RAKIM WAS DEFINATELY BEFORE HIS TIME. HIS LYRICS ARE STILL GOOD BUT HIS FLOW IS ANTIQUATED. HE NEEDS TO CHANGE HIS CADENCE/FLOW. HE SOUNDS TOO OLD SCHOOL. SOMETIMES U GOTTA DRESS IT UP TO GET THE YOUTH AN EXAMPLE IS KIRK FRANKLIN’S STYLE OF POP GOSPEL. RAKIM IS NOT THE NUMBER 1 OF ALL TIME BECAUSE HIS LEGACY DID NOT AFFORD HIM THE ABILITY TO CHANGE POP CULTURE AND OPEN DOORS THAT NEVER WERE IMAGINED. SOME PEOPE STILL DEBATE THAT KANE IS BETTER BECAUSE HE COUD MOVE THE CROWD BETTER AND HE ENCOMPASSED VARIOUS ATTRIBUTES OF HIP HOP SUCH AS DANCING. DANCING WAS SOMETHING THAT RAKIM WOULD NEVER DO. THAT ALONE MADE KANE MORE OF A HIP HOP ARTIST THAN RAKIM. IF YOU WANT TO CREDIT ANYTHING TO RAKIM, CREDIT THE I’M TOO KOOL AND TUFF TO DANCE WALLFLOWERS TO HIM. THE ONLY LEGACY THAT HE HAS ARE HIS LYRICS. JAY IS NUMBER ONE BECAUSE HE INFLUENCED HIP HOP CULTURE TO THE FULLIEST. HE TOLD YOU TO DANCE/BOUNCE, TO DRESSA CERTAIN WAY, HE FREESTYLED (SOMETHING RAKIM NEVER DID). RAKIM WROTE HIS SONGS AND WROTE THEM IN A LOGICAL MANNER IN SENTENCE FORM WHERE EVERY 3RD WORD WOULD RHYME IN EACH SENTENCE AND THEN HE LATER CHANGED IT TO DIFFERENT PATTERNS. THAT’S AN UNNATURAL FLOW BECAUSE YOU ARE PLANNING IT INSTEAD OF JUST LETTING IT FLOW. IT’S PREDICTABLE. I LIKE TO FOLLOW THE EVER CHANGING FLOW. RAKIM JUST RECENTLY STARTED SOUNDING OK IN CONCERT. I don’t know how yo could say that about Ra. When you talking about him changing “CADENCE/FLOW” and “U GOTTA DRESS IT UP” this is why Nas says Hip Hop is Dead. “Everyone commercialize the game”. The God never sold his soul to be commercial. Nas is a reborn Rakim. Jay is a reborn Daddy Kane. Ra started the “knowledge self conscious rap”. Kane started that real “gangsta rap”. Jay is not number one. Honestly no one is number anything. Hip Hop is number one. The people who killed it is not the artist it is the record companies, “Hip Hop been dead we the reason it died, its not sylvia’s fault or cause MC skills is lost is cause we can’t see ourselves as a boss, deep routed through slavery, self hatred, the Jewish stand together friends in high places, we on some low level shi* we don’t want ni**az to ever win”…. Peace God; I was just listening to Rakims, “Mystery (Who is God)” off of the 18th Letter Album. If some cannot understand the supreme mathamatics and works of the universe they cannot relate to much of what you and I said.
By the way one thing I just remember about Ra; he never spoke violence drugs, sex, or even ever used the suppose most controversial “N” word. Never used it once in his career. Thats ill!

Now i do believe Jay-Z is up there. He’s in my top 5. Reason being Jiggaman has had good songs and has a lot of influence in hip-hop. he’s had variation in the type of songs he’s done. he is also at his peak in career. he’s made it financially without a doubt. nas and rakim hasn’t come close to that. but also it deals with how much you sell out to making that out. not to disrespect jay-z or anyone but there is always going to be what you do for you and what you do for them. rakim is #1 on my list for keeping it real. you don’t have to dance or do this or that and sell records to impress people. rakim came from the streets and he spoke for the streets and stayed true to himself. although people might bring up he sold out for performing at the g-unit rip the runway show. i bet you a million dollars if 50 cent offered you that position you would take it. why? because you’re trying to sell yourself for exposure and why not take in a little extra money performing what you know and love. rakim is #1. i don’t really need to go in any further detail on why. let me be brief.
