Tupac’s Mother Works To Preserve His Legacy
Afeni Shakur, mother of Tupac Shakur (2Pac), the most successful rap artist in music history, and David Schulhof, co-CEO of EverGreen Copyrights (EverGreen), a leading independent global music publishing and marketing company, today announced a partnership to develop new opportunities for the late iconic rapper’s songs, including future releases of Tupac albums that have never been heard.
Keeping his memory alive or milking his legend for all it’s worth???
More Info Below…
“I believe that after 10 years I have done as much as I can on my own to further the creative aspect of Tupac’s music. I’m looking forward to working with EverGreen’s publishing and creative marketing teams to reach a more global market and to expand the opportunities for my son’s music,” said Afeni Shakur.
“Tupac was one of the most prolific songwriters that ever lived. He had a tremendous impact both as a songwriter and social activist, and left behind a body of work that will forever attract generations of fans. We are honored to be working with Afeni Shakur and helping to realize the full potential of this catalog,” said Schulhof, whose company also publishes and promotes songs written or recorded by MC Hammer (”You Can’t Touch This”), Teddy Riley (”My Prerogative”), Michael Jackson (”Remember The Time”), Joe Cocker (”You Are So Beautiful”), Todd Rundgren (”Hello It’s Me”), Nick Drake (”Pink Moon”), Bill Monroe (”Blue Moon of Kentucky”), and Eric Clapton (”Cocaine”).
As the first rapper to ever have a No.1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart and the highest selling rap/hip-hop artist of all time, Tupac has sold more than 67 million copies worldwide, with 38 million units sold in the U.S. alone. Record sales of Tupac’s posthumous albums have exceeded 20 million units. Tupac has garnered 11 platinum albums and 1 gold album. Eight posthumous albums containing previously unreleased material have all been certified platinum with sales of more than a million copies each. Rolling Stone ranked Tupac Shakur at No. 6 on their list of 100 Immortal Artists of All Time. VH1 named Tupac as No. 3 in their 50 Greatest Hip Hop Artists series.
Some of the projects that are currently in development to immortalize the legendary rapper are a forthcoming remix album made up of recordings from two of his biggest selling albums, All Eyez On Me and Makaveli, a script written by Tupac while serving time in prison called “Live 2 Tell”, a feature film biopic, a Tupac based Broadway musical with the Mosaic Media Group, a video game which will also coincide with a “Best of 2Pac” CD, and several forthcoming posthumous albums, some of which shall contain music created by Tupac in its original form in addition to previously unreleased music. Additionally, in 2008 Becker & Mayer is publishing the book Tupac Remembered, an intimate portrayal featuring interviews of political leaders, actors, rap artists and others who had a personal connection to him.
In 1997 Ms. Shakur founded the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation that provides training and support for students who aspire to enhance their creative talents. The Foundation supports the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts, which provides programs in drama, dance, music and creative writing as well as community outreach programs focusing on such issues as education and conflict resolution. The organization also runs a Performing Arts Day Camp for youth ages twelve to eighteen.

it really is ridiculous. there is no more new material to be heard from tupac. next thing they’re gonna find someone who sounds like 2pac and rap for them to make a supposed 2pac album. afeni shakur doesn’t care about her son enough because it seems she cares more about his value in the industry to add more numbers in her bank account.

looks like her mother really doesn’t want to stop banking off of her dead son… 10 years later the money still isn’t enough for her. greedy ass bitch

if he worked that hard his work should be heard, just dont put corny rappers on his tracks. for all we know he could have been putting music up just in-case he died. His mom is honoring his name with memorials and centers so stop acting if she pimping dude. what she is just supposed to let millions of dollars worth of music sit in a vault. she honoring dude through his music and getting paid. win-win situation

May 17th, 2007 at 8:34 am
Um, the article said they are releasing music never heard, not rehashing old shit. As a fan of his music, I look forward to hearing it and in a way that is keeping him alive to his mother. She is making sure we don’t forget about him and the young ones will know about him as well. What better way to immortalize him?
May 17th, 2007 at 10:25 am
i dont see anyone talking about how notorious b.i.g albums are being put out is his mother trying to get money off of her dead song they said its new material its her son and his music so if she wants to release it to the world she can when biggie just had a cd released nobody was saying anything yall some haterz 2pac G.O.A.T

How many BIG albums have come out since his passing? About 2. How many Pac albums have come out since his passing? About 8. That’s why people are making a big deal. Let the man rest in peace for once. Tupac will not lose his legacy if they stop releasing his albums.
May 18th, 2007 at 9:24 pm
they should really release his original material! they be fucking around with it like switching verses in certain songs and featuring these lame rappers on his shit. i woulda rather hear how he made the songs initially without having any of those corny edits. for example loyal to the game, that shit was just all fucked up. hope it wont happen again but i expect another one.
May 18th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
and whoever sayin that she jus releasing his shit for the money are not lookin at the other side of it. afeni shakur did reach out to the community and even built an art program for the kids. cant ignore the fact that shes doing something useful with the money rather than blowing it all away for her personal needs.
