I am white and I am really starting to get angered by these adults who cannot evolve into a changing world. Sure, some artists may have sketchy lyrics, but I cannot believe that some talking head at Fox News made the jump from sketchy lyrics and their questionable influence to hip-hop ruining children. Surely borrowing $4.9 trillion to privatize and ruin Social Security for those who need it most is a better option than playing 50 Cent on the radio(no beef).

I completely agree with the response above me. I think that our country has adopted a “it’s them, not me” mentality meaning that it couldn’t be me as a parent so it has to be someone elses fault that junior can’t read or write. It really bothers me that our news organizations take this type of stance rather than focus on how we can be better fathers and mothers to kids who are growing up with all types of messages and images that are not good for them. Hey I grew up with N.W.A. and Salt-N-Pepper singing “Push It” but I didn’t join a gang or have a baby at 15. Let’s smarten up as a general public and learn to place the blame where it belongs, on the parents!

What it all comes down to is the parents. We as a society need to stop blaming the hip hop industry or the entertainment industry all together. If you see little kids smoking weed or dressing like Juelz Santana don’t place the blame on rap music/videos. Its the parents, who are buying these clothes? Who are buying these cds? Who are letting their children see these video or listen to this music? The answer is the parents, we need to stop acting like its the entertainment industry responsibiliy to raise our children. I’m sure rappers didn’t give those kids weed. Think about it.

Of course there are ills to hiphop, much like the controversy over some rock and roll music way back that was purely about doing drugs. I think its ridiculous to start blaming hip hop for this. Would they blame hip hop if the kids were white? Such bullshit to just assume that they were influenced by Hip Hop because they are black. They blame music, as if all hip hop is one tier and preaches the same message to kids? If your kids can’t handle listening to music and making their own intelligent decisions, maybe they are two immature for music with questionable lyrics. And so what if hip hop “made it cool” to smoke weed, that’s not an excuse for someone to do something as stupid as that.. it’s music it ain’t your mom. It’s like blaming hip hop for misogyny in our society, is hip hop really the creator of un fair treatment of women? Women didn’t have a lot of rights before hip hop ever rolled around to influence anything.. When is the last time Faux news, or any news focused on the good qualities of Hip Hop?

I ain’t tryna get my Bill Cosby talk on, but this has NOTHING to do with HIPHOP. The reason for the kids smoking weed was due to BAD PARENTING! Until Corporate America and Media outlets show examples and the importance of family and good parenting, this crap is going to continue, and get worse.

Britney Spears’ spazzin out is another result of bad parenting. Where are her parents? Where’s Bobby Brown’s parents? Parents…be present. Present parents…be good parents. I’m done.
