People, as much as I like Russell Simmons and what he has did for Hip-Hop, he really doesn’t are one way or the other. Russel is more concerned on makin that paper and where that next dollar is comin from. For example, this new book that he’s comin out with. Im not hating, but I doubt Russ wants to clean up words like bitch, hoe, ect that have made him millions lol. Just be real with yourselves people.

Part of this glorification of negativity IS RUSSELL’S FAULT!

Russell should get some of the blame for artists that spread the negative under his watch the same way he should get credit for putting out groups like P.E. in the first place.

People tend to say things like “don’t be mad cause he got this or that, blah blah, etc…” but it’s not about that cause Chuck never did what he did strictly for money (and by the way, I know Bill Stephney and from what I hear Chuck’s doing very well financially and set for life). This is about how much of ourselves and our art form are we willing to compromise for money and fame.

However, I do feel like Russell made a step in the right direction (which Chuck should’ve pointed out) by trying to do something even though he’s not being completely honest with himself or the hip hop nation. Right before he turned over Def Jam he had given up on acts like Public Enemy and others.

Also, as far as Russell and Chuck meeting, yes that should happen, but their sordid history likely means that it won’t…one of those things that makes too much sense.

LOL thats fuckin ridiculous, hes the only one trying fighting on hip hop’s side and chuck trying 2 bash him. dont be mad cuz he started his own record company/clothing line that would make him a multi-millionaire, and you didnt save ur money. russell simmons doesnt write these demeaning lyrics, the rappers do. 95% of these rappers suxx ass anyway. is rap demeaning towards women? YES. will it change? NO. rap when done right can be poetry (only built 4 cuban linx, ready 2 die, illmatic, reasonable doubt, the documentary, the chronic, the doggfather, and any verse by Rakim). but 2 blame this and put it on russell’s doorstep is poposterous. this isn’t his doing or his mess, it’s the rappers, they have 2 fix it

Thats the problem with us, instead of coming together and fixing our own differences and keeping it in the family we hold pres confrences to disrespect each other. I understand where Chuck is coming from, but we need to have a unified front because the powers that be are trying to destroy hip hop. Chuck should have got at Russ in a closed door meeting. The enemy will use this to divide us as much as possible. Divide and conquer.
