the B-Boy. Radio must broaden it’s horizons and play more of a variety of music. Even R&B is dumbed down!!
June 25th, 2007 at 5:24 pm
Young C’dona… im 21 years old and I know some 16-25 year old people who are saying the same thing. It seems the older cats complain more because they were around when it first started up. I know I never thought Hip Hop would fall apart like this.
June 25th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
good job.
of course, old cats always don’t like young one…maybe, they’ don’t think about commercial success in the golden era. but how do they think if they are young and creative in nowadays?
anyway, still we have some good music we can listen to, if we want to find out…
June 25th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
dat nigga pete man damn comedy
June 25th, 2007 at 9:07 pm
Quick history lesson… SOME OF YOU GUYS QUICK TO DOWN SNAP MUSIC.. OR SOUTH MUSIC OR CRUNK MUSIC.. HIP HOP IS NOT DEAD… LETS REWIND 10 YEARS AGO WHEN SAMPLES WAS ALL OVER THE RADIO… NOT JUST A SMALL SAMPLE THEY WERE JACKING THE ENTIRE BEAT AND CALLED THEMSELVES PRODUCERS.. I was the biggest fan of Notorious BIG however juicy and big poppa were stolen beats.. nothing special about the production but BIG made that shit tight… which made him one of the greatest… Today the beat and production and the video makes an artist… its differnet times.. people were complaing 10 years ago about samples… now they complaining about snap and kiddie hip hop… if you 28 and older you are part of the few people that buy hip hop… they make this music for the people that buy the shit… peter rock needs to understand that the younger crowd want that fun snappy dancing hip hop that im not into but i dont turn my nose up at it either.. Its music and its a business… never forget that.. when you hear that wack shit on the radio… remember its targeted to a certain audience..
June 25th, 2007 at 10:37 pm
Where is the music on the radio thats targeted to the 28 and older crowd???
June 26th, 2007 at 4:42 am

I feel ya… the oldies stations are stuck in a time warp, but think about this.. What advertisers do you think would spend their money with old school hip hopers? Don’t get me wrong I would love the idea of an oldie hip hop station but you wont see tom Joyner and other folks go that way for another 15 years…. Sad thing is a lot of peeps don’t know who Pete rock is.. im 34 and when I have talks with the younger generation they have no clue about their hip hop history… When I mention fat boys, Brand Nubian, Beastie Boys, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B and Rakim they look clueless…

Hold up Pete…now I do agree that commercial radio is bad, the major video channels are horrible and there’s a lot of coonery goin on across the board (especially from Program Directors), but to make sweeping statements like: there is no good hip-hop being made and no good r&b artists is just plain wrong.
There are at least 10 excellent “real hip hop” albums released each year whether they show up on our radar or not is up to us. You can’t listen to Joell Ortiz, Black Milk, Kweli/Madlib, Little Brother or anything by Freddie Foxxx and tell me that it ain’t no good hip hop out.
People get carried away speaking sometimes.
And for the record Pete, you are mad, so am I and a lot of people should be the way we’ve let our culture become so corrupted. It’s Ok to be mad out here cause that’s the only way to bring about some change.
With that said Pete you still my guy so go on and drop something new so you can save us all. lol.

I guess he means “for the most part”. But Its definitly not just a south thing.
1.)Im tired of New York rappers actin harder than they really are.
2.) Im tired of radio playin shit 2,364,874 times to get you to like it.
3.) And yes…there need to be a hip-hop station for the one who like music with substance.
4.) People need to realize that Hip-Hop is being takin right out of the hands of tha people who created it, and being passed off as the REAL THING.
5.) And Yes…Alot of those people are comin from tha south, and in return its destroyin our youth and culture.
….Live HIP-HOP LIVE!!!!
June 26th, 2007 at 10:32 pm
Its more the companies killing hip hop more than the south in a way. The major record labels are obviously paying off the radio stations to play the same fucking rotaions ALL DAY LONG! In the process brain washing the teenagers to tell them whats hot instead of playing a WIDE VARAITY and letting US the listener decide

Hello! Good Site! Thanks you! gwegkjeqtffngt

First of all, I have been a diehard Hip Hop fan since the very early 80’s
Secondly, Pete is my favorite producer! I will always, always buy his shit…….
Thirdly, he needs to acknowledge that for WHATEVER reasons, the lack of solid rap can also be attributed to the fact that all of the hottest acts from the late 90’s (ie Pete and CL, Tribe, etc..) have all broken up, could that also be the reason there is so much “garbage” in Hip Hop these days????????
February 4th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
It’s not the south that is bringing down hip-hop. It’s lack of balance. Back during 84-95 or so you could hear good music from all over. Party records,Gritty underground, political joints all got love and the art form/culture grew. Now only one type of songs get played and hip-hop is worse off for it.
February 4th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
We also need to start putting Dj’s and radio stations that take Payola on front street. There is a lot of good joints that never see the light of day because of this.
