Don Imus Gives An Apology, Talks To Al Sharpton
I don’t understand the comments people are leaving in the first Don Imus post. Why are people comparing comedians to a sports announcer? He is there to talk about sports, not comment on how they look. What in the world gives him a reason to call them hoes? Stop crying reverse racism. If a black guy calls a woman a, “nappy headed hoe,” he will get it as well. If it was a black sports announcer I would be just as disappointed , if not even more.

“Stop crying reverse racism. If a black guy calls a woman a, “nappy headed hoe,” he will get it as well.”
yea right.
this occurs in rap lyrics ALL the time, and has been in it for decades. “nigga this, nigga that” “slap that b*tch, slap that hoe” not once have i heard black rappers being called racist for it. black comedians too. it doesn’t MATTER the profession… why not suspend them too?
of course when a white person says it, he’s immediately racist.
one has to be really blind or ignorant to not see this
April 10th, 2007 at 10:38 am
Give this man above an award. Couldn’t have said it any better. Imus gave his apology, so lets move on. There are more pressing issues going on in this world.
April 10th, 2007 at 11:17 am
ur right in some sense but this guy was comenting on a womens basketball game there was no reason for him to say that no reason an if you think its ok to say that just because rappers say it then theres somthin wrong with you
April 10th, 2007 at 11:38 am
Yeah, Imus is trivial, but the fact that he consistently gets big name politicians and media figures on his show (many of whom continue to defend him) is an insight into how incestuous the media-political relationship has gotten. Yes, this is just one stupid comment, but the fact that he consistently makes such comments and consistently stays chummy with members of the politco-media establishment *is*, I would argue, an important point.

BILL,YOUR LOGIC IS SO FLAWED I FEEL ASHAMED AS A BLACK PERSON TO EVEN TYPE THIS.
LET ME ASK YOU A QUESTION:DO WHITE PEOPLE CALL EACH OTHER HONKY’S IN AN OFFENSIVE MANNER?OFAYS?PALE FACES?NO.SO WHY THE FUCK SHOULD A WHITEMAN BE ALLOWED TO CALL BLACK FEMALES NAPPY HEADED HOES?DO WE CALL WHITE WOMEN HONKY’S?DO BLACK ANNOUNCERS CRITIQUE WHITE WOMEN’S LOOKS IN SPORTS?
AS A RADIO SHOW HOST,WAS IT NECESSARY FOR HIM TO CRITIQUE THEIR LOOKS WITH A RACIAL COMMENT?WAS IT EVEN NECESSARY TO CRITIQUE THEIR LOOKS IN THEIR FIRST PLACE,IS HE PAID TO COMMENT ON THEIR LOOKS OR THE GAME?
YOU’RE TRYING TO COMPARE RAP LYRICS TO THIS INCIDENT.DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA OF HOW IDIOTIC THAT IS?WHILE YOU’RE AT IT,WHY NOT COMPARE HIS ACTIONS TO ROCK MUSIC?POP MUSIC?
WHEN ANY BLACK PERSON SAYS SOMETHING OFFENSIVE ABOUT ANY RACE,HIS/HER ASS SHOULD BE PUT IN CHECK.WHEN ANY WHITE PERSON SAYS SOMETHING OFFENSIVE ABOUT ANY RACE,HIS/HER ASS SHOULD BE PUT IN CHECK.THIS IS NOT A LAW,BUT MORALLY,THIS IS ACCURATE.
SO TO ANYONE WHO ACTUALLY BELIEVES THIS WAS A SIMPLE MISUNDERSTANDING,GO TO ANY LIBRARY,PICK UP ANY BOOK/ARTICLE WITH MARTIN LUTHER KINGS LETTER FROM BIRMINGHAM JAIL,READ IT,AND THEN COME BACK,IF YOU’RE STILL TEMPTED TO TYPE SOMETHING IGNORANT,THEN YOU HONESTLY SHOULDNT EVEN BE ONLINE,GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND LEARN A THING OR TWO ABOUT HISTORY.
April 10th, 2007 at 12:41 pm
THE MORE AND MORE I HEAR THIS STORY, THE MORE I GET ANNOYED BY IT. OF COURSE IMUS WASN’T GONNA SAY THEM “NIGGER” HOES, OR SUMTHIN ALONG THOSE LINES, HE JUST SAID SUMTHIN THAT WAS A LIL LESS DIRECT, SO THAT I COULD CATCH PEOPLE’S ATTENTION, AND IT DID.
THE WHOLE POINT IS, WOMEN’S BASKETBALL IN GENERAL (COLLEGE OR PROS)ALREADY GET A LOT OF FLACK B/C PEOPLE STEREOTYPE THEM AS BEING “LESBIAN”,”MANLY”, ETC. JUST BECAUSE THEY PLAY A SPORT THAT IS MOSTLY DOMINATED BY MEN. FOR HIM TO EVEN MAKE A COMMENT ABOUT WOMEN’S BASKETBALL AND WOMEN IN GENERAL WAS SILLY AND IDIOTIC. IN THAT CASE I DO BELIEVE THAT HE SHOULD BE REPREMANDED FOR HIS ACTIONS.
April 10th, 2007 at 12:41 pm
To “straight to the bank”: calm down, buddy. The previous comments are completely accurate. There IS a double standard- period. And as a black man myself, in 2007, I could care less what ANY race says about ANY body. Do you know why? It’s because in 2007 “sticks and stones” takes on a whole new meaning. The anger you express may have had merit up until the millenium, but if you still get ticked off about what white, black, blue, or yellow people say about you or your race, I feel the sorriest for you.
Let me explain something to you, this is America. Our rights extend ALL THE WAY up to someones nose. In other words, I can do whatever I want to until it hurts or prevents someone else from the right to life, liberty, and property. So unless Imus keeps these “nappy headed hos” from those rights, he CAN say whatever he wants. Just like everyone in this post can say whatever they want…including you.
The reason “sticks and stones” takes on a whole new meaning is this: in 2007, WORDS do not come attached with PHYSICAL oppression anymore…period. I know that when Imus says this, I can turn off my TV set or change the channel. I know that when Kramer says “nigger”, I can leave the club (or laugh at his cry for quietus).
You began your rant with an ironic use of words “I feel ashamed as a black person”. Sadly, you should be. You let the blunder of one commentator and a couple comments drive you up a wall. It’s a radio show, it’s not a riot or a lynching. Who cares what this guy says? I am willing to bet that you’ve had your share of “white jokes” with friends just like the comment bloggers have had their share of racially motivated quips. But until Bill and Imus bring out shotguns, pitchforks, ropes, guns, attack dogs, fire, bombs, police, the national guard (get the picture?), you should probably just grow some balls and keep it moving.

I should be ashamed because I do not approve of a racial insult?Do you know how uneducated that makes you sound?
He can say whatever he wants, sure, but use logic for a second:His rants reach millions of listeners each day,do you know how far an insult can go?apparently, you don’t,that is why you ignored the fact that Imus begged to maintain his job,and got off with a laughable 2 week suspension.
Do you think Imus apologized because he realized he had said something offensive,or because he simply had nothing to do at the time?
The whole “Oh,there’s a double standard!” argument doesn’t apply to this:Did those girls insult him?If you were a girl on that team, would you appreciate being called a nappy headed hoe?Ask yourself these questions before you attempt to type away on your keyboard.
The fact of the matter is:A caucasian insulted african american girls. You may not take this as a serious issue(Judging by your “calm down buddy” opening),but to us people who actually give a damn about these racist insults by people in power(Another person who deserves sacking is Bill O’reilly),this incident shouldnt just pass by,it has to be dealt with.
Have I had my share of white jokes with my friends?I’m an adult, not a 7 year old,why on Earth would I find humor in jokes about another race?
Quite frankly,if anyone doesnt find what Imus said offensive, then I really feel pity for them. Those girls did nothing to deserve an insult, and here we have people avoiding the issue with idiotic comparisons.

you cant compare a comedian to this situation

here we go again. our black “leaders” protesting someone who says things plenty of blacks say ALL the time. i know, i know, he shouldn’t be saying this(out loud). but the fact is people of any race can and will call any women a ho or something else not so flattering and black people disrespect their women on a daily basis(heard any rap in the last 20yrs). where are these “leaders” when luda says “move bitch get out the way”?? funny how your panties get twisted when this white guy says “hardcore ho’s”. but were you just as mad when jay said its “money, cash,ho’s”???. did Al & jessie boycot, protest, or condem def jam? russel simmons? lyor cohen? No! so lets stop acting like this is sooo wrong. yeah, he should have used better judgement, but if we asked for jigga or snoop to be fired then we’ll see how quickly they get support from the same people they’re calling “niggas and ho’s”. fire him? maybe, but lets all take a look in the mirror and see if we havent said some questionable things about the women of this world. so in the timeless words of snoop…”which one of you bitches like me?”
April 10th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
yea everyone shud jus let imus be,it aint liek he insulted anyone or nuthin huh
April 10th, 2007 at 2:15 pm
i believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion but i would have to rerectify the comment that “gro” left. Don Imus singled out a womens basketball team for no apparent reason, when rappers and comedians are telling racist and seist jokes they are speaking in general not to one specific person, thats where the difference lies in this situation, not saying that its right and as people of color we have to work on our own issues, but there is a problem with a well known figure who is heard allover the country making statments like this, if nothing is done and not punishment or fuss about this incident came to light white people all over would find it acceptable to talk to black women like that, because they dont know, this is all an act of ignorance on the old mans part, i believe he was trying to be funny and over stepped his boundaries, as a black women i am offended and i would be offended if someone singled me out on national televison and called me such names.. and this could all be some publicity sunt to boost the old mans ratings..before this incident i never even heard of don imnus..now hes allover the news.so this had helped his career…at the end of the day dont get mad get money
April 10th, 2007 at 2:17 pm
OK, to “Straight to the Bank”, this will be my last response.
First, I’ll respond to “why on Earth would I find humor in jokes about another race?”. Get real for a second. One answer…human beings typically find humor in jokes that are funny. Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, and other black comedians make fun of every race on earth all the time. And I’ll be damned if you sit here and say you’ve never laughed at one of those skits ever in your life. If you haven’t, maybe you should watch some so you could lighten up. Sure, *this Imus thing wasn’t funny (however I did laugh in shock)*, but don’t act like you don’t have a funny-bone for any racial humor whatsoever because you’re lying…period. We all do it. We’ve all poked fun at other races or at least been amused by others doing it. Again, Imus wasn’t funny, but don’t lie to yourself either.
Second, there IS a double standard here. The Wayans Bros made a movie called “White Chicks”, man. “White Chicks”. I personally give the movie a D, but you didn’t hear any repercussions (and you suggested “WHEN ANY BLACK PERSON SAYS SOMETHING OFFENSIVE ABOUT ANY RACE,HIS/HER ASS SHOULD BE PUT IN CHECK”) for their actions. Wouldn’t you say that there were probably some white women offended by that movie? But did anything happen? Do you know why? It’s because they have every right to make that movie as long as people are willing to pay for it. Imus can go Kramer tomorrow on his show and if people want to listen he has every right to do so (again, up until he prevents someone from their inalienable rights).
There are racists. I am in no way trying to refute that. But there are certain situations that don’t require these uproars for these bland revolutions and protests. I already said this, but honestly, who cares about Imus? If you weren’t a fan of his, chances are you definitely won’t be now. If you were a fan of his, chances are you still will be. So in the end, what will this change? He has hurt no one. He has not prevented anyone from their rights. He may have hurt a few feelings, but so what?
Lastly, I’ll respond to “Do you know how uneducated that makes you sound?”. How you felt that warranted an attack on my intellect is a mystery. To me, it IS a shame that someone would allow (only) the words of others to affect their emotions and psyche to the point of resentment…period. Maybe you meant to say “overly-critical” or “cynical”, but “uneducated”? Probably not.

okk imma sayy thatt i find Imus’ comment racist u say that its isnt because rap songs say it and other black men do?? well if u say it like that then white men make comments on white women too butt when black men make comments on white women its still a big deal soo BIGGG UPP to straight to the bankk
April 10th, 2007 at 5:26 pm
1)You said it yourself, this isnt funny. Now I ask you,is Imus a standup comedian? You’re ignoring that Dave Chappelle,Chris Rock, etc, arent on stage being racists. They’re on stage being entertainers, they are paid to JOKE(Look at this word very carefully before you hit the submit button)about everything and anyone.Do I find Chappelles jokes funny? Some, but not all.Do I find Imus’s ignorant racist statement funny? No.
2)White chicks? You’re trying to compare the Wayans Bros to Imus?Look at #1.Did the Wayans Bros insult white people? No.Did they wear white makeup to look like caucasian women in order to star in a COMEDIC film?Yes.After watching White Chicks, you know it was either a good/bad comedy movie. After listening to Imus’s comment, you don’t know whether or not this man is educated.Notice the difference.
3)”He may have hurt a few feelings, but so what?”.Yet another disappointing comment. How many girls are on the basketball team? How many of those girls have family and friends? How many viewers who listen/watch Imus are african-american?Ask yourself these questions before you make false claims.
If it’s a shame to you that someone else’s words can affect a person emotionally, then you’re most likely a minor.Only a fool would think that words have no effect on people,if I was told right now that I lost my job,do you think i’ll just brush it off and say “Well, the boss didn’t punch me,so i’m not hurt” ?If you lack emotions, dont assume everyone else does as well.

April 10th, 2007 at 6:40 pm
I HEAR A LOT OF PEOPLE SAYING FORGET ABOUT IT, ITS NOT THAT SERIOUS, BUT EVEN THOUGH YOU MAY FEEL IT DOESNT CONCERN YOU, YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT THE WAY THE TEAM FELT AFTER HEARING HIS OUTRAGOUS COMMENTS. THAT IS WHAT REALLY MATTERS. IF OTHER PEOPLE IN THE PAST HAVE GOTTEN FIRED OVER ACTIONS LIKE THIS, HE NEEDS TO BE REPREMANDED THE SAME WAY.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:43 pm
ummmm. imus ain’t a sports announcer. he’s a shock jock who’s whole job is to say provocative things. his producer brought up ‘ho’ first and imus went with it. it was an outrageous statement that just wasn’t funny. doesn’t mean that imus is a racist, it’s just a slow news day/week cuz otherwise this wouldn’t be the top story on every channel and would have been long forgotten. there is a war going on in iraq right now, i could give a fukk about some radio dj saying some shit.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:24 pm
yea there is a war going on in iraQ…A POINTLESS ONE.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
OK so I lied, THIS is my last comment
(hopefully); again, to “Straight to the bank”
1.) “They’re on stage being entertainers, they are paid to JOKE”- Imus is a shock jock. Not only is he paid to joke, he’s paid to stir up controversy and analyze sports and damn near anything else critically. So your argument that “he’s not a comedian like Chris Rock so he can’t say that” is loose. He’s paid to SHOCK. Other examples: Howard Stern, Ms Jones, etc.
2.) “Did the Wayans Bros insult white people?No”—-OK, I’m assuming you saw “White Chicks” so I won’t even waste time responding to this statement in full. “White Chicks” was an insult to white women (i.e. white chicks); and last time I checked women were people. If you can’t see “White Chicks” as an insult to white women, perhaps we watched different movies.
3.)”Ask yourself these questions before you make false claims”. There’s nothing “false” about me wishing that we wouldn’t let guys like this drive us up a wall. “So what?” is a false statement? I don’t see your logic.
4.) “if I was told right now that I lost my job,do you think i’ll just brush it off and say “Well, the boss didn’t punch me,so i’m not hurt” ?If you lack emotions, dont assume everyone else does as well.”
Your boss telling you that you lost your job is totally different because **you actually lost your job**. Nothing physically happened to these girls. This is psyche we’re talking about with these girls. If he called them nappy-headed ho’s and then proceeded to put them on a street corner and wet their hair then you’d have a point. But he didn’t.
And don’t assume I lack emotion. On the contrary, I feel sorry the girls let this get to them that bad. These girls are winners, they SHOULD brush this off their shoulders.
If this one incident-these 3 measly words- “scarred [you] for life” (quote from team member), I pray to God that a SERIOUS issue of racism or sexism and a THREATENING situation that warrants a protest never comes up. You know why? We will have already let little shit like this destroy our mind, body, and soul.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
yall still talkin about this? look. he said some shit that u didnt like because it sounded racist. everytime something sounds racist black people CAN and WILL get offended. but it seemed like al sharpton was pushing it way too much. and it seems like u guys are pushing it way too much too. he apoligized. i talked to PLZ SAVE ZIMBABWE on here a few days ago, and the shit he was talkin about is way more important than this. he on some real shit. if u wanna see it, go to the TELL EM WHY U MAD SON post. i commend u BILL, cuz u said some shit about this from a white point of view that really makes sense. but u cant be mad that black people get offended at shit like this. white people was just whippin us wit chains and shit like 150 years ago. black women were gettin raped by their owners and shit man. white men do need to give black women the utmost respect
April 10th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
^my bad it was the ROSARIO DAWSON AND ROSE MCGOWEN ON THE COVER OF ROLLING STONE post. hey plz save zimbabwe, if u see this get at me
April 11th, 2007 at 1:36 am
1)You’re trying to convince me that because he’s a shock jock,it’s ok for him to use racial slurs and degrade girls who have done nothing whatsoever to him?Did you even bother reading the article I posted?
2)No,the movie was made with comedic intentions, and it was 100% fiction.By your very same logic, then any actor/actress who portrays a member of a different race is somewhat offensive, correct?I hope you know that acting is fake?Your logic is very flawed Perfect Dark.Is Imus an actor? Was he faking it when he used those vile words? Was his statement more offensive or comedic?
3)Your false claim is “He may have hurt a few feelings . . .”.You honestly think only 5 people were offended?10 people?50 people?Think again, because thousands have been offended by his derogatory words. Thus, your claim is false.
4)Oh.My.Lord.Here we have horrible logic again:Your logic is,as long as he didn’t physically do something, then it’s okay.So you’re basically saying, his racist comments would only be wrong if he had curled the girls hair?Drawn the tattoos on their body?Pimped them?Do you know how foolish this sounds?
“Let this get to them”.If I called your mother a red light district slut who gave birth to a premature donkey, what would you say?Would you not feel offended?Would you go up to your mom and laugh in her face?Quit acting like what Imus said was not offensive,I know not even one of those girls and yet as a person and an african-american I am offended.
This incident will most likely stay with those girls until they graduate, and even then the impact of the racism will follow them throughout their lives. They did not deserve to be discriminated against as no-one does, and this is not going to be ignored.
April 11th, 2007 at 7:17 am
1.) No, I am not trying to convince you that what he said was OK. Never in any of my posts have I said that his comments were OK. YOU said “is Imus a standup comedian? You’re ignoring that Dave Chappelle,Chris Rock, etc, arent on stage being racists. They’re on stage being entertainers, they are paid to JOKE about everything and anyone”. You said “they are paid to JOKE” and I am simply reminding you that Imus is paid to joke as well as stir up controversy. You need to know that he is paid to be just as “entertaining” as any other shock jock or comedian. That is also his job.
2.)”No,the movie was made with comedic intentions, and it was 100% fiction…Your logic is very flawed Perfect Dark”. First of all, unless you agree that these indeed were “nappy-headed ho’s”, than what he said WAS a fictitious statement. There is nothing true about what he said. Yes, he said it, but that does not make his assessment accurate. By the way, you’re fighting to give the Wayans Brothers a pass in the exact OPPOSITE way you said you would. Remember this? “WHEN ANY BLACK PERSON SAYS SOMETHING OFFENSIVE ABOUT ANY RACE,HIS/HER ASS SHOULD BE PUT IN CHECK”. So because it was made with comedic intentions it was OK? Well, what if a white girl saw it as racist (a completely valid argument)? What if these were two white guys painted over as black girls and they named it “Black Chicks”? If Will Ferrel and Steve Carrel stepped out right now and even THOUGHT about making a movie like that, not only would black people go ape-shit, the studio would probably cancel the movie based on content alone. Come on man, don’t give the Wayans Bros a pass on this. If you put Imus in check, there is no way you can’t put the Wayan’s in check. It’s 3 words versus a 2 hour major motion picture, pal. That movie was offensive…period. Yes, Imus was offensive too, but don’t give a 2 hour motion picture a pass and then hang a man over 3 stupid words.
3.) “Thus, your claim is false”. When I said that Imus may have hurt a few feelings, I was speaking sarcastically to highlight how insignificant I wish people would realize this is. You and I both know that was not a literal assessment.
4.) “Here we have horrible logic again…Do you know how foolish this sounds?” First, my entire argument thus far has been that these girls and everyone else needs to disregard these 3 measly words as a blunder on Imus’ part and move on. How can I display horrible logic by posing an example of how physical abuse should be taken more seriously than feeble attempts of verbal jest? OK, OF COURSE my example was far-fetched, but I bet you got my point. Sticks and Stones. These girls are winners and they shouldn’t let stuff like this break them down.
5.)”If I called your mother a red light district slut who gave birth to a premature donkey, what would you say?Would you not feel offended?Would you go up to your mom and laugh in her face” Sir, if you said those things about my mother I would laugh in pity for you. First off, the insult is asinine and wouldn’t be taken seriously. Second, I wouldn’t feel offended because those things ARE NOT TRUE. There are no nappy-headed ho’s on the Rutgers Women’s Basketball team.
Again, I am NOT saying what he said was not offensive. As I have said before, my points are these:
1.) Imus has every right to *say* whatever he wants on air as long as MSNBC pays him and he is not preventing anyone from their inalienable rights. Wayans can make a full length motion picture about “White Chicks”, Dave Chapelle can do a skit on “the Nigger family”; and Imus can say “nappy-headed ho’s”.
2.) These girls should take this as a fly on their shoulder. If Imus is as dumb and idiotic as we all agree he is, then his comments shouldn’t be taken as seriously as we are giving him credit for. For instance, I could see if Barack Obama or John Edwards said this…but Don Imus?? Imus?? Come on. Half the reason this is such a big deal is because we’re giving this guy too much power. Switch the station and move on.
April 11th, 2007 at 7:21 am
I could see if Barack Obama or John Edwards said this *and we all went crazy*
April 11th, 2007 at 8:27 am
To show you how crooked the media is; do you remember back when ludacris was doing the Pepsi comercials, and Bill O’reilly started boycotting him? Well, do you remember why Bill O’reilly was boycotting ludacris? It was because he was ‘calling woman bitches and hoes.” And come someone tell me how long it took before ludacris was fired from the pepsi comercials? In a matter of days! Pepsi didn’t suspend ludacris for 2 weeks, they didnt slap him on the wrist, they dropped him like a hot bisquit.
So if anyone thinks rappers don’t catch hell for calling woman bitches and hoes, they are wrong. So there really is no double standard. It’s not acceptable in the black community, and it certainly isn’t acceptable coming from this moron.
April 11th, 2007 at 8:30 am
Oh, and has Bill o’reilly been boycotting Don Imus? I think not…
April 11th, 2007 at 8:42 am
Don Imus sucks but theres other shit to worry about ignore this man and he will go away and in response to number 5 we can all hate imus and it was dumb wat he said but freedom of speech only person that shud hate him is himself for hatin on innocent young woman for no damn reason at all he didnt say the n word or anythin i mean he spoke but he sucks at life shud be fired just to show the Rutgers team respect and show that channel doesnt accept that kind of bullshit
April 11th, 2007 at 11:02 am
“When I said that Imus may have hurt a few feelings, I was speaking sarcastically to highlight how insignificant I wish people would realize this is.”
I wont even bother anymore,if you still think this issue is insignificant, then what’s the point?
But let me clear some comments you said:
“Second, I wouldn’t feel offended because those things ARE NOT TRUE.”
So racism isn’t true,it’s fiction?Do you think that because those girls are not whores, that calling them so wont have any effect on them?
“First, my entire argument thus far has been that these girls and everyone else needs to disregard these 3 measly words as a blunder on Imus’ part and move on.”
Whoa there.Hmm,if it was a blunder, why didn’t he offer an apology on the spot? Why did he continue and not try and correct his mistakes then and there?Claiming that what Imus said was a blunder is ignorance.Wasn’t your claim that since he’s a shock jock he can say whatever he wants? Then why do you now consider it a blunder? Why is he apologizing if he can say whatever he wants, since you think that only if he had touched those girls it would then be offensive, why is he apologizing for words he uttered?
“So because it was made with comedic intentions it was OK?”You just answered your own question. They made a comedic movie filled with fiction, lies, fakeness, etc. You’re telling me that it’s offensive because they applied white makeup inorder to have a better story? Are the Wayans brother’s white women,or did they play white women in the movie?By your logic, then 95% of hollywood movies are offensive, since they portray characters of different culture, occupation, color, etc.?I guess Will Smith was offensive when he acted like a soldier in Independence day, because he’s not really a soldier, right?Maybe,Jennifer Lopez was offending all maids in the world because she portrayed one in Maid In Manhattan? Was Leonardo Di Caprio offending South African men when he acted as a South African man in Blood Diamond?
Your comparison of ficticious work of art to what Imus said is baseless.
“Dave Chappelle can do a skit on “the Nigger family”; and Imus can say ‘nappy-headed ho’s’.”
For this comment,i’ll simply ask you:What is the difference between Dave Chappelle’s SKIT and Imus’s racist comment? If you can’t find a difference, then I overestimated you.
“These girls should take this as a fly on their shoulder”
Your comparisons are, honestly, laughable. You’re comparing what Imus said to those girls to an insect?Do you honestly believe that anyone with half a brain will ignore this issue?Ask yourself, why is a male(Me),even debating this issue?I’m not female,I don’t know either one of those girls and I may never meet them, but why am I here debating with you?
“but Don Imus?? Imus?? Come on.”
Wait, you think Imus isn’t popular?Do you know that his show has millions of listeners?I hope you know this.
We’ll never agree on this issue, and I can understand why you believe his racist comments shouldn’t be such a major topic. But the fact of the matter is,it is,and it isn’t going anywhere for the time being.

Columnist Mike Barnicle gives his take on the comments made by Imus regarding the Rutgers Women’s basketball team:
Mike Barnicle: “You know Don, watching that press conference yesterday with the Rutgers woman’s basketball team, it struck me that we were watching, those of us who were watching, we’re watching the varsity of life, we weren’t watching just a varsity basketball team, these young women represent the varsity of life. I have been in the news business for four decades, I am an older white guy, I’m your age, I’m Chuck’s age, more often than not I put on a suit of cynicism because of the business I’m in. I think at heart I am an optimist, I’m a Catholic, and I view this, especially after yesterday’s press conference, is God telling us, telling you specifically in this case, as we stand on the 18th green, we can see the clubhouse off in the distance, we know this is the final round for us, that God is coming up to you in this case and he said Don, how would you like the opportunity at this stage in your life to become a better person? And he’s giving you that opportunity, and these young women are giving you that opportunity and in a sense they are giving us all that opportunity Don, because one of the great things, disgraceful things about this country, is that we continually neglect to have a discussion about race in America. You can go through all the political statements and press releases issued by every candidate running for president and they very rarely talk about race, the dilemma, the gulf of race in this country and we ought to talk about it more. We ought to put it on the table and discuss the huge discrepancy, the vast discrepancies in this life. I was thinking about it–I’ve been thinking about it for several days now, in the wake of what has happened here, especially reflecting upon the tsunami of hypocrisy that surrounds you and this issue, and it’s a national issue because of who you are and the fact that you broadcast from New York, the media capital of the world and you have all sorts of media people, people much more luminous than I on your program, on TV and radio, and that is part of the reason that it’s so big. But fifteen, sixteen years ago not only in Boston and other cities in this country there was a crack epidemic and the explosion of crack, the drug gave young kids, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen years of age the ability to become freelance gangsters. They no longer had to get their product from other people, other richer peoples, mob peoples, they could do it themselves and they started killing themselves. I can remember during the summers of 1992 and 1993 I think three times a week in the Boston Globe for either both summers or one summer I wrote nearly every column from June through September about the number of black men getting killed in the streets of the city of Boston. About halfway through that summer people of good heart and good intentions would come up to me and say hey, Johnny one note, lay off of us huh? Write something about the Red Sox would yah? Get off of that. It’s too dreary. It’s too dreary a topic and it is a dreary topic. And it’s a dreary topic in our public schools that are so geared against people of color, so geared against people of less income than we make, so geared against people who have no clout, so geared against people who can’t call, never mind the school principal about the lousy education their kids are getting, they can’t even call the teacher, so geared against people who come from fractured home lives, so this could be a great learning experience, I know it has been for you already because I know you. But it can be a magnificent ongoing learning experience for the country. I am sure that when Al Sharpton lit up New York City over race with Tawana Brawley he learned something from it and became a better person. I am sure that Jesse Jackson when he referred to everyone living in New York City as living in “hymie town”, I’m sure he learned something from it and became a better person as I am sure Don that you are going to become a better person and have become a better person in the space of a week and so I’m optimistic.”

Perfect Dark,Read “Ya Boi”’s comment, and then realize what you’re saying when you claim there’s a double standard.

“I wont even bother anymore,if you still think this issue is insignificant, then what’s the point?”
- The point is just healthy debate- expanding each others minds through discourse. Nothing more or less.
“So racism isn’t true,it’s fiction?Do you think that because those girls are not whores, that calling them so wont have any effect on them?”
-No, I am saying to you that my mother is not a “red light district slut”. So honestly, that remark would not bother me at all. That’s what is “fictitious” about Imus’ remark…it is in fact…FICTION. Not fiction like “it didn’t happen”; fiction in the sense that they are not- in any way- “nappy headed ho’s”.
“Claiming that what Imus said was a blunder is ignorance…Why is he apologizing if he can say whatever he wants”
- Again, attacking my intellect. The definition of a blunder is a careless mistake. Everybody has recognized what Imus said as careless. He has said, and I quote “It was completely inappropriate…insensitive and ill-conceived…Our characterization was thoughtless and stupid, and we are sorry”. He apologized because he was pressured by the media and people like you who flipped out over what he said. You continue to call my assertions ignorant, but you can’t truly believe that. Just because he apologized doesn’t mean it wasn’t a blunder. In fact, it means it WAS.
“You’re telling me that it’s offensive because they applied white makeup inorder to have a better story?”
-YES! Just like black-face is offensive, painting yourself and dressing like white women is offensive. You continue to defend the Wayans Bros and it’s truly astounding. Why are you defending “White Chicks”? It’s an offensive movie and you know it. And don’t belittle my intelligence by making my statement a broad-brush for the ENTIRE movie business. I am not an imbecile. I know that actors act…that’s not the point I was making and you know that. How is it “baseless” to compare controversial entertainment to controversial entertainment? You know “White Chicks” is offensive but you keep trying to cover it up with these broad strokes and questions.
“What is the difference between Dave Chappelle’s SKIT and Imus’s racist comment? If you can’t find a difference, then I overestimated you.”
-Oh, I’ll tell you with brevity. 3 words vs. 3 Seasons.
“Your comparisons are, honestly, laughable. You’re comparing what Imus said to those girls to an insect?”
-Again, you can continue to attack my intellect, but you know exactly my point. Insects are seemingly insignificant insects. Imus’ words are insignificant words and should be treated like insects and disregarded just as easily. And you knew full well what I meant by that.
“Wait, you think Imus isn’t popular?Do you know that his show has millions of listeners?”
-Of course I know this. Snoop Dogg has millions of fans but I don’t take him seriously. In fact, if Snoop came on the air right now and said “pale-faced honkey’s”, I doubt you would even give him the time of day. You know why? Snoop should not and never be held with that height of respect; neither should Imus.
Obviously we disagree. You have the right to attack my intellect (as you have been doing, and as I have refrained from doing to you), and I have the right to debate with you, but we both know that **these are mearly words**. When it’s all said and done, people will realize what Imus said are just words.

All I’m sayin is what Imus said was idiotic he lost his job like he deserved lets just put this negative behind us i feel them girls they go to college work hard they are obviously the opposite of what Imus called them. I would laugh my white ass off if snoop said that about honkeys but they writing his check there smarter maybe if Imus had a black boss he would watch what he sais maybe u shud be focusing on this as a major reason why there needs to be more diversity in the workplace

snoop said that about honkeys but they writing his check there smarter…….my bad that was a typo homies i dont think white people are smarter lol i meant Snoop is smarter becuz he doesnt say bullshit like Imus he juss make moneyy

Short reply to Perfect Dark,a longer one will be made tomorrow:
“What is the difference between Dave Chappelle’s SKIT and Imus’s racist comment? If you can’t find a difference, then I overestimated you.”
-Oh, I’ll tell you with brevity. 3 words vs. 3 Seasons.”
Do you know the difference in this ^ ?Are they both fiction,as you claim? Was Imus in front of an audience who were there for a laugh?Ask yourself that.
““Your comparisons are, honestly, laughable. You’re comparing what Imus said to those girls to an insect?”
-Again, you can continue to attack my intellect, but you know exactly my point. Insects are seemingly insignificant insects. Imus’ words are insignificant words and should be treated like insects and disregarded just as easily. And you knew full well what I meant by that.”
Yeah, racism is insignificant,Martin Luther King was just a fly on white people’s shoulders, right?I wonder, did you click those links I posted?
“You’re telling me that it’s offensive because they applied white makeup in order to have a better story?”
-YES! Just like black-face is offensive, painting yourself and dressing like white women is offensive.”
You seem to be ignoring a very simple fact:White Chicks is a movie.A comedy movie.A fiction.A work of art with no whatsoever truth to it.Think about this for a second, before you try to defend your false statements.
“Wait, you think Imus isn’t popular?Do you know that his show has millions of listeners?”
-Of course I know this. Snoop Dogg has millions of fans but I don’t take him seriously. In fact, if Snoop came on the air right now and said “pale-faced honkey’s”, I doubt you would even give him the time of day.”
You think I wouldnt care if Snoop uttered those words? You have an image of me,you think i’m simply defending the girls because most of them are black.Sorry to disappoint you, this is not the case. When Isaiah called that other man a “faggot”,I not only wanted him to apologize,I wanted him to be taught a lesson.I’m not a homosexual, yet I chose to defend one.Why is that?
“Claiming that what Imus said was a blunder is ignorance…Why is he apologizing if he can say whatever he wants”
- Again, attacking my intellect. The definition of a blunder is a careless mistake. Everybody has recognized what Imus said as careless”
Ask yourself why I say it is ignorant to think so before you assume i’m attacking your intellect. Why didn’t he apologize on the spot if it was a careless mistake? Why did he laugh instead of halt after he had said those racist comments? You and I both know the answers to these questions.
“Obviously we disagree. You have the right to attack my intellect (as you have been doing, and as I have refrained from doing to you), and I have the right to debate with you, but we both know that **these are mearly words**. When it’s all said and done, people will realize what Imus said are just words.”
No,I haven’t been attacking your intellect,I have been questioning your brow raising comments. We’ll never agree nor do I expect us to reach an agreement after 5/50 more responses. We simply have a very different view on the matter.
I’ve never and will never take racism as just words, and quite frankly, neither should you.
