i don’t think the author of this post is referencing how long these chicks have been in the game #1. i’ve heard that amy winehouse has known a little fame internationally before. what i hope was being refenced is the fact that these chicks are white, burnin up the pop r&b game, and there aren’t too many back pop r&b chicks- save for the almighty beyonce- gving them any kind of run for their money. or at least, there aren’t any recieving the kinds of press these chicks are seein’. for the record, i’m a fan of both ms. winehouse and ms. mcphee (joss can go suck a big fat one for all i care), i’m just (hopoefully) restating facts…
The reason why these young ladies are getting the attention is very simple MONEY. They have an audience that buys records period. IF you think other artists are better BUY their albums . The music business is bout dollars and cents and not necessarily sense. On Amy Winehouse’s album the music is great but she clearly studied the devil out of Lauryn Hill and even went to Lauryn’s producer for a track. Joss Stone studied under Betty Wright and worked with Roots/ McPhee is not singing R&B, and if someone thinks so she will only do it long enough to get a following, if she does not succeed she will move on to something else like her idol mate Kelly Clarkson. Why because it is about money, if the label makes money the artist continues if not they are repackaged and if they fail again they are dropped. If you think an artist is not worth it. pay them no mind and pay mind to those whom you care about. R&B is all about feeling, feeling that is attributed to the music, the true talent of an artist and how the two honestly jell. Many people just pimpin the style, if its not givin you goose bumps or stoppin you in your tracks then its not R&B. No matter how you dress it up.
