RealTalk With Lil Flip: Natural Born Hustler

RealTalkNY: How did you get started in rap?
Lil Flip: Doing mixtapes and doing our thing at talent shows. We use to do little mixtapes and stuff, and do shows in middle school.
RealTalkNY: How did you get the name Lil Flip?
Lil Flip: Man, cause I use to be flipping that money and doing flips. 3 reasons, my Grandma said I was always trying to do flips. I would always be trying to sell something. Whether it was candy, stuff from wholesale, I was always selling something. I always use to crack jokes and in my days it was Richard Prior and Eddie Murphy being big in comedy. My Grandmother grew up laughing at Flip Wilson. She use to call me a flip, so I kind of just kept the name.
RealTalkNY: How did you get the alias Freestyle King?
Lil Flip: When I met DJ Screw, most of the rappers he worked with could freestyle, but not for longer lengths without falling off. I could kind of go for hours.
RealTalkNY: How was life as an independent rapper?
Lil Flip: It was cool, it was a grind, it was well worth it. A lot of concerts with fucked up mics, a few shows of having to rap on a pool table. But you know, its all good, I wouldn’t trade that shit for nothing.
RealTalkNY: You were offered a deal with Def Jam, what made you turn it down?
Lil Flip: They only offered a quarter of a million.
RealTalkNY: How did your life change after Underground Legend went platinum?
Lil Flip: Basically, more people being jealous of my situation.
RealTalkNY: How do you feel about Nas saying Hip Hop is Dead?
Lil Flip: I feel everybody has their opinion of what they consider Hip Hop. The way they view Hip Hop in NY is different from how we view it.
RealTalkNY: What things are you involved in besides rap?
Lil Flip: I got my liquor out, “Lucky Nites,” I got a soda coming, “Gangsta Lean.” A reality show, “The American Rapper,” my Clover G radio show on XM radio. I got Clover G TV on youtube, I direct my own videos and make beats.
RealTalkNY: Was, “I Need Mine,” intentionally leaked by Sony?
Lil Flip: Yes, Fuck I hate them, nah I’m playing with you. Hell yea they did it intentionally, that’s why I went back to the studio and recorded a brand new album. Just to show them they ain’t going to stop my shit.
RealTalkNY: What can we expect from the new album?
Lil Flip: You can expect a down south rapper who is not afraid to take chances and push the envelope when it comes to making records.
RealTalkNY: Who are some people featured on the album?
Lil Flip: Rick Ross, Z-Ro, Yukmouth, Nate Dogg, Mike Jones, Chamillionaire, Big Worm & Squad Up.
RealTalkNY: Can you tell us about the 3,2,1, remix?
Lil Flip: It’s like 20 something minutes, we got some big guest on there. I’m sitting on there getting ready to drop that bomb on them.
RealTalkNY: What is the next single?
Lil Flip: We got this 3 songs of the south going, we pushing, “I Got Money,” with Rick Ross. We shot that video to that with Jim Jones. I got a single called, “Fly Boy,” we shot that video already. I got a track called, ” Busta a Clip,” that the streets are loving and I shot the video for that and put it on youtube. We going hard in the streets, the radio and the club.
RealTalkNY: What advice you have for aspiring rappers?
Lil Flip: Basically keep god first, and don’t try to help too many people, before you get yourself in the dump cause you ain’t got it like that.
RealTalkNY: Any last words?
Lil Flip: Buy the album, in stores now, anybody want to buy beats call 501-960-4649 or 832-888-8850. Don’t call bullshitting, have the money ready. To the fans, go by the album, you getting 36 songs. If they want an album that will last them 8 months buy my shit. If you want 2 weeks worth of music by somebody else’s shit.

Where can you get 3,2,1 go remix?
April 9th, 2007 at 6:21 am
not to diss you or anything man but you need to step your interview game up, the questions are like the most annoying to ask a rapper, where did you get your name, etc… get some better questions and rappers will be happy to answer them and it will be more interesting to read, this interview is pretty much useless

You should’ve asked lil flip how relevent will his music be now that TI called him out. His G pass got revoked. Ask him about his Liquor “Lucky Nites” I’ve never seen it at the liquor store, must not be very lucrative.
