Jay-Z Dropping A Verse On Amy Winehouse, “Rehab,” Remix
He recently had a verse on some new songs by Ne-Yo & Rihanna. He is now planning to drop some lines on a remix to Amy Winehouse’s song, “Rehab.”
Rapper SHAWN ‘JAY-Z’ CARTER has reportedly given AMY WINEHOUSE’s song REHAB a hip-hop makeover to help the British soul star break into the mainstream American market.
The Def Jam president is said to be a big fan of Winehouse’s sultry vocals, and has remixed her single Rehab to make it appeal to a wider audience.
A source says, “Jay-Z told Amy he had some great ideas and when he called her back a few weeks later, she couldn’t believe it.” Winehouse, who is nominated for the 2007 Ivor Novello songwriting awards, has already experienced some success in the US with her sophomore album Back To Black entering the Billboard charts at number seven earlier this year (07).
You could of made an apperance on Redman or The Roots’ album, I’m just saying. But yea like I said before, R&B is moving records right now, so it only makes sense.

so uh… rnb sells. he knows what hes doing
either hes taking advantage of the rnb salesor hes just setting a mark for the new generation of music

He knows who needs his presence in order to shine and who he might be taking shine away from if he hopped on. Jay-z going on a Roots track might be taking away from where they initially intended on going which would result in ppl just downloading that one track they had featured Jayz on and not taking into consideration the album as a whole. This same thing applies to Redman. Amy on the other hand needs Jayz’s shine to get introduced into the US market. Come on man he knows what he’s doing no need to question his movements.
Rihanna is on some kind of HUGE role. And with the new video she actually looks like they gave her a budget to work with… HOV had to jump on, he made her and he’s enjoying her success and celebrating it.

Amy doesn’t need Jay’s help. This is purely for Jay’s purposes. Everyone knows Amy’s that bitch. Good music sells it self. See Robin Thicke’s success as well as Lyfe Jennings. LOL @ mainstream American market. That’s industry talk for Urban radio. The girl’s already got soul.
And as for your side comment about Roots & Redman, those are artists who’ve been here for yeeeaaars who already have a fan base. There will be no picking up new ones in this MTV microwavable times we live in.
April 24th, 2007 at 3:20 am
If your comments are true (since you see this in a narrow-minded way i.e. Jayz’s purposes)… artists like The Roots and Redman would have no need to put out new music. If they already have a fan base and are not searching to inspire a new breed of ppl, what is the point in putting out new music?
We need artists that have power and have succeeded in one way or another to boost the newer ones. Before Pharrell stepped up to the plate and got cracking on Robin Thicke… where was Robin? He was still an AMAZING artist and had success with his first single (somewhat) but was nowhere NEAR platinum status. Amy is that bitch but not in the US. I don’t see that by Jay jumping on this track it is for his purposes:S What kind of barrier would he be breaking by jumping on this track that he hasn’t done already? I think he really felt her music and jumped on the track cause he was feeling it and also along the way whether it be intentionally or unintentionally helped her in the US market. I bet 80% of the ppl who read this don’t even know who she is. That 1more percent of recognition always helps.
April 24th, 2007 at 3:33 am
I apologize for using the term “bitch”… she is that GIRL.
April 24th, 2007 at 4:34 am
jay just moves where the money’s at. but i definitely wouldn’t mind hearing him collab with other rappers
April 24th, 2007 at 4:46 am
That’s a silly question. Because the fans want it.
Maybe Amy’s music isn’t for the 80 percent of the people who come here.(no offense RTNY lol) Though she’s new in the US, she’s already making a big buzz without a Jay-z. Like I said, good music sales itself. However, I retract my statement of Jay-z jumping on to benefit Jay-z. “Rehab” can make it on its own on top 40 stations. The purpose was to get Amy on Urban radio since she’s a chick with an old sounding soul. And what better way to market to urban radio then to get the HNIC.
It’s all good but I just dont like the thought of Jay on the track. It ruins something. I’m afraid that it’ll turn too commerical and take away from Amy’s rawness.
April 24th, 2007 at 4:59 am
^^^ Most definitely agree that it will take away from the rawness.
April 24th, 2007 at 8:36 am
why would jay-z do anything with or for redman? it would be pointless, red is trash and will never sell, not eeven jay could help him.
April 24th, 2007 at 8:45 am
“Red is trash”
You haven’t listened to his albums I presume…Redman is probably one of the few rappers that can be themselves on the mic,and on tv,how many of these rappers in the game be talking about “We street we don’t f*** with corporate!” then the next thing you know they at the Grammy’s in a $6000 suit?

MAN…………..WHERE THE HELL IS JOE BUDDENS ALBUM
April 24th, 2007 at 9:45 am
#3 wut are u talkin bout, lyfe jennings is only known in BET circles, he hasnt broken through at all. it took robin thicke like 5 yrs 2 finally get sum shine and hes finally starting 2 breaththrough (thicke’s 1st album came out 4 yrs ago). if jay or 50 hopped on a robin thicke song 3-4 yrs ago, thicke would’ve been HUGE by now. HOVA knows wut hes doin, u think black ppl honestly know who amy winehouse is?? NOOO. w/ HOVA on her track she’ll get a lot more attention in the states cuz shes gettin pretty HUGE everywhere else, think homie think
April 24th, 2007 at 10:16 am
This is the perfect time for RnB to make a resurgence because people are openly getting fed up with what is popular in hip-hop today. Jay knows this. RnB is on the comeback, and I’m excited…
April 24th, 2007 at 10:45 am
No. You mean teeny bopping teens dont know who Amy is since they’re the ones listening to the crap on hip hop radio stations. Black people into REAL music know who the hell she is.
My point about Lyfe isn’t about breaking thru, its about GOOD music selling itself.
April 24th, 2007 at 11:17 am
Anon, i guarantee u more teeny bopper white kids know who amy winehouse is then black kids. i think lyfe jennings makes great music, just like anthony hamilton but theyll never be huge, they dont even get play on BET that much, VH1 is the channel that plays great music from all genres, they go from anthony hamilton, snow patrol, 2 lyfe jennings, coldplay and so on n so forth but at the end of the day this is gonna be a HUGE boost in amy winehouse’s career cuz she’s already huge ’round da globe and when she breaks through here (on TRL n shit lol) she’ll be a talented version of madonna, i jus hope she can leave the crack n alcohol alone
April 24th, 2007 at 12:22 pm

April 24th, 2007 at 12:46 pm
I wont lie, i like Jay’s music, but after track one on kingdom come i wasnt really feeling. I just hit 30 a couple weeks back so im gonna listen again. But track one i could listen to over and over.
He’s still what’s happening though.
April 24th, 2007 at 8:28 pm
^yeah track one was the hottest track on there to me too. did anybody hear the ghostface and amy winehouse track on “more fish”? that shit was mad hot. jay should come out wit a video for that so that it would sell more than 80,000, instead of doing a song with her himself. smh @ the nigga who said redman was trash
“show up on camera wit a wifebeater with a picture of me beatin my wife ass ironed on” – redman
“sweat dropped on our daughers from the white mans head/
as she cried givin white man head”- ghostface
just listened to “The W” today. classic
April 25th, 2007 at 10:00 am
the amy winehouse shit is fire. doesnt matter if its rnb or rap, its original music. i respect jay for getting on it and nobody can diss him for getting down with good music. only just remember, ghostface was on this chick first. holla
April 27th, 2007 at 7:22 am
I think Amy is hot and I LOVE S-Dot. Not only that let’s think about it, what does the man always say, “I’M A HUSTLER” so it is only natural that he is going where the money is. Lastly, he’s big enough to do it, he’s that thorough, and the man’s flow is foolish.
