Akon Is Dropped From Verizon Due To, "Simulated Rape",; Plans Tour With 50
“This week the partnership ended,” Verizon said in a statement sent to FOX News. “We have music services on our cellphone service and we were promoting him as one of the artists. The other part of the sponsorship was the Gwen Stefani tour, of which he was an opening act. We are no longer sponsoring the tour.”
Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds said Akon should be prosecuted.

Dates have yet to be announced, but he said the worldwide tour will feature different openers in various parts of the globe.

She shouldn’t have been in the club (obviously), but Akon should’ve been more careful. It’s been a big year for him and the money and endorsements were coming in. You’ve gotta be mindful of your image when you start dealing with corporate America. The guys in suits get down themselves, but in private, as to not project a negative image to the people they’re pushing products to. You can’t be harmonizing a love song in a commercial for a major, mainstream company and then get seen on stage dry fucking anyone, let alone a 15-year-old. I’m sure he got caught up in the moment and wanted to do something crazy for the fans at the show, but fuck that, what’s more important is protecting the income stream, and maybe opening up others. Look at Jigga. Even if he wanted to, he couldn’t go and make a “shoot ‘em up, bitches and dope” video at this stage. He’s obligated to his corporate sponsors to uphold that clean, businesslike (but just edgy enough to appeal to the young, black demographic) image. Akon just cost himself some paper. And to me, that’s the most important thing outta this. Who cares that some teen slut got/gave a simulation fuck? Her problems are hers and her family’s.
