Ali From Cali Reviews Nas’ House Of Blues Concert

After a month of patiently awaking hip hop’s funeral, the event finally appeared on May 1st, 2007.  Behind the casket, roses and skulls, there he was, DJ (producer) L.E.S. with the “NaS” banner in the background.  The BET 106 & Park freestyle champion, Johnny Cash, came out first and rocked two songs.  Following the songs with a vicious sixteen bars of acappella.

As he disappeared in the fog, Nasir “Esco” Jones’ voice cheered the crowd.  Nas came out energetic, live, and powerful.  He took off his shades within the first song, and the “look in his eyes was wow” He was not drunk, nor was he high, which allowed him to remember his lyrics and input emotion in his art.  The performance, aided by his brother Jungle, seemed to have included every song possible. He even started “ether” but after a quick chorus, right before he was going to say “f**k jay-z” Nas cut his throat with his fingers and L.E.S. scratched “Black Republican” Nas told the crowd: “beef is played-out!” From Illmatic to Stillmatic to Hiphop is dead, he seemingly performed every song possible.  He also included some of his earlier work that most were really surprised by.  Although Nas shook his head when L.E.S mentioned lil wayne and baby kissing and said  ”50 cent and Dipset are soft” his whole theme was empowerment of the people, peace and growth.

His performance of “one mic” was the most emotional as he did the whole song on his knees.  He was signing cds, t-shirts, posters and cell phones in between songs and even after the show ended.  He did not bring out The Game and KRS-1 as he did the night before at the House Of Blues in Hollywood, but he did bring all of him self.  He rocked the show and people did not want to leave after it was all over.  Hip-hop might be dead, but nights like this remind us of how great hip-hop can be.

I was at this concert and NAS KILLED, he absolutely murdered, dismembered it. the best ever doing what the best ever does. spitting true life changing music. one

  14. Truth Says:

I was at the concert. I personally thought it was way too short. For one he came out an hour late and then finished early. He didn’t preform the whole songs just snippets, and for a bunch of songs he would do like only 4 - 8 Bars and then cut it. I was disappointed. I think about all the other Hip Hop shows I’ve been too, and this one was farthest from the best. Maybe Hip Hop is so dead to him he can’t stay out that long.
