RealTalk With Bobby Valentino, "Special Occasion," In Stores May 8th

I got a chance to hit Bobby Valentino’s listening session for, “Special Occasion.” Got a chance to ask him a few question after it was done, wasn’t going for an all out interview, just a few questions on video. Also got my little review of the album.

Now to the album, production is superb. His first single, “Turn The Page,” was a cool track, but the video didn’t get too much play(Bobby V said he was tight about that, the video cost bread). His latest single, “Anonymous,” features Timbaland and a fire beat. Others producers on the album include Rodney Jerkins, Bryan Cox, Tim & Bob. Insomniax & Sean Garret. Featured guest include Ludacris & Fabolous.

Bobby V wrote 3/4’s of the album and has a minimal amount of guest. The album starts with a fast pace and slowly calms down as you progress. The album has a few fast paced club tracks like, Anonymous & Checkin For Me. The pace is slowed down while Bobby V reminiscences about a woman in his past in, “Rearview,” featuring Luda. Bobby V has a Jagged Edge like sound on, “Home Is Where You Belong,” and drops a hot track with Fabolous called, “Let Him Go.” “I Was Wrong,” is heavily influenced by Stevie Wonder, which you can notice as soon as it starts. The smooth beat reminds me of Donnell Jones, “Where I Wanna Be,” track. Bobby V remakes a Babyface song on, “Soon As I Get Home,” which sounded like an old school R&B track. The last track played, “Over & Over,” is 8 minutes and again has an old school R&B vibe.

Overall I was feeling the album, a nice mix of old and new R&B flavor. Bobby Valentino said he wants to go back the roots of R&B and you can clearly hear it several tracks. I feel the first two singles were cool, but there are better tracks on the album that people should hear.
